yufukyufuk, you have a point here. The Safavids were Turkic (not Turkish), i.e. Turks from Central Asia, as opposed to Ottoman Turks who came from the Mongolian Altai region to Anatolia. Central Asian Turks who form numerous ethnic and linguistic groups were culturally different from Ottoman Turks and more integral to Iranian traditions than the latter.

With regard to Abu Ali Sina (Ibn Sina or Avisena), he was born in 980AD in Afshana which was then in the Iranian province of Tajikistan. He was Persian and Persian-speaking, Maulana (aka Rumi or Mevlana) was born in Balkh, the Iranian province of Khorasan) in the 13C AD; he was also a Persian and Persian-speaking. Later he and his father moved to Konia where, avoiding the Mongol invasion of Central Asia, they lived for the rest of their lives.

THE QAJARS and their SHIA fundementalism brought alot of ill will to PERSIAN - their culture - their language - something which continues to this day. I hope the day comes when the SHIA coonotation for PERSIA and IRAN is errased - and that it be known for something more universal - especially to its neighbours. It is the one thing that caused the TURKISATION of ANATOLIA and also what reduced old Khurasan and Iran to what we see Iran as today. Not good at all.
