  • what if you wanna speed it up more but the tempo thing is already at the not of the scrubber thing or whatever its called?? its simply not working

  • thanks it worked great!

  • THANKYOU!!!!

  • Thanks for this

  • There is no ALT key. Which key are you referring to. Tried every modifier key, still can't get that expanded window to appear.

  • Lets say I was working with 2 loops. I want to change the tempo of only one of them, without affecting the tempo of the other. How is this done?

  • @MisterMcKnight did you ever find out how to do this I'm trying to figure that out right now!

  • @Sparklemepink22 I can't find it ANYWHERE, it's driving me insane! How can all these poeple make videos on this and NEVER cover that?!

  • @MisterMcKnight I figured it out!! it's because there isn't an easy way to do it. you have to open the song and change it to the tempo then save and close it, then open it again with the original and change it to the second temp and then put the edited section in the left side and then delete the sections you don't want. phew... it's a pain but it works I did it yesterday.. phew message me if that didn't make sense :P

  • This didn't work for me, it won't let me click on the tempo thing in the center to click and drag the changer.

  • thank you! finally figured out what I've been trying to do for almost 5 months now -_-

  • but what if i want to only speed up 1 song i have...like i want to put a acapella on a instrumental but the acapella is to slow..but when i do this it makes the beat and the acapella faster.....i only want the acapella faster...lol

  • how do you change it back to orange!!! imediate help would be aprriciated as i am working on a project at the moment

  • @coolbeans37 try clicking ctrl alt G again

  • Perfect fucking video! Good learning method for a beginner. Way to type the instructions in the description box, Genius! Thanks for the help peace.

  • shottt

  • thank you!! :D

  • thank you sooooooooo much

  • Yeah it just shortens the song and cuts out parts to make it faster.

  • omg! thanks sooooo muchh!!!

  • oh my god I've been sitting here for weeks wondering how to do that . t h a n k y o u.

  • what song is this?!<3

  • @joliethebeast1 lil wayne - lolipop

  • DjDeda330, do what this video tells you on the slower song, move the beat up to the faster beat song, then just add the faster song. That worked out for me.

  • thanks! it didnt get this at first but if keep trying it will work!!

  • Thank you very much ;-)!

  • wow thanks this actually worked great job :)

  • I can't even get the track to turn purple. When I press control alt delete I just get an annoying *BEEP* and then nothing. What in the hell am I doing wrong?????

  • @shmageheeberry Control alt G, not control alt delete.

  • @dangbetch mine's pretty new too, but i don't have the new os x lion? make sure the track is unselected, then press ctrl option + G. after you do that, click on the entire track, then at the bottom menu a little box will show up that you can select "follow tempo + pitch".. after that the little blue screen at the bottom should show you the tempo, and if you click on it you can adjust the tempo. :) hope that helps..

  • This helped me a lot! Thank you :D

  • @jajimenez07 EH? How did it work for you? It SORT of worked for me, but not really. Maybe it's because I have a new Macbook pro?

  • Is it possible to change the tempo from say 82 beats to 82.5 or even 82.75? If you're trying to re-create a track, it helps to build a song to the exact speed of the original recording.

  • When i do this, the quality of the track that i speed up by about 5 beats per minute gets worse, the track goes sort of jittery :/ Anyone had the same problem or know how to fix it?

  • What if you cant click on the "Follow Tempo & Pitch"

  • thanks for uploading :D

  • Just select track

    Hit edit button (scissors)

Make sure 'Follow Tempo & Pitch is checked'

Go to 'Project' in the menu beside record button

    Change tempo

Only works for the whole project though...

  • thanks! worked for me.

  • thank u dude

  • CLICK FOLLOW TEMPO AND PITCH!!!

  • after you change the tempo and stuff, you gotta click on "follow tempo & pitch" under the "pitch" option on the left side

  • Hey I need help. Ok here it is. I want to change the pitch of an MP3 song on the garageband. I changed it to a purple region track already and checked the follow tempo and pitch but the problem is that the pitch won't move, it just stays on zero.

  • thank u!

  • when i click the clip it turns orange nor purple.!

  • Thanks so much!!

  • i can change the tempo... but... the music is still at the same speed

  • @elcono1000 you have to hit change tempo and pitch after the scissor edit button reks pepper taught me that.

  • OMG thank you!!! I couldn't have figured this out without you!!

  • THANKS A MILLION:)

  • thanks man! i appreciate it!

  • thanks :D very useful

  • see it poses a problem for me. who has to use songs with the same Bpm... for beat matching. i don't care about pitch. i want it to speed it up, so i can match beats.

  • the tempo/pitch cant be clicked, its just pale - whats am i doing wrong?

  • how do you make one go fast and one stay the same without saving the track and all that business, there HAS to be an easier way.

  • @ThoseGuys803 thanks, but I figured it out like 2 minutes after writing this... But thank you anyway :)

people should like YOUR comment so they can see the answer, not my whinging comment :P

  • thank you so much!

  • To make this work press COMMAND G INSTEAD!!!

  • yay!

  • Thank you!

  • hey man what did you use to capture this. i saw you click "stop capture" at the end. is there a certain application used for it?

