Man I remember the first time I listened to this cd. I bought it not knowing if it was any good.. I hadn't thought Testament put out a decent album in a long while. I was on a flight to go to Mardi Gras in 2001, put on the ole cd player, kept turning up the sound at the start, then BooooM!! Testament was on the plane! This cd really gave me an adrenalin rush.. And I think it was due to the drumming.. damnedest sound ever!

Yes, I know Bostaph wasnt with them IN '99. It was Lombardo.. Do you have a good video of Bostaph? Made be its the sound guy but sounds like simple drumming to me. Mark Workman was the manager/sound guy in '99.

Any thing Lombardo has played, Paul has followed it 100% and maybe more. Even Tom from Slayer said that he was just as good, if not better than Lombardo. Both are awesome drummers, and both are probably at the same level of skill on drums.

I am just an observer. Thrash is 80s music. The only thrash that's good is the thrash elements incorporated in other genres. And no, death metal (all of it's sub-genres) is not going to be obsolete. Yes, I know Bostaph wasnt with them IN '99. It was Lombardo.. Do you have a good video of Bostaph? Made be its the sound guy but sounds like simple drumming to me. Mark Workman was the manager/sound guy in '99.

Any thing Lombardo has played, Paul has followed it 100% and maybe more. Even Tom from Slayer said that he was just as good, if not better than Lombardo. Both are awesome drummers, and both are probably at the same level of skill on drums.

Death metal evolves constantly. So, yeah... It's new. I just described you a typical thrash song structure and you want more explanations? You can't go far with thrash. It's very limited and obsolete. It's funny to hear that death metal is nothing new by someone who mainly listens to thrash. And yes, I've been playing guitar the last 7-8 years. So, since I can play slayer with ease and didn't even dare to touch cannibal corpse's latest shit for example, I'd say death is superior.

I am just an observer. Thrash is 80s music. The only thrash that's good is the thrash elements incorporated in other genres. And no, death metal (all of it's sub-genres) is not going to be obsolete. As I said, death metal evolves constantly. Thrash wouldn't exist without british heavy metal and early black metal. That's a fact. Death metal musicians aren't only influenced by thrash though. The first metal bands were heavy metal bands. Nowadays, you don't have to listen to thrash.

However Testament are one of the few thrash bands who i feel were WAY ahead of their time. THis type of metal is one of the best for me as it's got an old school feel, with a more modern sound. In what way does thrash use riffs in a more complex way?? :S It's like, fast alternate picking, some chords in between, maybe a breakdown, probably a shitty solo and gay vocals. Also, thrash=fast, so you just proved your point about speed wrong. I agree with you though, it's how you use riffs. Death metal features a more unique way of using riffs, so we all agree. Death metal is superior and actually heavy.
