save your money- and get ready to spend it all. If your lack of money is going to stop you from doing anything, just quit now. It costs to play- period. That aside, I'd go to as many local drift events like Drift Day, or whatever drift association is nearest you. You can learn alot at these "clinics" and you'll have a blast!
congrautlations on making top 8! i remember the first time i saw your car on another video and i was like ha thats a sick car. how did u get into drifting? like i know a lot of other drivers got in by luck. sort of like dai yoshihara never even competed before formula d. also how much did it cost u to build and maintain your car?
Thanks! I've been into drifting since it first started in the U.S. I just never had my own car to compete in, I was road racing and doing rally. Finally in 2003 I started building this car, and competing in amateur comps in 2004. I've still got very little into my car compared to my competition, roughly $25,000-$30,000. Maintainence is pretty cheap since its just an old Mustang, roughly $1,000 between rounds.
This is ONLY due to the fact we are judged on how close we can come to the wall. More than 1 meter from the wall and points are deducted! Touch the wall without losing the drift and your gaining maximum points.
Okay, so make the bumper kiss the wall. Seems reasonable enough....
Though it doesn't cover the guys who've obviously hooked up mid-turn and shoved the car face-first into the wall.
Does it not get frustrating, being judged on something completely subjective? (Rather than being judged on something completely objective, like a lap time + cones?)
so it's a points thing and not a time thing? You say more than 1 meter from the wall and points are deducted. At what point in the turn do points start becoming a factor?
We are judged on Speed, Angle, line, and Impact. They radar our entry speed,we have to be within about 10mph of the highest speed. There is a set "line" with inner and outer clipping points and zones. The judges will score each run, and the biggest area for opinionated judging is in the "Impact". This can be determined by how we initiated the drift, how clean we run the course, wether the transitions were sketchy at all, and how committed we were to our lines (ie: on throttle the full course).
s14solja, what the heck are you talking about? A true drifter would never say the things you have. What is wrong with the tides turning a little bit? So what if imports are more popular now days? Isn't it more interesting to watch someone with a unique ride? Have you ever even lived in Japan? Do you know how much attention Mustangs (ie IMPORT) cars get over there? haha, your ignorance is forgivable, but please don't spew forth hatred towards someone how his just trying to have fun. PEace.
mrdeebs- thanks for words. Theres haters out there everywhere, and whats funny is he accuses me of "wasting tons of money". HA! He's obviously never seen a D1 car- dry carbon everything! I'm one of the poorest drifters out there! Ha ha!
Sweet driving as always. Fox Bodies for the win! Sad news on the wall kiss, but glad to see you'll be able to do some more hard core drifting in '09! Can't wait to see more vids up!
Great job man! I remember your car from the past 2 formula D events in Long Beach and it's great to hear you got your license for 2009! I'll be rooting for you next year :)
Awesome chase run in 16 round, you almost got him
Nice Fox Body Bro! But just wondering, how did you get sponsors to support you? Especially, big sponsor like For racing???

Only in drifting do so many people hit so many walls...

That was pretty cool actually. How many cars did you wreck before you could do that so well?
