  • Watching this from the audience, I was terrified. Still very very good though.

  • It's the South Park outside of Pittsburgh.

  • It's not surprising that Jesus can get violent. The purpose of the musical was to introduce jesus as a human being, not necessarily as a messiah for a race of people. It's the audience to make up their minds on that; he's merely a human, with human faults and problems, take it or leave it.

  • Haha it's funny when people argue.

  • I was in this performance..it was amazing...and it won best musical...so quit talking shit.

  • i wonder, is this the south park near pittsburgh, the one in texas, or colorado, or north dakota? anyways, it was pretty good...

  • Aw man. I live in South Park and I read about this in the good old "Park News." I really wanna watch, but it's not playing for me for some reason. Anyways, I'll keep checking back to see if it fixes itself. :)

  • So, for the record, everyone:

The point of this video isnt to be anti jesus, or anti ANYBODY, for that matter. In fact, the play itself emulates Jesus as a good, caring man. this scene is where hes angry of the goings on in his temple. But, thats besides the point. point is- THIS WAS POSTED SO THE PERFORMERS COULD WATCH THEIR PERFORMANCE!

    Go figure!

  • Also, when he THROWS the people, he was supposed to throw tables. In the actual performance, he did. He destroyed the gambling. But, again, AWARD SHOW. They don't even have their full set, let alone all of theirs props. So, they needed to improvise.

Please, leave the poor kids alone.

  • Mind if I cut in?

ITS A HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMANCE RECORDED AND PLACED ON HERE FOR THE PERFORMERS IN THE SONG TO SEE WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE AT THE AWARD SHOW THEY WERE NOMINATED FOR (AND won, because they really are incredible)

ITS NOT FOR EVERYONE TO DISCUSS AND ARGUE FOR JESUS CHRIST SO HE CAN SEE YOU DEFENDED HIM AND BE MORE LIKELY TO GO TO HEAVEN, OR WHATEVER REASON YOU ALL HAVE FOR BITCHING AT THEM.

  • I think it's silly that people would complain about Jesus not being like his real self. Is this musical supposed to be taken seriously and I didn't get the memo?

They also didn't have news crews and cars and guns, but these are common elements of this musical.

  • Great job, " babay ", I am so glad you taped it.

This show was amazing, the kids are so talented and there is nothing wrong with Jesus being portrayed as being upset, because, well it is in the Bible he did get upset, hello " aoscar and muppetfest "? Congratulations to the South Park Drama Club, you guys rock!

  • Rough, very rough. Jesus has none of the high wailing outrage and explosive tension that the part requires. And I don't think the character would ever physically assault someone...I don't buy it. Also the chorus is WAY over choreographed. There was none of the sex and grunge and dirt in the temple. What is Jesus getting angry at, the bad choreography? I did, but I think Jesus would be quite a bit more forgiving than I.

  • We appreciate your commentary, "aoscar" and "muppetfest", but I feel that there's some things you Both should know.

    Our musical was kickass... obvi.

And it got nominated for Best Musical at the Gene Kelly Awards... and won... duh.

  • And I agree, Jesus certainly is angry and certainly should be throwing a tantrum...but never ever ever would I accept that Jesus Christ, in any incarnataion placed his hands on another human being in an act of aggression. He preaches caring and forgivness, understanding and love...his power as a symbol, and his conflict as a character is tainted when he does that.

  • Our actor who played Jesus Christ was an astounding actor in our show, therefore getting nominated for Best Actor. Since he was nominated for Best Actor, he got to perform in a montage with the 5 other guys that were nominated, as well... therefore, for this performance of "The Temple", he saved his wailing and screaming, etc., for That performance.

  • Oh, and uh, as for the music?

Wasn't our fault. That's an amazing orchestra they've got there, but the conductor had them play it waaaaaay too fast. What were we supposed to do? We told them to slow it down, but it was to no avail.

by the way? if you didn't read it up there... we won that category.

    ;)

  • Win as much as you like. It's art, it's subjective. The fact of the matter is that Jesus Christ Superstar has it's roots in the culture of the 1970s. It is a "Rock Opera" not a musical. To try and force the material into a template indicitive of music theatre is nothing but detrimental to the spirit and themes of the piece. Fiddle with it, chop it up, take it out of context if you like, but it is still vital to honour to original spirit of the piece. This excerpt simply did not...at all.

  • One of the many reasons I don't think art in any form should be subjected to competition. It can have all the elements of what is considered "brilliant" or "exceptional" and still fall flat. When I say wailing outrage I'm not necessarily talking about the actual singing or screaming. I'm talking about the tension that needs to read for the audience to understand and believe that Jesus could have gone from preacher to mad-man. For me, it didn't read.

  • nice one!

  • i disagree with you muppetfest. the chorus is too fast. that is the only thing wrong with this segment. a higher voice Jesus? really? that would probably only ruin the heart felt affect of this musical. it is obvious just from viewing this section that this show brought out the emotions of its audience. i am amazed that actors this young were capable of such a dramatic and emotional show. they look like a truly talented bunch especially Jesus! Congratulations to the cast crew and directors!

  • The Chorus Was Good. Not So Much Jesus. Jesus Christ Would Never Push People. Thats Crazy. He Has a Okay Voice, Maybe Needs to be a little Bit Higher

  • He would push people. Whip them too.

"When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the Temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords and drove all from the Temple. 'It is written,' he said to them, 'My house will be called a house of prayer but you are making it a den of robbers.'"
