  • @nikkibic I Feel so happy that you can hear again :), How was it to be deaf and how is it now u can hear things? now u can hear the guys whistle @ you :P you are cute :). Any favorite number you are listening at the moment and that you would share with me? :) I Am so happy FOR YOU! <3

  • @cobralientje It was very frustrating being deaf as it was hard to join in on conversations, or I would feel like a pain in the butt by getting people to repeat themselves all the time. It is awesome hearing now, I have a lot more confidence :) I am really loving "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele at the moment :)

  • @nikkibic u should...

  • @nikkibic

    Listen to The Beatles.

  • @danutcase66 Love the Beatles :)

  • @nikkibic

    Favourite song of theirs?

It is such an interesting thing, for a person to experience sound for the first time and music.

Here's a question, when you heard music for the first time, could you instinctively understand particular emotions being conveyed through certain chords and sounds in the songs? Like if you listened to A Day in the Life by The Beatles. What do you make of that?

  • @danutcase66 It wasn't hearing for the first time, I was late deafened. I could always listen to music, the CI just makes it a lot better :) So I could understand the emotions before :)

  • @nikkibic lol, best comment ive ever read on yt, congrats btw!!

  • @ramin85 die.

  • @ramin85 You're the plague of humanity.

  • @spaniardmale77 bach´s chello suite.

  • @liquidbokii88 Prelude and Moonlight yep. Moonlight is great bc of its emotional resonance with its sublime simplicity, dedication of love, & Beethovens life: Consider that the greatest composer of music on our planet suffered with hearing loss, even while composing some of his greatest works...and went completely deaf.

  • @spaniardmale77 YOUR A DAMN LIE!! She needs to listen to some Marvin Gaye Barry White some al green big mama thornton rick james p funk REAL MUSIC WITH SOUL!! lmao at beethoven gtfoh

  • @PharaohII LOL. I like marvin, al green. BUT they are derivatives. Beethoven fundamentally helped change music. From great classical expression to a more romantic or emotional expression. The emotional resonance u get from Marvin, Al Green, etc are derived from the paradigm shift he helped with his great genius, and deep emotional passion. Melody, harmony to express emotional human truths. Next time u listen to Marvin, Al, give thanks to Beethoven & moonlight sonata.

  • @spaniardmale77 Whatever you cannot dance to beethoven you cannot make love to beethoven so beethoven to the " REAL " world is irrelevant and always will be. Till the day i see someone being able to pop lock to Beethoven is the day i say he is.. Till then he just played non-sense.

  • @spaniardmale77 and one other thing I PROMISE YOU even Beethoven had not existed I PROMISE YOU BLUES WOULD STILL BE HERE!! It has a long line that stretches back to the home land.

  • @PharaohII True that. BUT I promise AND guarantee YOU, had Beethoven had not existed some of ur fav songs might be different. Since he threw a hard rock into the human musical ocean that has send ripples across ALL genres of music including blues. Since even in "home land" christian, religious church music(classically influences),gospel music, hymns are influences of blues. Blues doesn't exist in an independent vacuum in an isolated line since ALL music comes from hearing & emotional expression.

  • @spaniardmale77 Fugue in A minor by Bach

  • I dont understand why all the people in these videos can speak so well and have no type of lysp, Im veryy happy for you but can someone please tell me why all of these "deaf people" can speak so well?

  • @elkpointscanner I personally am late-deafened, but a lot of people still use what hearing they have with hearing aids. My speech had apparently deteriorated a little, but the CI has improved that again :)

  • @elkpointscanner You have a voice in your mind dont you matter of fact im using mine right now xD i hope this answers your question

  • @elkpointscanner Lip reading, speech recognitiion. The deaf do alot of this type of learning. The deaf that I know want to talk, very badly. But they know it does'nt sound right. Think of learning a new language. You know the words, but not the accents and such. Know what I mean?

  • Congratulations- that's so awesome. Stuff like this makes me happy to be a part of the world today.

  • para voce que tem cabelo enrolado vai ai uma dica de como o cabelo fica liso naturalmente

  • @SimplesBeleza Obrigado!

  • We spend 55 seconds for a reaction and only get 5 seconds of the end results. I was hoping to hear (no pun intended) more on what she thought about the experience.

  • @MadWorldDesigns There is a link to my blog, I've written an entry on how I felt and what it was like (go back to the 10.Feb.06). There is also a second video in my list of how I describe it :)

  • @nikkibic Are you the lady in the video? I will go check that out. I was really heart felt when I saw your first reaction to being able to hear and the video cut so short. Glad to know I can learn more about the story.

  • @MadWorldDesigns Yes, it is me in the vid and I've kept the blog updated and explained how things are today, 5 years on :)

  • Hello sweetie :o)

What exactly happens at the point where you start crying? Did you hear and understand the lady for the first time?

