  • Great work with the camera dude. Great footage.

  • engine wasn't full power..... was prop fined out? mixture right? over max weight?

  • WAS THE GUY FLYING THE AIRCRAFT A PILOT

  • Try to push the throttle next time. On the right side.

  • Someone doesn't like you.

  • yea those beavers are beasts

  • :O

  • any 1 hurt

  • Lame

  • He never even pushed the nose over when he was on step! he couldn't tell wtf he was going!!! completely pilot error.

  • aaliyah was in that plane!

  • damn and all that fuckin water lol

  • lol

  • That's fucking insane

  • GROUND EFFECTS!!!!!!!!!

  • pilot error & sh*t happens

  • amy 1719. india have great pilots. so stop this ignorant rant about buying licence from india..

  • Short flight...

  • Inexperience or worse. What the hell was the pilot thinking ?

  • The internet,

Where everybody is a pilot or a navy seal

  • @larzinator1988 hell yeah

  • @larzinator1988

yeah I joined the teams in '79 when I was 13. first with the SAS then SEAL TEAM 6. By my 16th birthday I was running training courses for the soviets... I invented 'The system'.

Once I was an adult I started to fly. Immediately made me a flight leader with the blue angels. But, lots of people have done this right? Personally shot down the entire Libyan Air force, the first time...

  • A very very very ignorant pilot, loading the Beaver totaly out of the envelope, no plan for an aborted take-off and no understanding of aerodynamic. Was he getting / bying his licence in India or by postorder? To stupid.

  • I know what happened,,,,,you cant see if your head is that far up your ass and cocky as,,,,,,well this guy. What a DUMB ASS!!!!!! Hope his wife left him.

  • Usually Alaskan bush pilots have a tad more on the ball than that, I tend to think the pilot was an IDIOT from the lower 48 and brand new in the left seat of an almost "fool" proof Beaver float plane..........I'm jus say'n.

  • Owned and commercially flown Beavers for more than 30 years says totally pilot error and little experience, most likely too much money and new to the game, wind insignificant.

    Bry the Dunker Guy

  • I sure hope they pulled that "pilot's" license! What a fool! He should have aborted half way across the lake, it was obvious something was amiss!

  • What a shame. It was a beautiful plane :(

  • lol at 0:35 I would have ran lol

  • @darkwolf1171 enjoy being white and well off no matter how boring. Being broke all the time is not fun.

  • I see his FLAPS down on the Wings trying to take off ????

  • Man, great camera work to hang in there till the end ,then duck down

Just making a beaver float plane video to post on youtube,

  • The pilot hated you

  • Thank you for turning to get the actual crash. Excellent filming.

  • @darkwolf1171 MAYBE THEY WENT TO CHECK IF EVERYONE IS OK

  • good camera work after the dive

  • looking at the windsock the pilot did not take off into wind. Bummer, hope no one was hurt. Great job on the camera man!!

  • @darkwolf1171 I knew that you're going to respond with the exact sentence! Yea. that's a good idea!

  • Cool

  • @darkwolf1171 LOL cause it might be kinda mean to just stand there and film while the people in there need medical attention while you're just standing there filming,.... lol awkward

  • Poor little Beaver, such a sad way to go out. The ship was ready to fly, all it needed was a competent pilot.

  • Damn this guy's got balls. He didn't even make a sound while the plane was flying over him

  • push ful throtle idiot !!!

  • breaking news- crazy beaver builds dam on shore

  • looks like it was overloaded?

  • happiness, happiness and happiness

  • The sound of "Holy Crap" in slow motion is disturbing. I kept looking for Linda Blair to pop up. :)

I'm just kidding........the flight did look a little sluggish upon take-off. I to hope that no one was injured.

  • Very very poor decision by this pilot. I just hope no one was injured seriously, and it almost looked like the plane was overloaded.

  • NTSB said the pilot failed to maintain directional control after a quartering tailwind gust lifted the right wing and float.

  • faa please took this nigga license for ever please

  • Holy crap indeed.

  • 911 moments;

    this is one of them.

