  • Awesome vid, thanks!

  • Great video! Thanks for posting this!!

  • Does the quick always stay the same size, even when the nail gets really big?

  • @panblicharski The quick always stays proportional to the nail.

  • Showing the pulp was the best part. I understand now what to look for. Thank you so much and my dogs thank you too!

  • i just wanted to say that I really appreciate this video! I just started working as a vet assistant and I've been very nervous to do nails on dogs because I can't tell how much to take off and where the quick is. This really helped and I like how you explained about the pulp, because I did not know that at all. Thanks!

  • Aw! I had a pit/rott mix. I miss him :(

  • omg take that hair off from his paw its bugging me ! lol .. but ty so much for the vid.

  • Is the "pulp"? [Couldn't hear you clearly] that black part underneath the nail?

  • Dremel? Are you out of your mind? The grinding action generates heat, making the procedure verrry uncomfortable.

  • @N0cdar Sounds like you have had some experience. I recommend you try a professional as they are trained to watch for the heat.

  • Question: I was told by a neighbor that if you clip your dog's nail at the quick and it starts to bleed a little, you can use corn scratch or flour to seal and heal. Is that safe and okay?

  • @Harlowsimms99 you can use corn startch but try not to hit the quick, its very painful. I rather pay my vet the $10 to have them do it every 2 months instead of risking hurting my dog

  • @Harlowsimms99 Yes, that's perfect information. Its safe to use as long as its not dirty. In other words, if its clean enough to eat, its clean enough to use on the nails.

  • It is hard to find the quick but you make it more difficult, nothing illustrative Sorry!

  • This video is helpful. But I would rather just clip the hook off and file or drill the rest down. I don't think chancing it and hurting my dog will help the trust that she has in me. Plus I would want anyone making me bleed when there's another option. But I did learn how to find the quick and what you should look for. Thanks!

  • Thank you DuAnn! This is the BEST video anyone has done on how to clip nails. I knew about the quick, but not how to specifically find it like you have described. Too bad you are in another state. I would love to learn from you!

  • this has been so helpful! my poor dogs nails are too long...thanks!

  • Hope she has grooming videos as well. Some people are not very good at explaining how to do things step by step.

  • Love this video. Very informative.

  • Ok, the drill that you used can not be in contact with your dog nail more that 5 sec. why because since the speed of the tool your dog will fell a burn sensation. you need to give to your dog a break for few sec and then continue

  • best video on you tube for trimming dog nails. thanks!

  • Thank you for your easy to understand, clear tutorial on how to care for a dog's nails. I have the pleasure of having a German Pointer in my family, and his nails are the same as your beautiful "pup"(what a beautiful face!). Your video gave me confidence, plus it answered a few questions that no one has been able to. It's as if I was in the shop getting a personal lesson. I thank you and 'Picasso' thanks you . I now know exactly what the nail should look like - woof to you!

  • Thank you for demonstrating how to cut nails on black dogs.

I use to own a Golden who had white nails, so I was able to cut all of her nails in seconds. Now with my German Shepherd and his black nails, I'm unsure just how far I can cut. I do keep them short by cutting a little bit off once a week, but I had a feeling I could cut more.

After watching your video and keeping your tips in mind, I went ahead and cut all of his nails with ease. :)

  • Very Helpful, i will try this the next time i cut our black pugs toenails :)

  • This is a beautiful Dog such a wonderful mix and a beautiful temperment

  • My dog "basset hound" nails are very long and grow in a half circle into the paw,... the wick is very long and the nails are black, i trim a little off every week. Ive tried the sand paper tool and that does not work, any ideas to make the nails shorter, and not cause pain?

  • Thanks for the video!

  • Yes, it is harder to find the quick because the grinder blends all the lines together.

  • I couldn't hear you clearly while the grinder was on, were you saying it's harder to find the quick using the grinder?

  • Great video, very informative - thank you :)