(I am sorry for not Reading through All the comments for the answar)

Happy to see your video :o)

All the best to you and those near you!

  • @demisroussosinfo I didn't understand the lady, I started crying because the noise was so awful (just a high pitched noise). I describe it more in the second video in my list, where I got used to it and am a lot happier ;) Took about 2 weeks to understand speech properly as the brain has to learn how to interpret sounds :)

  • such a beautiful reaction i started crying myself.

  • you can tell she's deaf by her speech impediment . . . oh never mind, she's just British. lmao. seriously though, congrats. and you are extremely beautiful.. I'm happy for you.

  • @urmombentover I'm Australian not British!!! LOL

  • @nikkibic what's the difference? Lol I am kidding. I realized you were Australian shortly after I made my stupid comment

  • fake

  • @patricktecher Troll

  • Howdy, I was born deaf but you can rest assured I am not out to disparage you and I apologize for the behavior of certain individuals here. However, I am trying to understand the difference between your hearing and the cochlear implant. Can you explain the subtle differences? Do you hear everything like sand falling on floors? Is the dB loss fully restored? You're in an ideal position to explain the difference and I want to explain the same to parents of deaf toddlers who qualify for implants.

  • @wiggums1 Thankyou wiggims, nice to meet other open minded people :) I will send you a private message as my reply is too long for the comment box!!

  • your reaction was perfect.A lot of people take the simple things in life for granted, but this is quite a highlight for humanity.

  • @pinoy929 I hope it makes people appreciate the small sounds :)

  • @pinoy929 I hope it makes people appreciate the small sounds :)

  • pretty soon these implants will be as good as those on the Bionic Woman where you'll be able to hear people's conversations a mile away

  • @gamersteve86 That would be so awesome, can't wait for that day!!

  • human disapoints me most of the time, but sometimes I see how wonderful man can be in the sense of research. I am soooo extremely happy for you, I got tears in my eyes :)

Cant really express how happy this makes me. Best of luck to you!

  • @nenita77 Thank you very much, glad it's restored your faith a bit!

  • ok i have a question, and i hope this doesn't sound stupid to the public, but because i'm totally ignorant to this field of study how is she able to speak if she's never heard sound?.. or is it she could always hear just chooppY? can someone explain it to me because im really interested, i have watched about eight or nine of these videos who heared themselves talk for the first time and it was really touching.

  • @cradlemaster1 I was late deafened at the age of 18, so I have always been able to talk and remember what hearing used to be like.

  • @nikkibic how did you become deaf at age 18 ?

  • @RPJunky The Dr's didn't know, it just gradually deteriorated over a few years

  • @nikkibic but what caused it to disappear ? cancer in the ear ? did the inner ear nones harden up or what caused it if you dont mind sharing ?

  • @RPJunky The dr's don't know, it's called idiopathic loss, which means no known cause.

  • @cradlemaster1 some people who have been deaf their entire lives are able to speak, possibly with no noticeable impairment, through speech therapy. It takes years of work, but they are able to learn how to form words and sounds through muscle memory and a specialized therapist helping them through the proper techniques. This treatment has come a LONG way in recent years, but I hope these implants make it obsolete.

  • Yea all these deaf chicks are pretty cute.

  • your hot

  • She's crying because she hated the noise: "Then everyone is trying to talk to me and its so weird and I said "it sounds like aliens!" and just burst into tears (just like i predicted). Mum and dad got all teary too, I think they thought I was happy-crying because there was sound but it was bloody awful."

  • @Dllshockk It's ok, it's absolutely wonderful now :)

  • @kalijasin People like you just say shit like this to start fights. Back off, saying stuff like that is really offensive and just plain rude. Hitler didn't kill those people because he was trying to give their societies another chance, he did it for completely other reasons. There is NOTHING wrong with trying to give someone a chance to have at least SOME of the life they once had. Grow up, your ignorance is childish

  • @nickkid218 You should have seen the comments I deleted!! I blocked him, he's a troll

  • Comment removed

  • Its the same kind of shIt Hitler did. Only difference is it uses technology rather than Murder.

  • @kalijasin WHAT.

  • @kalijasin haha what?

  • Cochlear Implanting is an attempt to eradicate Deaf people from society.

  • @kalijasin cochlear implanting is an attempt to eradicate *deafness* from *people*. a deaf person that gets cochlear implants is still a person, just a person who can communicate with people more and enjoy life more.

  • @kalijasin gosh i hope your a troll lol. if a troll, well done 10/10. if serious... hoo man i feel bad for your offspring.

  • @nikkibic

Don't let her bother you. She's trolling more than one such comment board (easily found on her channel) like a religious tyrant flying planes into hearing buildings. Just a heap of intolerant anger.

Don't give her the time of day.

