  • This video. like almost all "WW 2 Documentary" is flawed. It uses a lot of assorted stock footage which to someone who doesn't know seems realistic but to anyone who knows WW 2 armor is a jumble of Tanks from different time periods. One of Wittmans great tactical skills was turning his Tiger on its tracks. This was faster than the turret. He learned this in the Stug's in which he served prior to the Tiger.

  • I would like to know if these soviet tanks actually fired a shot during most battles. It's like he was up against toddlers almost. He described a soviet tank trained on him from a flank to his left, he not only had time to turn his tank, settle his gun on 100m and fire before this giant Stalin 1 could shoot, I wonder what the hell it was doing? 100m is pretty damn close.

Did he ever mention his damaged tank? Was it ever directly fired upon?

Seems him and his crew were far ahead of the game.

  • at 56 sec thats french tanks

  • so Germans were defeated because the enemy had too many tanks not because the enemy had some genial tactics

  • @x3ckid saw an interview with an old ww2 german tank commander.

he said on the western front, the germans had no fear of any allied tank.

they didnt say what eastern front tank they had caution for.

  • So ever since this "World of Tanks" game came into existence, every 12 year old on YouTube suddenly became some kind of tank expert?

  • @Ravensteinzh Yes, that is correct. ^_^

  • Not enough Tiger tanks - too complicated to manufacture en masse - but what a powerful machine!!

  • Jaja Wittmann war ein KLASSE Tank Commander

  • There were 44,900 T-34's destroyed on the Eastern Front by the German Tiger and Panther Panzers and Flak 88mm and Pak 43 88mm, that's a fact, need I say more?

  • @hailherrosner Not that I disagree or agree with that statement but can you provide me with a source that proves it? It is an interesting point you are making that I want to explore.

  • @Ravensteinzh Read books by Tank experts Steven Zaloga, an American historian and Krivosheev, a Russian tank expert. Steven Zaloga puts total Soviet Tank losses at 84,900 Tanks from 1941-45, including all types, and TD's. Krivosheev a Soviet Historian and Tank expert studied Soviet records scrupulously he claims 96,500 tanks destroyed from 1941-45. Also read "PANZER TRUPPEN (volume 2) The Complete Guide To The Creation and Combat Employment of German Tank Forces 1943-45" by Thomas L. Jentz.

  • @Ravensteinzh continued...read previous post first. 44,900 T-34's destroyed, source, "Red Army Handbook" by Steven.J. Zaloga, 1998, Pg 180, table 6.2, correction from previous post Zaloga claims 83,500 Soviet Tanks destroyed Pg 181 table 6.3, Krivosheev claims 96,500 Soviet tanks irrevocably destroyed, source "Soviet Casualties and Combat Losses In The Twentieth Century" by Col General G.F. Krivosheev,Greenhill books,London,1997, Pg 253 table 95. To be continued, breakdown of Tank losses 1941-45

  • @Ravensteinzh Continued part 3....Read previous 2 posts first, Soviet Tank losses in 1941 was 20,500 of all types, including 2,300 T-34's and 900 Kv-1 and KV-2 heavy, in 1942 15,100 Tanks were lost, including 6,600 T-34's and 1,200 KV-1 and KV-2 series. In 1943 Soviet tank losses were 23,500 tanks including 14,700 T-34's and 1,300 KV's, in 1944 23,700 tanks lost, including 13,746 T-34's,source "Soviet Casualties and Combat Losses" by Col General G.F. Krivosheev, Greenhill,London,Pg 253, table 95

  • @Ravensteinzh continued part 4, read previous post first, In 1945 Soviet Tank losses were 13,746 totally destroyed out of which 7,554 were T-34's, the rest being heavies such as KV's and JS2's and TD's etc...SOURCE is "Soviet Casualties and Combat Losses In The Twentieth Century" by Col General G.F. Krivosheev, Greenhill Books, London, 1997, Pg 252-253 Table 95. Krivosheev puts German losses on the Eastern Front at 32,500 Tanks of all types including Tank Destroyers, it was a War of Attrition!!

