  • What are you using for a cartridge > amp> loudspeaker setup? Sounds beautiful!

  • Thanks for saying. I have it connected to a Yamaha Receiver V2090 and a Yamaha Sub YST-SW200. The sound is really good and I didn't even adjust the receiver for this type of music. Yamaha equipment helps a great deal for good sound but that Linn Sondek will sound almost as good with the old 1994 computer speakers. :-) Thanks again.

  • The drivebelts for all the LP12 are all the same or there is a unique for eachone?

  • One more question...All the LP12 drivebelt are suitable on every LP12 or it depends on the model? Can I buy one if its only says LP12 drivebelt?

  • Haha, I've never seen the drop test before. I'll have to try that on my 1989 LP12.

Re the speed adapter, I seem to remember being advised to get a second belt for 45rpm on the basis that the belt will stretch to fit the pulley and so be a little loose for 33rpm use.

The LP12 was a great deck, it might still be but I've not heard other good decks for a long time. The Elite Rock and Pink Triangle ran it close when I got mine, and I wouldn't criticize anybody for preferring one of the alternatives.

  • does anyone knows if that turntable can play in 45rpm?

  • @voodoo86wr Yes it can, it needs a pulley adapter which works well enough.

  • The best TT at one time---it has been eclipsed by many products as far back as the 80s. Not to take away from the Linn which can still hold it's own. But the cultish Linn-Naim syndrom rampant back in the 80s was quite delusional.

  • I thought the LP12 was a copy of the Thorens TD150 they certainly are nearly Identical when dismantled, they both have a cheap pressed steel sub-chassis and smallish main bearing with the lightweight two piece platter. The more expensive Thorens ie. TD124, TD125 models had better chassis and better quality bearings than LP12 or TD160 and are noticeably more transparent and musical, along with so many otherturntables old and new, even a properly set up Garrard 301 beats an LP12 sonically.

  • @cannissolis I think it is overrated as well. Also, what Linn is charging for the myriad of upgrades borders on the obscene.

  • @cannissolis

Thanks for the insight and tips!

  • Perhaps not the best table out there, but what this table can do depends heavily on associated cartridge, setup and upgrades. Fully decked out (no pun intended) It still tops the list in many of the German Hifi magazines.

  • Very nice rig man!!!

  • The Linn is a turntable that makes everything you play on it musical. The Grace g707 arm is also a great arm. I have a Sondek and had a Grace on an Ariston deck years ago that was agreat deck also.

  • Probably the worse turntable ever made! The suspension on this thing is a joke. A hodge bodge mix of copied and stolen ideas! Take a lump of wood, stick a platter in it and attach a rubber band, Then keep selling it to idiots at a hiked up price for 40 yrs!

  • @mertonparka the worse ever? Then try to find old russian turntable. Hopefully you will not get yourself electrecuted.

  • @mertonparka In comparison to what? Ideas stolen from where? Have you ever heard an LP12? I can think of loads of lesser turntables.. Decca, Technics, BSR, Funk, Ariston etc. All good turntables in their own right but not as transparent as an LP12 in my opinion.

  • @Blenkinsop999 Stolen ideas from Ariston and the RD11!!!!

  • @mertonparka Thank you for pointing this out. The first Linn was almost a clone of the original RD11 resulting in a lawsuit by Ariston that Linn unfortunately won. Linn claimed better attention to details and superior machining of parts--but Ariston claimed just the opposite. The AR, Thorens and ERA models came first, but Ariston vastly improved on them and is responsible for Linn's success.

  • @mertonparka well said!

  • Linn Sondek LP12.. whatever is not even close to a REALLY GOOD turntable. So the best ever made is.. just bah.

  • Let's see, a high end turntable that accepts a high end precision tone arm of your choice: "not even close to a REALLY GOOD turntable" What's wrong with this picture?

  • @wodrummerworld

Just check the facts. How it's build etc. and in the meantime check my TT.

  • o.k. nm my other comment/too wordy thankx!

  • If it was the best turntable ever made why are you selling it?