  • @MyLifeIsATheory just type in screen recorder into google. the best for mac is probably screenflow or camtasia, both costing around £100 unless your willing to download them illegally.

  • U SAVED MY LIFE!

  • thanks for the upload man. i cant even call the song gay because it said no homo XD

  • Does this work on garageband 8? I tried but it doesn't work

  • How do you do a tempo change? in the middle of the song?

  • how do you just change 1 songs speed. and keep the other the same.

  • You are a lifesaver!!! Thank youuuu :)

  • it's def working for me but like the previous comments, it totally degrades the sound quality of the song. i was trying to sample some 70's soul music and when i slowed it down it sounded horrible...gotta see if there is any decent sampling software that does not degrade the sound quality as much as my garage band.

  • @BartsBeatz H

Hia Matey.... if your still searching for a more effective solution than Garage Band i'd certainly have a butchers at either VLC or Quick Time 7 Pro..... (VLC 1st based on the price.. FREE !) Pretty similar result and massive improvement on the "wobbly" Garage Band. I suppose the "time stretching" with "pitch retention"

teqnique is still relatively new (ish?!) so it's certainly not perfect but if anyone has found a better sollution I would love to hear it. Good Luck Charlie

  • OMG!!!!! I have been wanting to know soooo long!!!! THANK YOUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!

  • Have you discovered that slowing down a song in garage band alters the sound of the song? I tried slowing down a jazz song and the piano especially sounds horrible. It sounds all "wobbly." Did I do something wrong?

  • so fuckin helpful. thank you so much from someone who is technically handicap

  • yeah...i have ilife 08 andi dont have the same thing. but right ow i have an audio track on my gband and changing the tempo doesnt speed up or slow it down

  • thank you!

  • it doesnt workkkk!

  • Thanks dude nice tutorial

  • didnt work for me.. just stays the same speed.

  • @sabmy yeah i had the same problem YOU NEED TO REMEMBER TO CLICK FOLLOW THE TUNE MATE THUMBS UP SO EVERYONE KNOWS

  • @sabmy bro its says press ctrl+alt+g

  • @kiwiChix01 Yeah thanks, that was updated well after I posted that, wish this comment was top rated, I figured it out myself about 5 minutes after I posted and every few weeks I get a comment. Lol thanks anyway.

  • @sabmy i pressed control alt G and it turned purple or whatever, but the speed didn't change. like the display says it's a different speed but when it plays it's the same...........

  • i get issues with multiple tracks. and advice on Beatmatching ?

  • why wont mine work!?

  • DUDE. I love you! thanks soooo much!:D

  • what if you want the song faster and its already at 240??

  • @sockmittenz Okay, if you have the newer version of GarageBand, then when you create a new project, it should ask you what you want to title your project. If you look under the text box on the window that pops up, there should be something that says Tempo. Bring the scrolly thingy down as much as you want. Click save. It should work, if not, sorry :P

  • @sockmittenz save and reopen

  • I JUST WANT TO SLOW DOWN ONE SONG AND KEEP THE OTHER ONE THE SAME HOW DO I DO THAT ?

  • @DjDeda330 Only convert the song you want to convert to purple with CTRL+ALT+G. Leave the other song orange.

  • @DjDeda330 make a project that slows down one track, save that, and then put that saved project onto another project with the track that is the same.

  • @DjDeda330 Click on the song you want slowed down, then do what video says, but i dont know what ctrl, alt, g does, didnt even know that macs had an alt key.

P.S. If you want to just slow down part of a song, split the track, click on the part you want slowed down, and do what the video said. Hope this helps! :)

  • @DjDeda330 you Change The Tempo On each track so copy the song on another track, and then speed up The one you want and leave the other track the same

  • WOW......I cant make a sparta remix because it slows down the whole thing! D:

  • TO MAKE ORANGE TRACKS PURPLE:

    press control+option+G

    select the track.

  • i get it to turn purple, i click the follow tempo and pitch, i click project, and when i try to change the tempo it lets me scroll for like 1 second and then decides on 40. what's going on? and if i hurry i get the song to speed up, but then it sounds really bad. can anyone help me pleeeeease?? i'm just so frustrated with this one, i liked the old version better..

  • it worked for me!

  • what if the clip is orange and it wont change to purple?

  • how do you do this to just a portion of the song?

  • oh right, GB can be used to create useless music....right....

  • hey what song is this?

  • @NikeSwoosh407 Lollipop - Lil Wayne

  • okay i get this, but i need the song to follow the bpm i set. if i add a song that's 87.5 bpm, but i need at 87 how do i change that? if i set garageband's tempo to 87 and do the control option g thing and select follow tempo and pitch, it doesn't slow the song to 87, it keeps it at 87.5. how can i change that?

  • how do I slow the tempo of two different recording? so that i have one set at one tempo and another set to a different one

  • None of this works. no shift, G, Comm, or ctrl, atl, G, or crtl alt G samething. nor comm, alt, G

  • command Shift G fixed for me:)

  • Comment removed

  • @manouchecool Same here,

  • the reason why the tempo and pitch button is grayed out is because you have to press control + alt + G like he said. this makes pressing the button possible.