  • but the Germans lost the battle anyway

and the Russian tanks rumbled west and flattened berlin

and took all the german tanks away.

  • He went hamm!!

  • So is only the tank Commander considered a Tank Ace? or is the entire crew of the tank also known as Tank Ace's

  • @CommissarCain34

i think they have individual scores, as they didnt stay together the whole time?

  • @infernalzen wittman had his same gunner

  • @CommissarCain34 I would call the gunner the tank ace because he's the only person that would be destroying the enemy tank.

  • @dasupasin

Whole crew counts for it actually! Gunner is only gunner without the crew he is goner!

  • I got a Wittmann medal in World of Tanks for destroying 9 tanks all above tier 4 :)

  • @Wedigar i bet he didnt have to face any T30's LOL

  • @infernalzen yeah.. the biggest tank of america.... the 9 tank didn't face to face fight

  • he dit confront T'30 and also T34, and he was a hard on the battlefield and one of the best on the east he shoot down in a Tiger:

    66 kills on 1/9/1943 (easternfront) 22 T34 and 19 T30

    30 kills on 1943 (easternfront) 13 T34 and 7 T30

    56 kills on 7/1/1944

    66 kills on 9/1/1944

    88 kills on 13/1/1944

    114-117 kills on 29/1/1944

His Taktiks and his good trained crew on this wapon was absolutly deadly.

  • @BerlinaBub First off, it's a T-34, use the minus sign please.

He was talking about world of tanks. In world of tanks, T34 AND T30 are tier9 and ten tanks, completely outclassing the Tiger.

  • @idvhfd yes, tanks not even designed till years after the last tigers +king tigers were made

  • @infernalzen No.

They were designed during the war in a hope of a chance of killing the Tigers and King Tigers.

You know that Americans have lots of imagination. They just invented the most stupid tanks that would never work, with artillery cannons and so-shit like the 150mm T30 gun or the 120mm T34 gun.

It's just like a kid inventing a tank.

Looks stupid, but it can destroy a planet just by aiming at it.

    Sheesh, Americans....

  • @Wedigar with wich tank?

  • @morpeust VK3601H. Whole team was wiped except me and a Grille, they still had 8 tanks at the time. I killed 7 of them and the Grille got one, gave me 9 total. Was quite a battle lol

  • Wow, He killed 30 T-34's in five days of furious battles in the Battle of Kursk, incredible! Now that's what I call a TANK ACE!!

  • Meh, destroying T-34 is easy, they have armor and gun power in adequate to power of tiger. In other words who cares, we have serial killers that kill more kids than he did. And at the end he died like scum to first anti tank gun he met :)

  • @Hashishtani

    Do u think so ?

I think u are the best tanker in the world, and u are soo old because u know what easy to kill t 34 doesnt it ?

    Dont say bullshit please...

Yes, he had an excellent tank, but he need an excellent tank...

  • @Hashishtani

and lot of years long he doesn't met any anti tank gun ?

However, he killd by the anti tank plane beacause the tower flown from the tank few meters,

and the tower was heavyer than 10 tonns

  • @morpeust

his tank was destroyed by canadian ordinary shermans at close range.

his own ammo blowing up, caused the turret to come off

  • his gunner is the one who needs credit surely

  • @scumbaguk I can't remember Wittmann's tank gunners name ,but Wittmann credits him as the key to his success. The gunner was given the Iron Cross too. Mentioned in this clip Bobby Voll. A tank sniper ..

  • Comment removed

  • @208stroker1 Wittman didnt actually commit any murders himself, there is a big difference between thinking like Hitler and doing what Hitler did.

  • @suolalemon yes i understand what u are saying but you or i dont know if he did or didnt we wernt there in his tank.

  • @208stroker1

You should stick to music and not history, Wittman didn't commit warcrimes, no records exist.

