Its a bummer, these guys never got to tour with this album after its release, not sure if morrison would have been up to it though, he seemed one tired soul even at this point. R.I.P Jimbo.
Anybody know if there is a recording of Riders on the Storm done live in Dallas? I know they only performed it once live and it was one of the two shows in Dallas. If so please let me know. I would enjoy hearing that. Anyway these are great posts. Love listening to these later shows in their career.
We've started a youtube channel to promote new rock music. On every music-related video you can read about how people are sick of the "computer generated bullshit" they hear on the radio. There's change in the air, and we want to get it started right away. Our plan is to gain subscribers, and then have bands sending us their demos. The music industry can only take auto-tune and synthesizers for so long before a new wave of rock music bursts out.
there has to be more cleared up versions, but I realize this is a really rare concert and very sought after considering The Doors are performing music from LA Woman.
I was at this concert in Dallas december 1970. This was Morrison's last complete concert...he was in New Orleans next, but passed out after one or two songs. Then on to France and you know the rest...Great concert though!
Alot of these songs werent even on an album yet when he performed them, like this one. I guess they played them at concerts first to test if thier good enough songs to sell on an album.
Doesnt sound like there is much enthusiasm from Morrison here, I would imagine his best concert performing days were behind him, sad to actually listen to this, in comparison to Morrison in his prime in 68
@Rusty0555 yes and lets not forget that morrison probably knew the end was coming up for him some of his LA woman songs sound that way to me he just sounded so very tired here and not to mention he was scared about the miami trial and he was still drinking a lot here and whoever recorded this was a crappy engineer and i dont think this was done by bruce botnik
when I got LA Woman this was my favorite song, and cars hiss by my window...back when I knew nothing about the doors... LAmerica? wow...they're pretty special
The Music never suffered. The last album had a different style, but it was bad-ass! It was the In your face blues. Thats what Jim wanted, he grew that beard out and just let the blues come out. . People say he got fat, but if you watch the PBS show, in which he has the big beard he was still skinny as always, just his face looks bigger cause of the beard.Live, Jim would sometimes be wild and drunk, but people forget it was only sometimes. 95% of the time, he shared his great talent and feel.
I just love JM's voice as it got more so called 'whiskey soaked'. 'Changing' is just so understated, its becoming for me, one of the most enjoyable voices i can listen to. A f*cking brilliant studio voice - so rich, full, throaty and bluesy. A great direction they were heading towards with L.A. Woman, we can only dream of what was gonna come. However , such is life, some come and go quickly, famous or not, this guy did 'alright'... well done lad!
Morrison set the the tone for most of The Doors songs & sound. If he was down & feeling blue, that's what you got & that was the case the last couple years of his life. I think he was a depressed person, maybe even bipolar & therfore self medicated. Morrison never sold out though. He saw the future of corporate, arena rock & wanted no part of it.
The original, bad boy of rock! Hell he invented the image....and L.A Woman, was the perfect way to end his drunken amazing soul, a rock/blues album that will never be touched ....btw all the Doors where bad ass...opened up for Robby one night, one shy, but cool amazing cat..
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING THIS TRACK!!! A great live clip of Jim & the boys late in their career's. Jim sounds good but sadly he wouldn't be with us for much longer after this recording :(
Long live The Doors & their music & long live the Lizard King :) ;)
this song was a declaration of freedom for morrison... it came after miami & was telling the media, phony fans, the detractors & the law that he was one step ahead of u if u tried to chain him down... by this time he was 56 in a 26 yr old body in re to experience... but he would fight & go out on his own terms. the lords & creatures would not eat his soul... so sad this unique eye faded to the loam less the a year later in paris.
this insinuated assumption of the meaning of lords and new creatures you use illustrates it rightly. JImbo was telling the world to be free to be artists to wake up. Artistry is a new religion, where everyone's an artist impersonating their life
Hey man, Jim was dead on his feet on at 3:00 am at the circus club, seven months later. He's sounds like he's still breathing, although he's mocking christ
I wish that except the bootleg there were available encore tracks they did in Dallas. I've heard that these were 'Light My Fire' and also premiere version of 'Riders On The Storm'!
Yup this was a bootleg, I've got a copy of it. Not good sound quality. By all accounts this was an excellent concert. The next night was a disaster in New Orleans. I don't think there's any bootlegs of the final concert.

@SpyridonKaprinis well you know the doors did "steal"(as they call it) ideas from others
break on through has: paul butterfield blues band shake your money maker as guitar inspiration, ray charles what i'd say for bass line
bossa nova drum beat from brazil
when the music's over: herbie hancock's watermelon man
hyacinth house organ solo: chopin's polonaise in Ab maj
light my fire: soloing coltrane's cover of my fav things
etc etc
