556=two 555s in one package, 14 pin IIRC; I think everything was separate except the power and ground pins.

anyway whats involved in making them? what kinda inputs and outputs can u add? any switches and such other than knobs?

556 Timer, some passive components, 2 pots, you can add a kill switch, which I did, and I also built a filter circuit out of a couple transistors n passives, I just have it on a breadboard right now... you could replace the knobs with light sensors (CDS cells) and control the oscillators by waving your hands around, less control, but wackier variations, peace!