  • yh wat about the rest of his crew u never hear anything about them

  • with he crew knowledge and experiences.he can train other crew member of panzer tank how to shoot in target and make possible move in battle tank.end of ww2.panzer did not have many good gunner and comander to control their tank..

  • АХХАХАХАХАХХАХАА 30 tanks ,26 AT s and 2 batt .. ahahhahahahah SICK

  • The Best Tank in WW2

    Heil Hitler

  • If my history serves me correct, the Tiger was a manually brought to bear on a target by the use of hand cranks. I don't believe they had powered turret steering. This meant that it was much slower to get the turret on target using the crank rather than to "turret steer" the tank. CAPT Wittmann's background was in assault guns, which was basically a fix turreted tank. He used that assault gun training on his Tiger. Brilliant! And, one can lose a track doing this. Don't ask me how I know!

  • Did anyone catch this on 3:03? Captain Wittmann did something known in tank parlance as "turret steering." He used the tracks of his tank to position the main gun to it's target. I used to do this on my M-1: have one track go one way and the other track go the opposite direction. This would cause the tank to rotate without rotating the turret.

  • R.I.P

  • I'm so glad it was a Canadian that Killed Michael Whittman haha

  • @DaManzMoney arey erripuka chetta lanjodaka

  • R.I.H Michael Whittman = Rest In Hell

  • Hes German standard that he killed so many poeple xD

  • I've heard about allied soldiers escaped off their tanks when they have spotted a Tiger or a King Tiger. In this video I see the reason :P

  • michael wittmann it's the brother of mine grandfather

  • @AndreasHallo444

shame he didnt survive the war +help defend germany against the russians as part of nato, like Rudel the stuka ace

  • @AndreasHallo444 you must be very proud of your heritage, i know i would be if i were you. he was a true talented warrior, germny produced many like him. he deserves much respect.

  • @AndreasHallo444 if it is true what you say, what an honored family you descend from.

  • wittman's a tank!!!!!

  • They should have taken him off the battlefield and used him to train crews.

  • @BATTERIESc

yeah. you'd think he should pass on his complete tactical knowledge.

even visit each unit +remind each crew on good tactics....

visit them to boost their morale...

  • @infernalzen They tried to, he was sent to see hitler and after that hitler offered him to become an instructor but you cant keep a tiger in a cage, wittmen decided to go back to the front, but this time the euro front he was faced up against Brit commando's at normandy that stalked and hunted him down (he was tank number 007) so it wasn't hard. The brits one hit him with an anti-tank round blew the turret from the gun essentialy beheading the crew with debree. GG Wittmen a warriors death.

  • @BATTERIESc Hitler wanted him to do exactly that after a few months he felt a inner since of duty pulling him to the front.

  • @BATTERIESc Well The Germans shoulfd of did alot of things but they didn't cause they had fool as leaders

  • @DaManzMoney Erwin Rommel was a GREAT General but he Obyed Hitlers Orders no matter how stupid making him lose many battles it was hitler the reason why germany lost ww2

  • @jasincl

You know jack, jack: Rommel disobeyed Der Fuhrer's orders on more than one occassion, but enjoyed such favor he was not sacked !

  • @BATTERIESc hitler orderd/asked him in 1944 2 become a tank instructor but he refused 2

  • @BATTERIESc actually Wittmann was offered the chance to do just that but he declined...he wanted to stay in frontline combat like the true warrior he was

  • @BATTERIESc They tried to but he refused

  • @BATTERIESc Dude Germany didn't have enough tank crews and soliders as it was they couldn't take one of there best out of the war

  • @BATTERIESc hitler actually offered him if he wanted to become an instructor but he refused.

  • @BATTERIESc they offered him the choice to do so, but he refused and kept on fighting, leading up to his death.

  • Few split seconds witch mean the difference between life and being BOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM..........Hitler showed he was idiot in Tank Warfare,,,His Generals admitted that..Thank God he was!!

  • @spacecop67 Hitler may not have alot of knowledge about tank warfare, since he was a WW1 veteran. But germans created modern tank warfare, and had way superior tanks and tactics then any other nation.

