Maiden wins the war, and several battles. Metallica kinda went soft after the black, and maiden stayed strong. Not just enhancing their sound, but not getting into the radio and top 40 sham. They kept it straight and narrow,and there for, Maiden Wins. Anyway, Maiden is awesome live..those 900 yr old dudes do not take breaks at all.it is awesome to see them

I am Maiden's fun., but even I can say with an open mind that ride the lightning is better then pice of mind. but no better then the number of the beast and powerslave.
I hate to say this, but Metallica wins this round. "Ride The Lightning" destroys just about all of Maiden's discography (except for "The Number Of The Beast" and maybe "Powerslave"). Unfortunately, Metallica only wins the battle and not the war because Maiden is still my favorite band and always will be.

Lets be honest here, The Trooper is the only good song on Piece of Mind. Fade to black, for whom the bell tolls, creeping death, trapped under ice, call of the ktulu, ride the lightning are all good songs on Ride the Lightning. Metallica beats Iron Maiden.
I personally think that preceding bands like AC/DC and Iron Maiden will always be better than the bands they influenced, like AC/DC and Guns or Maiden and Metallica, but they are really good bands, so really just listen and enjoy. All the bands who see videos like these shake their heads at some of the ignorant things their fans say.

you also have to remember that iron maiden had released 3 albums before this, and metallica had released like 1 (not sure about metallicas albums) but anyway iron maiden had more experience in writing songs, in actually playing the instrument, and recording... hence the reason why i think iron maiden is better in general...

SO just to finish this, Metallica's first five albums do represent and mean a long personal possession to when I was growing up to music when I had first started with them and Slayer. Slayer, being the most important. So Ride has my vote, but ironically I'm listening to Powerslave. I think aswell personally, that when Ride was released in 1984 it was the most explosive and 'heaviest' sounding onslaught that metal ever had at that time. But I STILL need to listen to ALOT more NWOBHM too.

@Malckeor Agreed, some people, including me, will lean to one side based on the type. I lean towards power metal and clean vocals rather than Thrash. Iron Maiden are said to have influenced the power metal genre, and metallica the thrash metal. Which is why I'd go for maiden, priest, helloween, gamma ray, etc over metallica anyday.

@PossessedDonutz Not true. Maiden's 80's albums with Bruce Dickinson were extremely popular - they were all selling in the millions. Please note that the last album most Metallica fans view as a classic, And Justice for All, was released in 1988, the same year Iron Maiden's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son was released.
