You're right, content like this needs to move slower than photos, because there's so much to take in all at once. I could look at these Allen Chester paintings for days.
Exactly. But then one can always pause videos, and I think the draw of wanting to see it again, better, more, can be very appealing. It's a balance of some sort, an art in itself...
Yes, isn't it? Would liking that one imply you were in need of therapy then? Seriously, I find dark imagery equally beautiful as lighter work, maybe more so. I sometimes find far more honesty and integrity in the dark.
Our "dark side" can be far more honest than the "light side" facade we have to put on in "polite company." There's a TV show called "HOUSE" starring Hugh Lauire (formerly of "Blackadder" & "Jeeves & Wooster" fame) wherein he plays Dr. Gregory House, a cynical medical genius, who heads a team of diagnosticians. I love his no nonsense approach, his brutal honesty & his cutting analysis of human foibles & the games people play. He's a total ass, but he has no illusions. Yes, I need therapy.
Allen asked me to tell you this: 'the painting I call Nautilus is a reflection of the Mona Lisa Giocondo...you see the background landscape I paint is the Mona Lisa Giocondo background in reverse.....of Leonardo...not many see this...your friend has a fine eye....'
Yes, Nautilus is the one. I think my favorites are the ones with the ravens and the ones with the characters animated by cosmic light. Thank Allen for this Amazingly inspired work.
So many influences, but the paint that leaves the brush was his. A certain style that many enjoy in actuality im sure another great artist will find great relevance in affection, and even those not so great will capture something else.
personally i dont care for these pictures at all. They seem to be rather limited in character ( by character i mean the crenellated patterns and warped faces)
not my cup of tea at all. ( Grotesque art, its anti-art for me)
Of course, we all have personal tastes in art, however:

Beautiful!

I first read his name as "Alien Chester..."
His visions are quite dark yet hopeful, and I see why you admire his work...

If I can find some good music for it, I have a collection from AVA, that might make a good video response to this?

Please, do. I'd like that.

Excellent edited introduction to Allen Chester's work - impressively symbolic. (Thanks too for the URLs, for music sharing websites.)
dashpoet 3 years ago
It's dripping with symbolism isn't it? And you're welcome. It took a bit of trawling. I think there are quite a lot out there, no doubt will be more.

This is wonderful! The music fits the images so perfectly. Allen Chester rocks my world!

Interesting tension between religious imagery and imagery involving skulls and the likes. BTW, at 0:42 - is that Isaac Newton!? O_o
rozeboosje 3 years ago
I agree. Also the interweaving of all things natural. You'd have to ask him if the personage in question is Isaac Newton. lol
Loreleila 3 years ago
This would have been great in HD. What am I saying!? it was great anyway!

You can watch it in HD, which is why I suggest you do in the sidebar. :P I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Intense, disturbing and alchemical. That last image was my favorite. I wonder why.... Maybe I need some time on the couch, eh?

I haven't seen it, but know him. A talented man. I prefer brutal honesty myself. Maybe you do need therapy, but not because of that.

pretty dark stuff.not the kind of stuff i like, but it is proper art rather than some of the shite people call art now.xxx

Interesting art. I agree with Serge, the aesthetic reminds me of Tarots with all those vague archetypes. And the soundtrack works really well. *****