  • @ThePharaohBender germany used over 2.8 million horses more than they did in ww1. Over 4/5 ths of the wehrmacht depended on horse drawn wagons instead of motorized transport. Nothing like having the motorized part of your'e army outrunning their supplies and support and getting cockblocked by winter?

No modern army depends on horse drawn wagons or operates beyond the reach of the logistics and support . The US and UK operated fully motorized armys with supply lines over 3000 miles long. gtfoh

  • @fluffy1931 Your comment makes no sense whatsoever, I was talking about tank warfare tactics. The "Armored Spearhead" was invented by the Germans in WW2. Also keep in mind that almost all nations in Europe still had Cavalry as a fighting force, totally useless but they had it. Ofcourse no modern army depends on horse drawn wagons, hell your comparing an modern army with an 70 year old army? You missed my point and you made a fool of yourself. Cheers.

  • @ThePharaohBender what type of tank warfare dude? The german 'armored spearheads' during ww2 got how far without fuel? And having 4/5 ths of the wehrmacht dependent on horse drawn wagons meant the german 'spearheads' were constantly outrunning their fuel and support.

What good is your'e tank warfare if you operate beyond your logistical support and get cockblocked without fuel. gtfoh

  • @fluffy1931 Man you really are dumb, I think you already know how wrong you are but i also think your a troll. The german "Blitzkrieg" tactics "only" gave them almost entire Europe under their direct control. Terrible tactics huh?

  • @ThePharaohBender tactics do'nt win wars dude. without a 'strategic airforce' germanys luftwaffe got cockblocked as early as 1940' . The mere control of real estate that overextended the wehrmacht, dude? Either in the west or eastern front germany could'nt supply it's forces. Nothing like starting a world war in the 20th century without a fully motorized army and getting cockblocked on several fronts until your'e country and europe is pulverized into the stone age. awesome tactics huh? gtfoh

  • @fluffy1931 You are wrong again, and misinformed. The fronts were all well supplied, however when it came to the eastern front the MOTORIZED transports could not get the supplies to the frontline, due to harsh conditions and the roads turning into mud. The supplies existed, and was on its way but in many cases got stuck in the mud. Tactics don't win wars? It took all the other powers in the world to actually put a stop to the axis, and that with heavy losses.

  • @fluffy1931 The Luftwaffe was powerfull, but wasted to try to destroy the RAF which they almost succeded doing. I hope you are aware, that motorized troops was basicly INVENTED by the germans. They were the first army in the world to use APC's (halftracks) and to have armor divisions concentrated on armor, instead of spreading the armor thin as infantry support. You are an ignorant troll with nothing better to do then denying history. Cheers.

  • @ThePharaohBender so great was the dependence of the Nazi Blitzkrieg upon the horse .., Of the 322 German Army and SS divisions extant in Nov 1943, only 52 were armored or motorized. Of the Nov 1944 total of 264 combat divisions, only 42 were armored or motorized. The great bulk of the German combat strength-the old-type infantry divisions-marched into battle on foot, with their weapons and supply trains propelled almost entirely by four-legged horsepower.

    keep sniffing dude. gtfoh

  • @fluffy1931 Your point is what? The germans INVENTED mechanized/motorized warfare and the other followed their example. Ofcourse everything wasnt mechanized for a number of reasons 1. it was brand new 2. it takes alot of industry and money to do it for everyone 3. it requires to retrain hundred of thousands of troops. get a fucking brain you moron!

  • @ThePharaohBender ..,your'e a retard. less than a 1/5 th of germany armed forces were motorized - No the US and the UK did not follow this example .

    1) of course the US and UK had fully motorized armed forces and a supply line extending back 3000 miles to the US.

    2) germany could'nt even supply a single measely 6th Army stuck outside of Stalingrad less than half the distance.

now please put the nazi fagtard penis back into your mouth.

