They never went to another parent-teacher interview for my remaining years at school, despite hands and knees pleas from my teachers and my high school principal in senior high school (1986 and 1987). Just imagine the stories I could of told like the one I already on online sites like this if they bothered to turn up to many more parent-teacher interviews.
Such a show was wanted for so long. At a parent-teacher session my parents went to in either last term 1976 (Year 1) or first term 1977 (Year 2), I over heard a teacher complain to a parent that Sesame Street was corrupting the minds of her students by the show using US sayings, spellings, culture and values and her students loved Sesame street. Well, I only had a short time to witness parent-teacher interviews as the very last such event my parents ever went to was in term 1 in 1978 (Year 3).
Lift Off was a very good attempt to create a truly quique Australian version of Sesame Street with Australian culture, sayings, spellings and values. The producers of this show used the people who's ideas are used in Sesame Street as a start. But when the Howard government was elected in 1996, Howard axed the program and cut ABC funding by a great amount. Thankfully the ABC still airs Sesame Street. A total of 78 episodes were made.
OH MY GOSH. Every now and then I get this tune stuck in my head, and I have NO idea where it is from or if I had just made it up or something. WOW. WOW. Thank you.
@Spacemonkeymojo You're too close-minded. The faceless doll freaked me out a bit at first, but I gave it a chance and I loved the show. The main point I got about EC the doll was that we shouldn't judge people based on their appearance. I was 10 when it was on
@Trees82 Thanks for that. I was probably 8 or so when it was on TV. I could say that you have no right to judge my degree of stubborness, especially when I was at a young and naive age. But hey, from seeing other posts on your page I can quickly discern that you are a very condenscending person, who seems patronize others based on one post that they have made on *Youtube*. I might be closed-minded, but you are also, and you're also a real big dickhead, dickhead.
@Spacemonkeymojo That's a pretty condescending judgement. So you were 8 when the show was on? How old were you when you posted a comment saying that your childhood would've been ruined if you'd watched Lift-off?
@Trees82 Do you take everything so seriously? You're very arrogant. I don't care what you say, my view about the show will not change. Go and preach to someone else.
Aussie tv at its best i loved this show its a shame it wasn't around for long as it was really good i dunno about EC though i agree with other wen they say that doll was a bit creepy but still a really good show though :-)
I remember this show with closed caption. I remember Mr Fish or Mr Fisher I not remember. He is from ROUND THE TWIST... I love game show E.C. PLAYS LIFT-OFF
When the show was first popular, after a little while a few EC dolls appeared in the shops, and we got one for one of my primary age daughters. She took it to school. After school, one of the younger kids saw it, and yelled to her mum "It's EC!!!! - it's EC!!!". The kid desparately wanted to get closer. The mum just dragged her along, in a hurry, and knowing of course that it wasn't the real EC. As the kid was dragged away she kept looking back, and sobbing "It's EC!!!.. it's EC!!!..."
this was by far one of the most imaginative shows i've ever seen... sooooo many days after school watching this.... there were only a few shit episodes... but it was one of those shows where u just watch... no talking... just sit & stare at the screen almost tripping out even.... lol
I loved this when i was a kid.. Then 2 year ago I was at a pub at the Tamworth Country Music Festival and one of the blokes that use to be in it was there (the one that was in home and away for a lil while) so we sat there talking bout Lift off for a while..
OH MY GOD!!!!!! Lift Off! wow this brings back memories! Me as a 7yr old, 15yrs ago, rushing home from school for this, the trap door, raggy dolls, johnson and friends and gumby! they just dont make em like that anymore!
Oh man I loved this show. I was born a little late for it but I watched reruns when I was 4 or 5. I love the elevator and the talking backpacks, but EC always scared me a little lol. Very strange, very entertaining show, up there with Art Attack and Princess and the Cobbler among my favourite childhood TV memories.
oh man, EC, the doll, flipped me out as a kid. It's a fuckin moving doll with no eyes and downie hands! DOWNIE HANDS! Gurarghh. And then Mark Mitchell, he just freaked me out anyway. And I always remember, I'd get so so sooo bored during the frill neck lizard sequences. WTF WERE THEY DOING!?
Wow, this brings back so many memories. Every Saturday morning my sister and I would get up really early just to watch this. One gripe: those wolf things in the diner were freaky as hell. To this day I still can't handle them.
i think this was one of the shows i could *never* miss when i was like... 4... and now i'm 18 and seeing the no face doll... well it's just disturbing.
