As much as this is a cultural difference, more so, this is an economic difference. In most developing nations (like India, Brazil, Argentina etc.) bargaining is part of day to day life. Corporate consumerism is more prevalent in western cultures, where prices are standardized by economic variables. Hence the question of bargain doesn't arise. The young global Indian doesn't wish to bargain if the price is right.
In America we may initially offer the best deal to someone we know- so the other party won't have to negotiate! However, when I as an American behaved this way with some Indians (I knew) they tried to bargain me down. So the lesson learnt was to offer at a higher price, then they will bargain me down. Then I will get the price I want- I will sell something and they will also feel they get a good deal. Thanks for sharing that.