  • @fluffy1931 First of all, im not a Nazi. USA entered the war in Europe 1944 while Germany had motorized/mechanized divisions in the late 30s. But you are not even reading what i write, if you did you would know that the supplies for 6th Army in Stalingrad got stuck in the mud/snow plus it is easier to transport supplies by sea then land. You are clearly an american too, thanks for proving my suspicions.

  • @ThePharaohBender ..,the USAAF 8th airforce by 1943' -1944' was already bombing germany and Berlin back into the stone age and by 1944' broken the back of luftwaffe over NW europe.

The US supplied it's armed forces in both the Europe and the Pacific simultaneously while defeating the german u boat threat, and IJN .

The 6th Army got there too late and was cockblocked by winter because germany depended on horse drawn wagons that even in good weather sucked. gtfoh

  • @fluffy1931 USA defeated the u boat threat???? hmmm really

  • @mapexblack ..,my bad UK and US :(

  • @fluffy1931 id say 80% Uk

  • @ThePharaohBender think youll find the British invented mechanized warfare... the Germans perfected it

  • @ThePharaohBender Think you will find the British INVENTED mechanised warfare, the Germans just perfected and implemented it.. And at the time Great Britain was fully mechanised

  • @mapexblack Yes you are actually right, however the guy i was talking too is an asshole with little to no knowledge.

  • @ThePharaohBender been reading some of his comments... i had to bite my lip when he mentioned that the USA defeated the u boat threat.. i think he gets all his historical knowledge from hollywood.. WW2 started December 1941..

  • @mapexblack WW2 started August 30 1939, but for the americans December 1941.

  • @ThePharaohBender September my friend

  • @ThePharaohBender

don't aurgue with pukebaby, he has an obession with horses, and doesn't even realize that even if you accept his figures "on how many divisions" were "motorized" and "horse drawn", so what?, it only further proves that they served the Germans well, and that they acheived miracles with what they had, pushing the allies to the limit!

What in fact won the war for the allies was the manpower and industrial output, notwithstanding errors in tactics and strategy on both sides!

  • @konigtigertank yeah assclown. what about nuclear weapons, a strategic airforce complete with long range bombers, escort fighters. Aircraft carriers, amphibious operations? The allies fought also in the pacific theater.

now go put that nazi fagtard penis back in your arse.

  • @fluffy1931

yeah, and they still messed up the enemy big time, even in defense...

    sniff that.......

  • @konigtigertank sniff what unconditional surrender is assclown. VE-Day May 8, 1945

  • @fluffy1931

yeah, a billion ants against an elephant will win every time,,, fluff off~

    pukebaby...

  • @konigtigertank more like your a sore-loser nazi fagtard. cross swords with your butt pirate buddy and hum

    deutschland uber alles . gtfoh

  • And we will never forget the ordinary Landser and civilians, so many heroes, and no one can talk about their doing because they died with their history and buried in the dirt of the battlefield and the ruins of our cities.. But in our german hearts they stand all together in one line. Valhalla has enough place for them all.

  • The T 34 had Ultra thick sloping armour which was the key to sucess for the russians....shells bounced off it ...while the other tanks of teh time had more squarish designs easier for a shell to penetrate...its the same idea as round towers at a castle instead of Rectangular ones

  • The shear Numbers of Soviet T 34 Tanks won over the sophisticated hard to repair and costly to produce Tiger

  • a demon tank ace huh?

  • Wittman was VERY brave. I bet his fear of anti-tank guns came from that feeling that someone is watching you and you can't see them. Well concealed anti-tank positions are hard to spot from the confines of a tank. I'm glad that Wittman shared glory with his extremely talented gunner. Tank operation IS teamwork more than almost any other combat position. Great Vid Series, Thanks!

  • @randy109

+his agression in attacking massive numbers of enemy, gives hope in the hearts of his colleagues +ground troops.

  • the tiger tank ,the best tank of world war two .whit michael whitman een deadly combination .lucky there are not so many people as micheal whitman .then whe lost the war .

  • Bad mother fuckers.

