  • saddlebreds don't have shoes that make them "soar." we don't do that to the horses in our barn and i don't think that any saddlebred people do anything like that because that is not the look that we want.

  • stupid event. who trained his horse with such unnatural gait and takes so extremely tight rein, has no idea about horses and riding ! :(

  • @peacelovesaddlebred....your comments are ill informed and contain a lot of bad spelling, I don't think you are very intelligent. Nothing illegal is put on saddlebreds feet. I know because I shoe saddlebred and morgan show horses, their natural action is enhanced with pads and shoes there is nothing illegal about this. Soring is a Tennessee walking horse thing: they use substances as short cuts to create the desirable look when they gait them, the difference is they dont have to trot sound

  • What I'd like to know is why you "three gaited Saddlebred" is racking at the beginning of your clip?

I'm going to take a risk by getting in the middle of this soreing debate. I've never seen anyone get anywhere but a tired, depressed, dispirited horse by soreing. No one can move quickly or well on sore feet. That said, the amount of weight put on their feet makes them move unnaturally. Give me a flat shod horse any day. I like their movement better.

  • @userunavailable3095 I'd also like to add that I'm not a big fan of putting a half-broke horse who has rarely been out of doors into the ring to make them look "bright." A spooked, terrified horse who is being barely kept under control isn't beautiful to me. I'd far rather we went back to the standard of the horse being perfectly broken, never puts a foot wrong and is confident and well broke, even if it means you can't see the whites of their eyes, and their nostrils and ears are at rest.

  • @userunavailable3095 We have destroyed so much of what is good with so many breeds by chasing fashion. We've bred epilepsy, bad temper and hip dysplasia into lovely dog breeds along with the color and ears we wanted. We've bred scoliosis into Saddlebreds along with high head carriage and high action. We've bred fainting into Quarter Horses along with tremendous muscle. Why can't we just stick to a standard of soundness, function and breed characteristics, instead of chasing fashion?

  • @userunavailable3095 My point is that if you want a Hackney Horse, buy a Hackney. Please don't try to turn your Saddlebred into a Hackney. If you want a Saddlebred, please, buy a Saddlebred. Don't try to make Morgans and Belgians into Saddlebreds. If you want a Belgian, buy a Belgian, don't try to turn Quarter Horses into Belgians. Trying to make a breed into something it isn't is not "improving" the breed. It is destroying it. Buy the horse you like, and leave the others alone.

  • @userunavailable3095 I agree :) Let's let them carry their heads high and have high leg action in moderation, not to the point of excess.

  • @userunavailable3095 saddlebreds are not "terrified" when they show. they honestly and truly love it. it is was they were born to do!

  • @dashpony1048 I have had Saddlebreds. I am currently working with Saddlebreds. I have friends who are professional Saddlebred trainers. I have watched William Shatner get tossed over a gate by one of those Saddlebreds. I stand by my comment. You are correct that a well trained Saddlebred loves what they do. Many Saddlebreds are not well trained.

  • @userunavailable3095 i guess that i don't really know why you would currently work with saddlebreds if you appear to think that they are not a great breed. true, there are trainers out there that are not great, but is that the horses' faults? and honestly, horses are dangerous animals. you take a risk every time you get on one. they are bigger and stronger than you and unpredictable.

  • @dashpony1048 Did anything I said even vaguely resemble me saying that I didn't think they were a great breed? I said I think they often aren't trained well, and that people want to turn other breeds into Saddlebreds instead of just buying a Saddlebred. If I didn't think they were a great breed, why would I have handled them enough to know something about them?

  • "Soaring" is what eagles do. I don't SORE my show horse, kiddos! Don't know anyone who does.

  • wow look at all the 3gaited horses!

  • I use to love riding saddleseat or driving saddlebreds. i've definitely lost interest for now but i do love the breed itself :) my mare is a saddlebred and is not saddleseat

  • Soring is done on Tennessee Walkers all the time. That's why they throw their feet out so far in front of them----their feet are sore from chemicals, etc. I didn't think that was ever done on Saddlebreds, hoping (perhaps in vain) that our beloved Saddlebreds would never be treated so badly. I hope I'm not wrong!

  • I hav ridden for 7 years... since i was 5 and will tell you there is nothing we do to soar the horses feet... so get ur facts straight n if you dont like them so much dont comment

  • dont want to be mean but i ride saddlbreds and qwnn a world champion, i specilize in saddlebreds. and i can tell you they put something to make the horses soar, that means that they put something illegal on their horses feet and that makes them pick their feet up higher!

  • Ummm...who do you ride for then because nothing goes into my horses feet but nails to hold his shoes on. I have been riding AS's my whole life and I don't know anyone who pulls illege stuff.

  • @PeaceLoveSaddlebred

Any animal who's feet are soar would be lame and would not be able to perform or move. Logic ?

  • @wayupian some walking horse people do the exact same thing.. and i know it doesnt make sense but they do it whether you think it makes sense or not

  • really? hmm..never thought of that!

  • @PeaceLoveSaddlebred So do I but I've never heard of it..... soooo mabey u do that but most dont

  • creepy

  • i agree!!! :) saddlebreds are the best!

  • that's so cool that ya'll do saddlebreds down there!
