  • professor S DasGupta you rock .......can u teach my prof how to teach ....

  • Thanks professor, this is very good revision material.

  • Thanks professor ......and IIT this lecture is very helpful to strengthen one's basics on biochemistry.........

  • explain me one thing plzzzz how do we get that kyte doolittle scale wat is the basis of that ......how we knw some residues are 4.0 or-2.6 or something then after that we can only determine the regions

  • @kuhu0

For an exam that doesn't provide one of these tables, you should be assuming that if a side chain is able to form hydrogen bonds (because it has a N or a O), it is hydrophilic and will have a negative value. If it is only constituants are C and H, it will not make hydrogen bonds and will therefore be hydrophobic, giving it a positive value on the Kyte-Doolittle scale.

  • Very good lecture, I understood clearly what the torsion angles mean and the different classification of structure. However, can someone please explain if the disulfide bond is treated as a covalent bond? I'm a little confused because at 44:00, Prof. mentions that covalent bonds are not involved in determining the secondary and tertiary structure and that only hydrogen bonds play the role in folding. However at 48:00, she mentions an example of disupfide linkage causing tertiary folds.

  • First I told myself, how can Proff. Dasgupta teach so well and use power point, projector, and mike to teach? Then I saw that she is part of IIT (this alone answered all my questions).

  • Does her lectures cover fully of medical biochemistry? coz I'm a med student. please answer someone? thanks

  • yeah almost everything important

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! I DIDNT KNOW HOW I WOULD PASS MY BIO EXAM TILL NOW!

  • 4 people have aids!

  • I am in year 11 and i dont understand any of this, when do you do this sort of work? I am a little worried that i might not be able to understand any of these once i do it...

  • @Lightestin If your only in year 11 its not possible that you will understand any of this yet. Don't jump ahead of yourself here, you will learn and understand all this in time

  • @Lightestin

Just to give you some encouragement, there was a standard 6 student taking standard 12 math (Calculus and advance functions) and he had an average of 99% in the class. And not just that, he is in University of Waterloo and in the 'Faculty of Math' at present (And he is in second year). I know this because I am in University of Waterloo too.

  • Nice video! French professors don't teach as clearly as indian teachers in some subjects!!

  • perfect!

  • Thank you! Biology is now much easier...i was soo worried!

  • Thank you! Biology is now much easier...i was soo worried!

  • These videos are so great I can understand and follow. this is much better than any class i have taken

  • thanks you mam ... i really thanks u now....

  • The human looks like a protein strand in a skull. Which one would it be:)

  • I don't recall the exact material over which I wrote the original post but it felt detailed even when compared to a biochem book used in med schools -- "Lippincott's Biochemistry". I guess it's good for conceptual understanding.

  • thanks for making these lectures available on the net i wish i could download them n brong them in class for teaching

  • God bless prof Dasgupta! awesome prof!!!

  • still thanks though :)

  • too detailed... for those in the states.. unless you are doing a bachelor's in biochem... this is too condensed for pre-med or introductory courses.

  • speak for yourself there rodeo, this is the same introductory level of detail that pre med and biology students take as undergrads at any credible state university in the US...all you need to understand this is basic intro chemistry

  • @rodeo179 No way. I am in my last year of high school (UK) and this is very much around the level at which they teach us before we go off to study at university, these are very good introductions to medical biochemistry which are currently acting as fantastic introductory lectures before I start medical school in September.

Definitely not too detailed at all...

Out of interest, what do you find so detailed and complex about it?

  • @youknowhow123 Apparently, the level of education is different. In US high schools, the only biochem exposure is a chapter or two in a regular biology book. But then again, here people don't generally start medical school after high school -- college pre-med courses are required. Even in pre-med, biochem receives little attention unless one is taking a separate course on biochemistry.

  • I love you... im so happy i found this

  • Thank you. I continue my studies and this lecture series is a very nice way back to the basics.

  • thanks for the lecture~~ I really appreciate it

  • these lectures are awesome.. thanks 4 uploading

  • Thank-you, Prof. S Dasgupta, for giving me an opportunity to understand biochemistry. I just finished listening to lecture 2. I find you to be very intelligent in biochemistry. I took the course but did not understand it in full details like the way I am taking my time to learn the information. May God continue to bless and guide you.

  • the lectures are really amazing for science students

    thirumurthy.

  • This whole series of lectures is really good. She is so clear and the lectures are in a terminology that is easy to understand. Great stuff

  • wow...shes soo CLEAR! thanks thanks...i have a midterm in 3 more days...im not reading the book~ just watching this :]

  • This lectures are helping me a lot. I'm taking Medicine course and i'm having exams next week. This is such a good way to summarize everything and to even learn new things. Thanks for uploading!

  • I don't even take the course, but this is helping me alot!

    Thanks :)

  • great lecture

thanks for uploading and the lecture is very competent

  • these are awesome, taking the course rite now, find them very useful!

  • Wow great teacher, very clear and consise.

    HI, USA

  • great lecture

  • Thank you, Prof.S.Dasgupta, for this highly informative and well-articulated lecture series on amino acids and protein structure. They have been helpful in my study of Biochemistry. David, CA, USA.
