  • Iona is a great band!

  • I think it's a beautifull Island

  • great place was there 5years ago.thanks for video

  • Braw wee place so it is .Did st Columba go here after he caused the deaths of hundreds of men in battle,Was this place like some kind of self banishment?

  • Ninian was born in Galloway, he didn't bring Christianity to Scotland, it was already here almost 2 centuies before Ninian. According to some historians King Donald I at the beginning of the 3rd century professed the Christian religion and used it to extirpate the superstition of the Druids. But he was at war with the Romans so Druidism wasn't extinguished. King Crathilinth at the end of the 3rd century as well, and his successor Fincormachus (312-350). I've been meaning to research it further.

  • St.Ninian brought Christianity to Scotland before Columba.

  • Most historians have overlooked the fact that Iona was the headquarters of the one True Church during the Dark ages. Iona was the centre of Christendom, its where Christianity was preserved from Roman times when it had found sanctuary beyond the bounds of the Empire. The Church that Columba founded existed right upto the time of the Reformation. It was persecuted so it functioned mostly underground until the 16th century. Knox preached the same Gospel that emanated from Iona 1,000 years earlier.

  • Slight error..

The Gospel found sanctuary beyond the bounds of the Empire during Roman times and then Saints such as Ninian spread the Gospel until eventually Columba built the Church on Iona. From the 6th until the 12th century Iona was the "shining lamp" of Christendom.

  • Yay. (: I've been to Iona!

    Going again in October.

    (Hi Rhona's Family!)

  • My name's Iona. Videos like this make me realise what a lucky dot I really have to be named after such a beautiful and spiritual place.

  • How inspiring! The introduction reminds me of the first connection I had, in this lifetime, with Iona and how I came to visit this magical island in the first place. Iona is always like coming home! Iona is always connected to the life of St Columba and his mission, which is more than fine indeed. However, many forget, or do not know, about the spiritual activities before the arrival of St Columba, such as druids and the Magi people who also should be tributed for making Iona what it is today.

  • Iona, must have been there a lifetime long ago.

Now I live on an island off the coast of maine.

  • I really miss Iona, hope to go visit the island again very soon. It is an amazing place.

Thank you for posting this video

  • Fantastic!,Well Done!

  • amazing...just amazing

  • I visited there last year. I had to sit down in the grounds of the old abbey just down the road from St. Columba's Church, as I was shaking with emotion. I closed my eyes and could see it as it was. The well, the vegetable garden, a mound of cockle and mussel shells, hear the bleating of some sheep. I had to walk through the abbey and touch the old walls.

  • Thanks for this wonderful footage. I've never been to the Iona, or Ireland for that matter. But my heritage draws me back and a piece of my heart is already there. "Iona", by the way, is one of my favorite groups. Thanks for incorporating both in this clip.

  • Iona is in Scotland, silly, not Ireland!

  • Video gave me "the chills" (chill of recognition?, maybe I lived on Iona during Fr. Columba's time?...).

Iona the Blest. I mo Chridh Thu. Isle of my Heart, my Grail.

Mist and dew. Eye of Love. Deep calling. Deep peace. Hidden jewel on IONA.

  • My name is Iona. And my friends call me Iona Bicycle (I-Own-A-Bicycle)... It's annoying. :p

  • it's thanks to Mike Scott and his gorgeous song 'Peace of Iona', that I set off to discover this magical land a fair few years ago.I have returned there every year since! It comforts the soul and unlocks genes inside us that have lain dormant for millenia...everyone should come here at least once in their lifetime...for the world would be a better place!
