Hey buddy - good concepts and ideas, but you seems pretty anxious and like it's forced. And someone with SA, would be freaking out, this would be considered "exposure therapy" which doesn't work well alone for overcoming social anxiety. CBT does work the best of all therapies thus far. No one who is socially normally would jump in somebody with a forced positive vibe. Very pickup-y I'm sorry to say. I would never recommend doing that. Take this from someone who has overcome SA.
@ddhamilt I think I might jump into somebody if they really interested me however likely I felt I'd screw it up. Starting a conversation cold seems... I don't know if it would ever work for me. I'm not the sort of happy chappy with the light compliments on the tip of my tongue. It just seems... If that were the only sort of conversations I ever had, I'm not sure if I would rather not. Perhaps this is what people with SA generally convince themselves... Who knows.
@fredbloggs02 Believe me, no one who is socially normal does this. Don't compare yourself to this video, he is going way to the extreme here and it's not natural to go jumping in front of people like a rabbit and giving them compliments. I'm almost certain he did pickup stuff, which I did in the past as well. It is needy and it doesn't work. You can tell he's nervous and it's not just the camera. I used to do this kind of thing, and it's just annoying and weird socially to people.
@ddhamilt Perhaps not socially normal, but definitely socially free! I agree with you that people should not compare themselves to me but focus on turning up the volume of their own communication to a point where they don't feel suppressed.
@YourCharismaCoach Ok fair enough. I'm down with social freedom. Just want to make the point people don't NEED to do that, like one of the comments below, possibly could be discouraging to them, that's all.
@ddhamilt Good point. I'd actually like to address the topic of social anxiety in future, in a lot more detail. What do you think would make a useful video that would be helpful to people?
@YourCharismaCoach Well check out my channel for ideas if you'd like - as someone who overcame SA with cognitive behavioral therapy, I talk a lot about changing beliefs (cognitive) for this. What I've found is CBT is very effective in overcoming in the sense of managing anxiety. Right now I"m in the process of trying to be totally free of it using something called BSFF (Be Set Free Fast) - an energy psychology technique. I'm experimenting on myself so I will see!
A conversation is like Quantum Mechanics. You start your conversations in chaos otherwise known as a wave function and once that conversation is observed, which can otherwise be thought of as started, the wave function collapses the conversation finds either momentum or position, depending on what you're 'observing', which I find to be metaphorical for a conversation.
If you're looking for people with SA, I may well be able to help you out.
Oh, and we've emailed each other before now but things have got really hectic in my life so long time getting back to people. Mainly due to exploding laptops too :) It's Marty Drury writing this.
hey buddy why dont u bring some one who has social phobia and then u guide him how to cover phobia in real situation. i.e 1st he tries to communicate than u guide him that this was wring in ur comm. than he try again.........
@MegaTruthseeker101 Great idea! A lot of my coaching focuses on doing this. Need to work out how I can convey that it 10 mins though. Also need to find someone who is happy to be filmed that also has social anxiety (tricky...) but I'll work on it. Thanks for the idea!
This is VERY GOOD Dude i subbed sub back! , whats the worse that could happen i guess haha love ya scarf. bit was jokes..London all the way matey !!! ; )
@RosyJuneDoll I'll make some videos/exercises about this subject, which is very pertinent to what we are doing here. I worked hard to get over the fear of being disliked (which no-one enjoys). I realised that no matter what you do, there is always someone isn't going to take a shine to you (Ghandi and Mother Teresa had critics). All you can do is do your best, love them and aim to leave them better than you found them. Then you know that you did everything you could and don't have to feel bad!
@RosyJuneDoll Fair point! I'll post up some hidden camera stuff, if that will help (see ep. 3 and 4 for examples). Another idea might be for me to attach a mini camera to my lapel. Any ideas? i'll try anything ;)
