artifacting can be caused by image compression algorithms, ie, when imagery is compressed reduce data size? latest googleEarth v.6 allows looking at historical data ... is the underwater 'artifacting' consistent over several datasets of the same area

This is a common problem in satellite imaging called 'lens resonance feedback' and happens not just in lakes but also in mountain shadows, smooth surfaces and dark areas. If you search Google Earth and Maps long enough, you will find thousands of places with the same patterns... check the 5 other online satellite map services (Google Earth/Maps is not the only one).

Sorry, but all you see here are digital artifacts caused by LFR.

@alaskaracer ... Given the right lighting conditions, a digital camera can actually capture parts of the sensor circuit reflecting off the specially coated glass at the rear of the lens aperture inside the camera.

I find it interesting that these patterns are mostly found where there are high levels of the color cyan.

Pode apostar que não é!! Eu analisei fotos de vários lagos nos Andes, com a mesma tonalidade da água e em outras partes do mundo. Esses padrões só aparecem nos lagos em torno do Titicaca, que segundo os relatos dos peruanos descendentes dos Incas, é um lago "sagrado" onde os "deuses das estrelas'' escondem antigos segredos. Supostamente existe um complexo de bases subterrâneas ligando as montanhas e os lagos da região.

Com certeza, mas eu analisei vários lagos no perímetro do Titicaca... não tão distantes uns dos outros e c/ a mesma qualidade de imagem e essas estruturas aparecem no fundo de alguns mas não não todos. Eu tbm estava considerando a possibilidade dos padrões retangulares serem erro de imagem, mas eu achei outro lago c/ uma estrutura circular c/ um buraco no meio, como um duto gigante. Eu estou fazendo o video e devo postar em breve.

Looks like... artifacts... when calculating memory optimization for images, or recalculating data from a CCD... the pattern reminds of the behavior of an algorithm like jpeg compression or low resulution enhancement.

It seems not to be anything exciting... except the fact that Google Earth isn't an appropriate tool to find irregularity, in most cases.

The ruins up in the Andes in Peru and Bolivia are just amazing. The most amazing ruin is in Bolivia, where the stones are as big as apartment buildings and the lines are all laser straight.
