Your argument only strenthen idea that story is at the heart of many (not all) games. When you can build your own story in wide opportunity environment, thats even more "about story" than in the case of single ending story. But you have to be able to build a distinct story, not simply wonder around, so a lot of work is expected in this direction.

  • That would eventually to merge of TV-storytelling and games to new media profile. And its not just about collision or number of available options for action.

  • Never heard more boring talk about games. This kind of thinking perfectly explains why most computer games are terribly boring. Try to read more on games not from computing perspective. Maybe, try starting from Huizinga (Homo Ludens). Also some classics on stories (possibly holywood screenwriters would be a good start), because games are definetly about stories. And also more insight in psycology of attractions would also benefit your greatly.

  • @Dreamagister There are some great "Story games" out there

Half Life 2 (+ Episode 1 and 2) had a great story within and manipulated the player in many ways normally only story tellers do.

But the best example would be "Heavy Rain" on the PS3, it is basicly an interactive movie with a lot of different endings.

But yeah, single player games more and more become about storyt elling.