  • Ohhh yeahh Michael Wittmann...the legend of legends!!! R.I.P-Great hero you are in Valhalla now

  • @Estmann111 true, great hero, there is not much heroes on ground combat as Wittmann (also Simo Häyhä sniper and without scope 500+ takeoffs and Finnish hero and anti tank commander Börje Brotell with 10 destroyed soviet tanks with Sturm III ) with his Tiger 1 ,there is even game based on him,Heroes of ww2 ,michaels war in Vilers Bogace

  • This guy sounds like a tank warfare master-balls of steel, cool nerves. We could use a few pros like him today.

  • the IS-2 Tank (Joseph Stalin) had a 122mm gun but it's muzzle velocity was low and was much better used as a moving 'artillery gun' firing HE rounds

  • whats the tank @ 2:36...its freeking gigantic...

  • @emmteez1

    su-152 a 152mm self propelled gun?

  • @infernalzen thx man :)

  • @infernalzen wittman was pretty brave when he was in a superior vehicle. But this Nazi got fucked in Normandy by anti tank guns!

  • @thar777 no he raised his total of antitank gun kills from aprox. 110 to 132 when he was in normandy. he was killed from a side shot from a sherman fierfly that was just a regular sherman just with a 17pdr.

  • @Rebellion1718 its deabatable the sherman firefly regiment was over 1500 yards away there was a canadian regiment almost 500yards aways they rekon now it was a canadian, all canadian records where lost as there command half trak was hit and destroyed by the united states air force(well they would wouldnt they)and all records were lost

  • @MrRuffnecks

thought there were still canadians alive who took part in the attack.

+the british gunner now says he shot 3x tigers +accepts that wittmann probably wasnt one of them.

  • @infernalzen

    Yes!

  • @emmteez1 js2

  • @emmteez1 No. Its a josef stalin tank... big ass tank ye.

  • @emmteez1

The tank seen from 2:32 to 2:37 is an IS-2 tank, equipped with a 122mm gun.

The vehicle seen from 2:40 tot 2:42 seems to be an ISU-152 assault gun

  • @emmteez1 KB 1?

  • @emmteez1 lol thats just a t34 but the guy walking behind is further away from the tank than the camera makes it out to be

  • @spiderman1321 hehe nah i figured it out its a Joseph Stalin 1 tank..they are huge. Google it. :)

  • @emmteez1 The tank at 2:35 - 2:36 is a Soviet IS2 model 1943 heavy tank with a 122mm A-19 gun

  • @emmteez1 it´s russian IS 2

  • @emmteez1 it´s russian IS 2

  • @emmteez1 its a jospeh stalin 1

  • HEIL MICHAEL WITTMAN HERO'S WAR !!

  • It completely agree!

  • Has not absolutely understood about what speech, but I consider, that the German industry at that time was on the ball technical progress. And how we, Russian, and you, allies, could win this power, till now I do not understand? It is simple a miracle!

P.S.Zaranee I apologise, use the translator. Discrepancies are possible!

  • Lucky Russians that Hans-Ulrich Rudel was not also involved in the battel of Kursk. With his cannon Stuka he could have turned the tide of the operation citadel.

  • Not only speed and the inclined reservation of advantage Т-34/85, but as simplicity and reliability of a design! That you will not tell concerning German tanks. And still the diesel engine was big plus of the Soviet tanks. Which more hardy and less fire-dangerous in comparison with petrol engines of German tanks.

  • @alexnw4171

The German Industry was atypically in bed w/ the American Industry. The oil/petrol/gas companies, especially the Standard Oil company, of the U.S. reaped huge profits in dealings w/ Nazi Germany thru/out the war until the very end.

  • @alexnw4171

That's why although the Germans, when it came to strategy & tech were the brains of the world at the time, they hampered their efforts by political & business dealings. Diesal engines are more safe than gas-petrol & diesal is more efficient in terms of consumption-thrust ratio. You would think the Germans would catch on but as always the progression of technology is thrwarted by money.
