Once it gets to the point of collapsing the right atrium, it's typically a dire situation...apical 4 chamber view is best to see collapse though

Don't forget that acute gain of pericardial fluid can put a patient in tamponade. It isn't always a large volume!

The tamponade is more of a slowing motion of the heart due to the outside pressures?

Actually the heart typically speeds up in order to try to "keep up" since the amount of blood being pushed out every beat is limited due to the fluid restricting the hearts ability to receive blood during its filling phase. Tachycardia + hypotension.
