Fuck you, Heath Ledger was good but no one touches Mark Hamill. The problem with The Dark Knight is that Nolan had issues differentiating whether or not he wanted it to be a COMIC BOOK film or a GRAPHIC NOVEL film.

And in the end, the Batman graphic novels (by Alan Moore and such) will always act as more of a "parody"- sort of like Wicked to Oz- great, but not the canon universe.

All each of the (AMAZING) actors did over the years was graze the surface of Joker - like blind men describing an elephant. He's not supposed to be definable. No one will ever get him perfect, they're not supposed to. Also, Hamill provided a great deal of visual reference for BTAS Joker - he was filmed and the animators used his acting as reference.