  • owhh and doesn't the pilot even know how to use the rudder!!! Certainly not a "stick and rudder man". The part I can't believe is the guy actually throttles down at 0.24 and isn't even past 70% on the throttle the whole time... This pilot should have license revoked!!! Horrible pilot and the crash is total pilot error not the wind at the poster asserts!!!

  • At 0:22 the guy actually throttles down a bit!!! Horrible pilot!!!

  • Gravity sucks...

  • @skazhiprivet Yeah, until your ready to land...

  • ROCKET MAN, Aloha Rocket Man, You da man, great video work. Most

airplane accidents are a multitude of errors. Not to be a smart ass, but

this one looks simple, to much airplane, not enough pilot. A Beaver is a

very straight forward airplane, on floats even better. I feel sorry for this

man, the airplane, and his family. Especially the wife and kids, if they

are forced to fly with him, again. Maybe it's just more money than talent,

or he's just a rank amateur. Great airplane, destroyed.

  • Great video! Wonder why the pilot didn't continue down the lake rather than try to take off without enough speed?

  • @ljackso That was my tought as well. He had plenty of room more to his right, he would of still been able to take-off. Poor pilot skills that's for sure!

  • why wreck such a beautiful plane..?

  • @mandolinplayer13 I'm sure he was just bored and had nothing better to do than trash a pretty airplane.. I'm sure he woke up and said "Let's go wreck a plane today!"

  • Wow! Very impressing camera work!

  • Rocketman, UNBELIEVABLE WORK.....and really glad you weren't totaled along with the De Havilland.

Really scary how the plane had a bull's-eye on you !! LOL

  • This is what happens when you ignore your airspeed indicator. No matter how hard you pull on the yoke, that plane ain't going up if you don't have the speed, buddy.

  • super video and BIG balls

  • 47 People Don't Know Great Video When They See It

Nice Job With The Camera - You The Man !

  • this looked bad right from the start...

  • @dickdog75 this looking ok at start..

  • How about this is why you dont show off!!!! with your underpowered brick.

  • The beaver is anything but under powered. Although it may have been overloaded too. The pilot didn't even get it on the step. When he tried to break one float free he chose the right side float which was the wrong one and the asymmetric drag caused the plane to veer to the left closer to shore. Total pilot error. Not the airplane.

  • @wingnutz999 totally agree, and when he knew he couldnt make it out he shoulda shut down.. god some ppl just shouldnt be pilots

  • @wingnutz999 wow, I didn't know you worked for the NTSB or was there...

  • Hello - Please check your messages. A TV show is interested in your clip. Please contact me as soon as possible. Thanks!

  • It looks like he wasn't aligned with the wind, and he should have lifted the tail up in the middle, but instead, pulled back, increasing AOA (and drag).

What do you call a backseat driver for airplanes, because that's me?

  • @xaminmo The big problem was he attempted a crosswind takeoff; at one point he lost the headwind component of the crosswind and thus it decreased his effective airspeed. It wadded a beautiful plane, but none of the 5 people--or the digs inside the plane--were hurt. Best possible outcome.

  • WOOW, only afther he crashed i allso noticed how much space he had on starbord side, whole river or whatever that is. Allso he will be more directed a

    ainst the wind

  • Takeoff with 3/4 tailwind, "smart" no doubt.

  • It looks like the pilot never even tried to get up "on the step", just plowed the thing along and yanked back when the water was running out...I could be wrong, but it looks like he had the flaps extended beyond the takeoff position.

  • That is one deformed Beaver now. :D

  • Please allow me to rephrase ALL of my comments into one statement. This pilot fucked up and destroyed a great airplane. Why he did it it his business. How it happened is the business of his Insurer and the FAA. I am glad it was not my plane. I would kill to own a Beaver. So this vid hurts my soul. Also: The person who captured this did a great job of showing us a guy doing a lousy job. Beyond that I don't care much. I got other videos to smack down. ltr
  • @hammerogod

Hit the pause icon at: :52. The windsock is still hanging down at slightly less than 45 degrees. The very slight increase in wind speed indicated by the windsock is likely prop wash / wake turbulence from the beaver having just flown past it at full RPM. The pilot could be characterized as inexperienced, over confident and possibly typifying the accident prone invulnerability of certain other highly educated and successful professionals with private pilots certification.

