  • I'd want Bill Nye science goggles...

  • It is, in fact, possible to do #1 without destroying the egg- you must select your vessel carefully. A 500 mL flask works well.

    As for you, Mr4yOK, this would actually be one of the (rare?) occasions where Bill is correct and your teacher is not. If we were to watch a close up of the egg in slo-mo, we would be able to see it dance around a bit before the fire goes out: this is due to the expanding gas. While the O2 is used up, it would not create enough of a change in volume by itself for this.

  • @Altoclarinets I guess I'm a year late to join in on this conversation, but you are absolutely correct. Many people think it is because the O2 is used up, but that is a common misconception.

  • Hot air doesnt escape. The oxygin molecules are used up. The mol/mass oc CO2 is still there but its become more dense making the volume more compact. If it is the hot air escaping its not vacuume, its an under pressure. Bill nye wasnt the best after all :( I thought he was untill this vid.
