hmmm... elephants are group animals, arent they suposed to let the elder females to help in the process of birth? as far as i know, elephats are not supposed to give birth alone.
Wow! I'm speechless. Who taught this mommy elephant to do such thing in order to save its newborn? It's a rhetorical question... We all know that LIFE means INTELLIGENCE.
In the wild elephants choose grassy sites or soft earth, not solid concrete. I think this baby was stunned by landing on concrete. In the wild the body fluids get absorbed into the earth. This poor creature had to slip and slid on them due to the concrete. Another reason for keeping animals in their natural habitat. When we interfere we create problems, animals should be left wild, not in captivity.
Just in my opinion i think that if they had just put some like hay in the cage thing, that might have hepled a little... But still DorneyParkFan98, You are right they are meant to drop onto hard earth/ground so no need to worry guys :D
Ok so all you people who keep saying stuff about a hard floor: In the wild, the babies are dropped onto hard earth. They are meant to drop onto hard surfaces. They are not mean or cruel for not helping either, for if they did, the keepers could have gotten killed because the mother would not want anything near her baby and would most likely attack them. Instinct kicks in and therefore, assistance is only needed if the mother does not accept the baby.
How sweet to watch this mother giving birth to her baby. It's amazing how nature provides the mom's with the instinct to check and clean the baby directly after birth and to take care of it as a mother would. Very sweet... yet a little scary that all that came out at once during delivery.
The people at this safari park are barbaric and criminal in their behavior to NOT have provided this mother a soft flooring on which to deliver her baby. I was disgusted and sickened. It's amazing the baby survived that crash to the cement floor and totally avoidable. If that stupid man commentator is an example of the staffing there, then they should be investigated. Don't they have animal rights in Bali?!?!? Outrageous.
You know, videos like this would have gotten me pretty damn close to throwing up when I was a kid, but now I'm 16 and I've learned how beautiful nature is and its' everyday miracles like this one. Just thinking out loud.
Nikki is one smart elephant,,she knew what to do to get baby to breath and then get up on her feet and walk,,,amazing and Ive never seen that much afterbirth,,, holy crap
The Mom wanting the baby to wake up made me Cry! lol This was sooo amazing absolutely sooo happy the sweet baby survived! I can't even put in to words how this video make me feel!
If the baby had not had to land on hard concrete but on the jungle floor then the landing would have been more gentle. Also the amniotic waters would have soaked away
For those wondering how it saved the infant's life. Did you notice that she was kicking it's chest and realigning it to kick its chest more. It is the equivalent to CPR when you press rapidly on a human's lungs in accordance to estimated breathing pattern to start their breathing back up. Then she lifted the head and snout to drain fluids from both the snout and throat. Elephants are intelligent. They make the connection to air giving life. lungs expand and shrink. And fluids get caught.
@happydamned No, that's the amniotic fluid which has been protecting the baby against knocks while inside her mum's womb. It's mostly water and just like what surrounded you when you were a baby
i wish that elephant died and i loved all that blood it reminded me of my sister six birthday party i raped her so bad she bleed all over the place. That tightly sealed asshole i will never forget love ya sis
i can't believe what i just saw. The way the elephant mother helps her baby to breath just amazing. I was worried that she would kill it with those kicks but it turned out to be very helpful. she acted like a human. still can't believe it............
What an amazing Mama elephant! Nature is amazing and to be able to see such a moment on film is remarkable. I'm so glad that this had a happy ending :-)
Ohhhhh so this is what happens when humans don't meddle. I'm sure these animals find humans annoying sometimes always thinking they know better than nature. I was afraid the baby was stillborn but the mother saved her by wacking her like a sledge hammer, elephant babies are tough!
@quirkychic1984 Also notice that she is kicking it with the flat shin, not a pointed toe. You can compare it to a slap versus a punch. And elephants are DAMN tough. Haha.
Go mama elephant! Amazing how nature just gives them the resources. I wonder how humans would have coped if we had stayed as cavemen...although with the mortality rate having lowered so much maybe its good we have doctors now, although one has to wonder, maybe nature was trying to not overpopulate with humans. omgosh at around 3:35 when she starts wrapping her trunk around the babies trunk, trying to lift its head, she seems to be begging the baby to get up.. this is just absolutely heartbreaking until the baby takes its breath a few seconds later... this is so beautiful
