Phil just had the ultimate stereotypical mister nice guy look. Not that he can help it though. But you wouldn't picture him standing in front of a night club or something.
Great musician, just like the other Genesis members.
This may be THE BEST interview they ever did !! Superb ,thanks !! Can you imagine all members of Genesis (past and present) composing a track with each one playing "Drum Boxes" ; I'd buy it !!!
all the albums from before Steve Hackett left are my favorite compared to after he left. But that wasn't Phil Collins' fault I think, cause Tony and Mike continued to write a lot of those songs.
anything genesis did after abacab was essentially a phil collins album.. the other two were riding the phil collins gravy train after abacab. tony banks said as much when they announced in '96 that Phil was leaving the group, "no one would have blamed him [Phil] for leaving after the success of his first solo album. we're fortunate that he stayed for as long as he did".. i dont have a source for that quote, but if you google it, i'm sure you will find it.
@kamwrites Totally agree with you. Some self-titled "fans" keep blaming Phil for the fact that Peter left.
If they don't like Phil as a singer and/or songwriter then they should just not listen to him instead of talking bad about him. People tend to care more about who they don't like than about who they like. That's so sad!
The interviewer is Hugh Fielder, who wrote a book called The Book of Genesis around this time. He was a music journalist. This interview is from the Three Sides Live video but I'm not sure if that was what it was initially done for, it looked rather clumsily incorporated into that.
Yeah. I, for one, like ABACAB. That, and the Genesis albums after, got me into Genesis. I was born in '82. We Can't Dance is the only one I don't like. The '70-'75 Genesis box set is 3 1/2 weeks away.

I love Peter and Steve but Genesis improved with their departures.

@TheDensley7 Comforting, isn't it? I just think Duke is the last Genesis album even worth listening too.

@JohnyVirgil Abacab, Genesis, Invisible Touch and We Can't Dance are all great. Calling All Stations, on the other hand, is terrible.

Phil - "We're not one particular thing." Too bad fans can't take this comment to heart and stop arguing about which "era ruined Genesis".

Bad era for Genesis.

They each look like they are in their mid 40's as opposed to 3 guys who just turned 30.