It's sad that deaf culture fosters this sort of attitude. It might have been useful at one time, but the sun is setting on it. There will come a day when nobody's sensory organs will be inoperable. We're only beginning.

    Oh, and congratulations. ;)

  • @TheJediCharles Thank you ;)

  • @nikkibic

Oh, and your video is very moving. It's curious though, that when I see "the moment" for you, it triggers an emotional reaction in me that really doesn't deal much with actual hearing, or sensory. I don't know if this is a typical reaction, but to me it stirs feelings of human contact, family connection, life itself... reactions far more vast than mere hearing alone. Personally, that's what makes it so stirring to behold.

There's few videos that prompt me to cry. This is one of them.

  • @TheJediCharles This is a lovely description, I think you've described how a lot of people feel. Most people describe it as they want to give me a hug :)

    Thank you :)

  • Comment removed

  • is it weird that i want to hug her and give her a little kiss on the forehead?

  • @smokehouseflannigan I have a lot of friends who said the same thing :)

  • @nikkibic i just want to clarify that i wasn't talking about hugging and kissing the doctor, i was talking about the adorable blond girl... although i think the doctor has earned a hug and kiss too. :o)

  • @smokehouseflannigan LOL... the adorable blonde girl is me, I knew what you meant ;)

  • I think, perhaps, adults have a harder time adjusting to the implant initially....but the babies that I see on these videos that hear for the first time are instantly joyous and smile. It's a beautiful moment.

  • Do you guys think that this video has so many views just because the chick is really hot? Anyways, beautiful to see a human hear.

  • Aww this is the most beautiful technology ever!

  • I think its new technology and it needs work. The car was once a very primitive piece of transportation, now look at how far we have come. I am willing to bet in a decade or so we will have made leaps and bound in this technology.

  • @redy2rumblify I'm sure it will only get better, but it has made leaps and bounds already. The sound from the first CI is vastly different to the sound heard from today's

  • This is for Reddit... HI REDDIT :)

  • Comment removed

  • Well.... I'm in love with her!

  • @gweflj I bet your single, and haven't had sex in months

  • @jimmyPain2121 Married and the wife is a sex maniac! She's still lovely.

  • @HaliFins this is very ignorant of you. If chadberry75 is telling the truth, then you'd be acting like an ignoramus. If he's lying, so what? The truth is, deaf people are mistreated. Damn...GET A LIFE!

  • @nikkibic how were you deafened? And before the implant (during this video) were you deaf in both ears?

  • @RaidersFan2469 The Dr's don't know why I lost my hearing.

And yes, deaf in both ears. I have a hearing aid in my other ear

  • @nikkibic Thanks for the reply. That's very interesting. My Reddit accounts comments/submissions aren't showing up so I was unable to ask in your AMA.

  • Comment removed

  • ...and she's cute!

  • @RayKinStL ROFL, thx ;)

  • @nikkibic Congrats on your video blowing up! It is an awesome reaction.

  • SOMEBODY EXPLAIN WHAT THIS IS

  • @BIGGAMEPOKER Look up "cochlear implant" on wikipedia

  • the cure for internet faggotry: MANHOOD101. COM

  • One thing to say, she is very cute =)

  • Where does her Australian accent come from? Going by her blog post, she's never heard anything before, therefore she must have had an excellent vocal coach.

  • @mickjt84 I was late deafened, I had hearing up until I was 18

  • @nikkibic I guess that means one of 3 things. That either cochlear implants are not very good at reproducing sound; Or that they deliver sound in a totally different way that takes a while to get used to; Or that the brain forgets what sound, sounds like, and needs to re-learn how to process it.

Which do you think it is?

  • @mickjt84 : They deliver sound in a completely different way and the brain needs to 'learn' how to hear using the new parts. Brain plasticisty : when the brain can adapt and learn senses again

  • @nikkibic Thank you very much for sharing this moment with us.

  • @misterspiffee No worries :)

  • @Jamalje Oh your ignorance is astounding if you don't realise what a breakthrough cochlear implants are. Do some research, Troll.

  • @nikkibic Tell me, what did I say to make me sound ignorant? I just don't get why everybody watches my comment and instantly think I'm ignorant. I just don't get it, I'm not trying to say anything bad about the cochlear implants, I am TALKING ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT HATE IT, see the comments below? Some people were going back and forth about not like them. I really cannot believe this, why would I think that they aren't a breakthrough when my sister has in one herself...

  • @Jamalje Your comment wasn't clear, you made it seem you were dissing the "simple" video and ALL the comments.

  • @Jamalje Ya wtf is the matter with you. Do you have any clue how incredible this technology is? The lives that can be improved.

  • @WakeSideLife DONT YOU GET IT?! CANT YOU READ AND UNDERSTAND? I LIKE THE IMPLANT I ENDORSE IT 100% why would I hate it , when my sister has in one herself? I AM SAYING THAT JUST BECAUSE SHE PUT UP THIS VIDEO EVERYBODY IS HATING ON IT. If you can't read, it doesn't make much sense replying to something. I don't see how hard it is to understand that post.

