Um... if you really care about this, uyou should be putting pressure on ***Petroecuador*** Ecuador's state-run oil company this is CURRENTLY DOING WORSE!
because Texaco/Chevron was the legal operator in the consortium..it was their equipment, their procedures, their policies that caused the extant pollution. Their liability is currently under question, not that of their successors. Kimerling is narrating images of the currents impacts of operations designed and carried out under T/C .
Toisabella... You write like an attorney ("extant?") Except you appear to have no understanding of oilfield operations, and your logic is faulty. Since 1977 Texaco's Ecuador operations were under under the 62.5% ownership and control of Petroecuador. Again, where's the Petroecuador liability?
Furthermore Toisabella... As for "currents impacts" (sic) -- why has Petroecuador permitted the pollution to continue for 19 years? If you bought a house from someone, and the toilet was overflowing, would you live in the filth for 19 years? Or perhaps would you at least fix the mess and legally sort it out later?
And finally Toisabella (to keep within the Yo Tube word limits)... The fact that the govt of Ecuador and Petroecuador have permitted the local people to live next to pollution CAUSED by current Petroecuador operations is abhorrent. It has nothing to do with Texaco at this stage. It REALLY has nothing to do with Chevron.
The whole case against Chevron is just a modern Witch Trial.
for the record, i am not an attorney but i've followed this case for 7 years now, so i have learned a few things along the way. in any case, "extant" is not a legal term - it's a plain old English word that means "currently existing."
anyway, i am absolutely NOT saying that PE - and the mess of other companies that have operated in Ecuador over the last 3+ decades - shouldn't be held responsible for the damages they've directly caused. but, the current suit was filed against C/T only, so those other companies' liability can't be a part of this trial. holding them responsible would require a new lawsuit. also, the legal operator (C/T) - not the majority owner (PE) - of the consortium is the one that bears the liability here.
Well, I'm glad you're NOT a lawyer... the world has too many attorneys IMHO. I'm also glad you think other oil companies ought to be liable... although I haven't heard of the Govt of Ecuador or the Amazon Defense Coalition etc suing those other players. It's easier just to pin it all on Chevron, right? And give a few US attorneys a huge payday...
I've been following this case, too. It's a hit job masquerading as "legal process." $27 billion? Ridiculous.
i disagree with your opinion that the estimate for remediation / health costs is too high. on the other hand, if this trial outcome is favorable, it might set a precedent (which does not currently exist) for holding the other companies responsible for the impacts of their business practices. personally, i don't care about the lawyers' fees - they've spent a good chunk of their lives working on this trial, so why should they not charge what their clients are willing to pay?
$27 billion is 1/4th the GDP of Ecuador... it's like a damage award in the US of $4 trillion. The "expert" made up the numbers based on sheer fantasy. The only precedent it sets is to show what a crooked system exists in Ecuador for outsiders. Atty Donziger's "clients" are not paying his fees. The fees will come out of any award from Chevron -- if they ever collect, which I hope not.
You sound like a judgmental, conceited, illogical, self-satisfied, rich-kid, sanctimonious prick. No I don't work for Chevon and never have. Clearly you don't know what you're talking about. You just want to call other people names (see above, jerk) Get a life.
LOL FUCKING LOSER. LOL U really do sound like a little bitchboy who DOES work for Chevron-GO FUCK YOURSELF DOUCHEBOY.wHAT DID U DO GO TO YOUR OTHER SHILL PAGE.
U sound like u work for Chevron. They r 100% at fault for starting this-destroying the land and if the Oil company in Ecuador watched it happen for years taking their example from Chevron-CREATING ALL THOSE TOXIC LAKES-why the hell would they clean it up themselves? They wouldn't-because they don't care either. They're BOTH at fault with Chevron taking the lead-without them-there probably would be NO WELLS AT ALL.

1992 asshole-they were there for 28years.And if Texaco didn't go there with their fucked up drilling operations then this would not have happened.
And if i agree with someone about polluting the jungle and killing people-it does not mean i am a parrot-u dumb fuck-it means i have the same belief.U loser fuck.Fuck off & die asshole. lol
WHY IS THE CHILD DOING THAT. I bet she sues later saying, look what Texaco did to me. GIrl...you were playing with it like silly puddy. Good thing her parents were there to tell her that was a bad idea...oh wait
That's pretty messed up. Americans wonder why we are hated by other countries. These big corps make us look bad and they have the money to cover it up. The oil companies have the media paided off.

Texaco hasn't operated in Ecuador since 1990. These are all current images. Why don't the producersb blame Petroecuador, the national oil company?

The visual quality of this video is the worst I have seen. It looks like it was filmed on a cell phone and edited on a Commodore 64!