  • Great video taping job there, almost taking one for the team!! Glad no-one was hurt. Especially you. $450-500,000 classic plane for a bit of right rudder. Ouch!!

  • Taking off in a strong crosswind (about 90 degree right to left and about 25 kts), not using the full length of waterway available...Epic Crash.

You standing there and catching this amazing video...Priceless.

  • @hammerogod

This is barely a 5kt crosswind. Look at the wind ripples on the almost flat calm water. The pilot tried to roll the right float out and dragged the left float causing a slight swerve to the left. He then yanked the plane out of the water before it was ready to fly and stalled. There was another 500 yards or more of waterway left in front of him. This takeoff run is standard procedure at Lake Hood in this almost calm wind. Lake Hood traffic is controlled by tower personnel.

  • @monguse39 I watched the video too. I watched what happened. You didn't catch anything that I missed. Anyway...as far as the wind goes: I will split the difference with you. Look at the wind sock. Let's call it 15 kts. But it is a crosswind and the pilot didn't line up on the longest possible part of the waterway. Either way it's a pilot fuck up. Overall I don't care...wasn't my plane. The folks at Lake Hood can smash into whatever they want and I won't lose any sleep.
  • @hammerogod

Do a google search on How To Gauge Wind Speed from windsock and click on the first link which reads:

"Frequently Asked Questions - Hawk Airsports", scroll down to the windsock diagram showing wind speeds

at various windsock angles and tell me the wind was blowing 15kts. With more than 10,000 hours on floats and seven years flying air taxi out of Lake Hood in Beavers and Cessna 206s I know what I'm talking about.

The water is almost glassy in front of the plane prior to liftoff

  • @monguse39

    OK...let's start from scratch.

CLEARLY the plane was being moved towards it's left by the wind.

There WAS a light chop on the lake, NOT glassy.

The wind sock was indicating about 15kts, NOT calm.

The pilot did NOT gain enough airspeed for rotation.

    Total result = PLANE CRASHED.

Factors involved = wind + failure to gain airspeed + failure to utilize the full length of waterway available.

    Me = 3005 hrs in my log book + IFR + Multi Engine + Type Ratings x 3 + AOPA since 1972.

  • @hammerogod

The windsock is hanging down at about 45 degree angle...less than 5 kts. The wind was not pushing the airplane from right to left. The pilot failed to maintain directional control by applying enough right rudder to keep p-factor and engine torque neutralized, buried the tail of the left float prematurely, causing the plane to swerve to the left tried to yank it into the air, stalled and crashed. This guy is an orthopedic surgeon who wrecked his 185 on floats a year earlier.

  • @monguse39 I am going to bow to you experience on floats. I have zero(0) float time. I don't know any factors beyond what I see in this video. At the part where it starts the slo-mo replay the sock is at full extension. I know torque can cause counter-movement so you could be right. If this schmuck has a history of performance errors then you score another point. I can't decide what your agenda is. If you are defending the pilot forget it. If you are displaying your knowledge...go for it.
  • @monguse39 Really... Why am I not surprised!!! Some stupid rich jerkoff with little common sense of brains... So what if he's a surgeon. I would assume his license has been revoked after a SECOND CRASH in under two years...

  • @monguse39

.."windsock angles and tell me the wind was blowing 15kts"...

At the end of the part of the footage that shows the wind sock you can CLEARLY see that the sock is fully extended...that indicates about 15kts.

Look more closely...it only lasts a second.

And how do you explain the right to left movement of the plane? (relative to the plane not the vid).

Some of that was drift caused by the wind.

    The rest was lousy piloting.

You may be high-time on floats but why defend this pilot?

  • @monguse39

.."The water is almost glassy in front of the plane prior to liftoff"..

Yes, there was calm water in immediate proximity to the shoreline.

If you're truly a high time Floater you will know that calm water is death to float planes.

I worked a NAS North Island where the Martin P5Ms were stationed and I watched 1000's of takeoffs.

When the bay was calm or relatively calm the takeoff runs were 40% longer.

(I used the San Diego skyline as a reference).

    That was common knowledge.