  • @Jamalje You're comment does read rather harsh, and a lot of comments I read were about how wonderful they are. My mistake. Wishing your sister all the luck in the world!

  • @WakeSideLife It is no problem, and I'm sorry for coming down on you, but you weren't the first person to say something like that, my sister is doing great with it, she has transitioned over to Primary School, and has been getting help with a lip-reader, it is such a wonderful thing the first time she had them on, she smiled instantly, later in the next week we visited Niagra Falls, and she had that smile that grew more and more, she was however quite upset after we left >_<

  • @Jamalje haha never gonna take it personally. I'd imagine something as loud and powerful as Niagara falls would be something to witness after hearing for the first time.

  • @Jamalje I agree somewhat. When people "discover" a disability and then resultly start to prattle on about their "epiphany of the day",well to me that's a sign of ignorance and laziness.

These assholes have spammed you,and you yourself could be deaf, they don't know, they never took the time or made the effort to find out.

It must be really annoying for the deaf community to be "discovered" this way.

Let's crouch down when we talk to people in wheelchairs too.

  • i would hate 2 b hard of hearing, in today's society..ur treated like an idot and getting employment would be tough..i know ,my dad is deaf..and yet my dad's i.q. is 190..and ppl treat him like shit.. i hope this girl is not treated the same way..

  • @chadberry75 There are some very understanding employers out there that make up for the crappy ones... I've had both!

  • @chadberry75 I doubt your fathers iq is 190 and were it chances are he would be rather well educated and respected in his chosen field regardless.

  • @lostcause31 Deaf people can be shat on in the workplace no matter how educated you are. Depends if you get a decent employer or not

  • @chadberry75 I'm really sorry to hear that. My best friend is deaf in his left ear and is getting mistreated in the military...even as a Physics graduate from UCLA. I'm glad that your father raised an intelligent, caring person who understands the neglection of the deaf

  • Great video-that must've been so difficult at first, but you're so brave. Congratulations on your success w/your CI, and thanks for sharing!

  • oung lady, your vid here touches me. MY aunt and uncle were both deaf mute and they both would have been overjoyed at the prospects of sound. I appreciate your video. Thank you.

  • A grow in the Cochlear market will eventually lead to more money for research and ultimately better devices. So even if they still need some evolution, it is clear that science is behind it. I wish society focus more on this and steam cells so all these deaf people can start listening to this noisy world. I'm don't want to be the only one suffering all this noise and unneeded verbal expressions :D

  • Comment removed

  • @gamersteve86 Believe me, 2 minutes of it sounding awful to a lifetime of wonderful sound and understanding.. just a blip!! and I was warned it would sound terrible at first, brain has to adapt and learn sound again. The second video I'm laughing..

  • this video is kind of misleading - in the interview on her blog link she says she was crying because it sounded so awful

  • @gamersteve86 Hmm, it's not misleading, people just interpret it as being happy when yes, it was initially pretty terrible. It's nice that people see it as positive :)

  • @gamersteve86 Yeah, you can certainly see that her reaction is different than most people who haven't had a lot of hearing in their life. It's understandable. Interesting and exciting new sensation vs. the realization that your hearing won't ever be the way it was before. She says now though that she can't live without the implant.

Keep in mind the implants' fidelity is improving. They're doing trials right now for one that connects to the brainstem which will have unprecedented clarity.

  • @gamersteve86 Haha, good. I was about to call bullshit on this video because the experience of a cochlear implant is a mishmash of static. They're good for knowing if a car is behind you but at the current rate, experiencing language is ridiculous.

    Thanks for the research.

  • Great video, and your very beautiful.

  • I would be far more in favor of cochlear implants, especially for children, if parents raised these children to be hearing/Deaf - that it to give them the tools to have Deaf pride and to use ASL so the choice to be Deaf was not removed from them with their cochlear.

  • @Mindnap it depends on the upbringing. In a family of hearing, a child mind find it easier and less frustrating to "hear'. A child in a Deaf family will find it easier to introduce the Deaf culture. Some people also decide not to wear the implant as adults. The CI is better implanted young to get the greatest benefits out of it.

  • @Mindnap

not to be crude but who in the world would CHOOSE to be deaf????????????????????????? I think sometimes we take this "pride" thing a little to be honest

  • @Mindnap They can still take the microphone off. And, honestly, I think it's kind of silly to think that they would feel like they've been robbed of their deafness. In a sense, we all have a choice to be deaf if we really wanted it, but no ones going to choose that option, even if the alternative is only being able to hear fuzziness. ALSO, the clarity of the implants are improving dramatically as time goes on. Some day, they will be as good if not better than our natural hearing.
