  • Too,too much like the Nurember Rallies for my liking(from what I can see) also it has distinct overtones of the final (Nazi) scene in "Raiders of the Lost Ark"

It brings up (once again) the vexed question of Wagner's Anti Semitism,it looks like a descendant is reviving it?

Check out the English translation of the last act lyrics(mainly by Cosima) and tell me they aren't Anti Jewish!

I still love(good productions) of this opera though.

  • Disgusting production.

  • Disturbing, insightful and relevant! Congratulations Katrina Wagner for having the guts to produce this at Bayreuth. Sachs last oration reminded me of a Nurnberg rally of yesterday or Papal rally today.

I never dreamed of seeing a courageous production like this of Hitler's favourite opera. It shows why the 'message' is so dangerous and so powerful and the dangers of totalitarian rules.

  • This was so awful on stage. Katharina Wagner is a shame !!! she was booed a lot. I hope she will leave bayreuth festival. Richard Wagner does not deserve it!!

  • @zarathoustroy His own namesake produced this? She should be run out of town on a rail!!! Let us hope and pray she is NOT the current director!!!

  • Idiots below: Make something new the Master told us. And this actually was good, but morans have yet too see something!

  • @aslom44 new does not mean ugly

  • completely unromantic... where´s the connection between the content and music on stage?

  • @SuperDarchangel EXACTLY. Another dreary postmodern production--and Bayreuth, of all places, has been the worst offender since Wieland Wagner's belated productions bit the dust. The master would crap on this.

  • @SuperDarchangel There isn't any!!!!

  • This is typical of the postmodern Wagner productions of recent times: domesticated, trivialised and deprived of its originally beautiful setting. Postmodernity and beauty aren't natural bed fellows after all!

  • @bayreuth79 All too, too, true. Wagner would have hated this production. It looks like they ran out of money for sets/costumes.