  • @hammerogod

@monguse39 What windsock are you looking at? The mouth of the windsock is fixed in a horizontal position. The part that indicates wind velocity is hanging down at a 45 degree angle...less than 5 kts. Crosswind was a negligible factor. This was pilot overconfidence and less than 35 hours in a beaver. Pilot error 100%. So your read on the windsock is simply wrong. Yes I am a high time pilot retired now with over 27,000 hours mostly Alaska time. 10,000 + on floats

  • this guys got cajones

  • You sir, have balls of steel. I would have been seeking cover at :19!

  • You have titanium units. Many people would have moved. Epic footage!

  • you will be dead if the plane hits you.. DAMN that was really close!

  • Wow glad to hear everyone was safe and sound.

  • Uhm Could you pull up now please, Like kind Now-oh-shit-better-duck, Great film Job

  • Holy Crap. That's some damn good filming! Glad everyone was safe!

  • Most unfortunate.

  • Dude... you have huge, huge massive ginormous bawls.

  • hahahaha! bummm!

  • NTSB report states "the pilot claims a gust of wind blew him course". The problem is there was no wind, it was less than 3kts. A Private pilot with 500 hrs total time and 20 hours on floats. He lifted the right float for take-off, but he was below Vr speed. He had plenty of room to correct and continue down the waterway, but tried to force it. Too much plane for too little pilot. Just because you can afford to buy one, doesn't make you capable to fly one. A real shame.

  • Holy crap indeed....

  • Holy...sh*t...

  • bet those 2 kids onboard developed a fear of flying as a result of this....

  • The Beaver is now a Gopher!

  • So was their ever a determination by the FAA as to cause? It sounds like he throttled back at @ 0:25 sec mark and never did get the aircraft to rotation speed.

  • Holy shit you could've died. Your reaction was weird. Holy crap... Like if it was something small... lol I wish their were more videos like this "With no one being hurt tho"

  • As we say in the fire service, "Never lose your head over a piece of tail" Glad no one got hurt!

  • Must have been a student. The pilot never did get it up on the step. I can see the elevator held full back all through the takeoff run. Once you get some speed, you're supposed to let the plane go forward to the front part of the floated so you get sort of sking effect with a lot less drag. By holding the elevator full back, you're forcing the floats to push against a bow wave and you'll never accelerate.

  • sorry but the height of the wings are more then 7 feet off the ground and the plane was in the air at the time so it was more like 10 or 12 feet over your head dumbass , and the propeller's are 3 feet long so stop with the b.s I think I know ive been flying for most of my life

  • @Millard97 Bull Shit. Mathematically, it is conclusive that the aircraft was NOT more than 10ft over his head, and if anything between 5-7ft. Secondly, he's probably right about the distance of his head from the 9 cylinder, supercharged, air-cooled, R-985 Wasp Junior SB radial piston engine; capable of expelling 450hp!

I dont know who you think you are, but you'r certainly not a pilot thats for sure. My grandad was a pilot, my dad is a pilot and used to fly these very often, and I'm a pilot.

  • @Millard97 Also, check out the wind sock at 0:40. that's clearly more than 5kts of wind blowing!

  • He also got faked out on ground effect, till he got in the air in total stall.

Pretty sad, as these are the favorite ship.

    Heck of a capture.

  • im glad he jumped out before it crashed

  • In frame 0:40 the windsock indicates a crosswind. you can see the plane turn into the crosswind on liftoff. When taking off on water you need to head directly into the wind. When ATC gave wind direction that should be your takeoff heading

  • Dude! You got Buzzed!!!

  • i'm glad the fence wasn't trashed ... do you how much those things cost nowadays ?

  • 3...2...1.....JUNK! Hope everyone was OK

  • how about a weight & balance?

  • That's wonderful no one was hurt in the crash. Luckily the wind caused them to crash on land, not water.

  • The plane didn't have enough airspeed to gain altitude. Besides I would have utilized the stretch of water(the water highway) connected to Lake Hood to depart.

  • NTSB Report available at ntsb website

    Accident #ANC09CA050

  • fuck!

  • Plane looked like it was too heavy

  • @craigdred Yup it was,how about a weight and balance before take off

  • im so glad the dogs are ok.

  • holy crap indeed

  • shoulda just climbed over the fence.

  • @Blacksadable you mean grams? if they WERE smoking weed, which helps you relax and think faster, they probably WOULDN'T have krashed! ;)

  • @andrespereyda relaxed and think faster? you're kidding me. Weed will relax that is correct but in that relaxed state your thinking is in that same state.

Show me an independent study that states you can think faster when you've smoked weed.

  • @ThyBountyHunter much anecdotal evidence (tinyurl,com/62slxva), plus studies like this (tinyurl,com/tbex), and for understanding the evolutionary bigger picture, this (tinyurl,com/6eau72t). on that note, i think a cannabis user would be more apt to see that maybe it's not the best idea to try and use a cockamamie machine to fly like a bird (aka aeroplanes). open up. our mainstream society right now is not the wisest planet in the galaxy. thank you

  • @andrespereyda okay one is a vid that stats nothing about how it effects thought process, another is a website on cannabis, which is not a independent study at all and the tbex one doesn't work.

Google "effects of smoking weed on the brain". those links all state and support that smoking weed impairs the thought process. It doesn't state that it makes people think faster in anyway and that is my point against you stating it makes one think faster. It doesn't, that is all.

  • Did the plan hit the fence ?

  • wtf? 2 adults, 2 children, and 2 dogs? 2 of anything else?

  • wow

  • Full marks for keeping the camera on target when you realised you were still alive.

  • Ain't nothing like front row seats.

  • 0:56 ... Nice ring!

  • It's a Beaver...it was only doing 30 knots hahaha. Glad to hear the folks were okay, but what a waste of a classic airplane.

  • that was so close to you!

  • WHOA. That is simply amazing....how did you ever get such a high-definition camera?!?!?

  • shoulda run up to him and banged on the window and said, "hey! did you mean to do that?! ....camera rolling. --nice composure BTW

  • @headdownharris Hell Yeah, my thoughts exactly.....LOL

  • That is amazing footage

  • wheres my chap stick

  • Wow, something like that happend to me, only it was a Piper Tri-Pacer, not a Beaver. And the guy took off.

  • Rocketman, you is the man! Rarely does footage like this appear, you stayed on target even though you almost had your head removed. Dang fine job...I put that one in my favorites for sure....

  • hahahahahaha

  • Glad to see it was survivable, but hate to see that this happened. Such a beautiful plane removed from service. I wish the pilot would have applied the proper crosswind controls. Slight crosswind (not gust) is apparent on the water. Looks like the wrong wing was lifted to reduce drag which further increase the already uncorrected drift towards the shore (watch the ailerons). If it was a wind gust, where is the rudder application and corresponding yaw?

  • @lazflyn It looks like he was overloaded too...didn't even see the floats go up on step.

  • Hello ....Viking Aircraft? I need to speak to your parts department please.

  • That would b my luck 2 lol

  • That went well....

  • you just owned the grim reaper

  • Did he forget to remove the gust lock?

  • InSaNe

  • holy crap

  • he could have had a longer take off run by not turning left, My guess is he saw the camera and wanted to give the guy some great footage of the beaver lifting off.

  • he could have had a longer take off run by not turning left, My guess is he saw the camera and wanted to give the guy some great footage of the beaver lifting off and low passing him. Beavers are not highly powered and he did not have enough, Airspeed.

  • I know the guy who flew crashed the plane. He's a Dr. And just did a surgery on me. I hope he's better at surgery than flying.

  • At least buddy in the black shirt didnt spill his brewsky

  • People with wise cracks always say what they would have done after the fact! When in fact they probably wouldn't have done much better in the handling of the craft! So quick to find falt in others! If ya don't know what happened, stfu! As for the pilot and the aircraft, sorry for your loss, Beavers are beautifull aircraft!

  • @wbarr12 well put..!

  • what a waste ! funny .. but what a pitty.

  • If you listen to the Tower Radio recording of this incident, The Pilot coming in behind also said "Holy Crap"

    Synchronized Holy Crapping.

  • AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

    AHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAAHHAAHAHAHAHHAHA

    AHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHAHA :D

    AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHA XD
