@XXensation well what happened to one person that does the writing, composing, and conducting? why do they have 8 different people working on different things??!!
@Mus1cL0vr11 They had only 2 weeks to write/arrange/orchestrate/record the score (very very short amount of time for such a task). One person simply can't create score like this in that amount of time.
I agree, it's not the best trend in filmscoring but I think it's a problem of these huge blockbusters (Jerry Bruckheimer is the worst producer of all time !)... all in all it's not about making a good movie but rather about the commercial success. So it's also hard for composers ... they do not get enough time and creative freedom. But there are still some white hopes out there ... Howard Shore is the one person who does the composing, orchestrating and conducting.
@keyvangolestan Nope, it doesn't. Klaus Badelt composed the music for Pirates of the Caribbean 1 (and thus the original Pirates of the Caribbean suite being played here), while Hans Zimmer composed the music for PotC 2, 3 and 4. It belongs to Badelt, punctum.
you're wrong ... Hans Zimmer composed the main themes for PotC 1, they had some trouble about the score, so Mr. Zimmer composed the themes out of a mad panic as he said, because of his work on The Last Samurai he couldn't finish it ... Klaus Badelt had to compose the entire score. You can hear the suite of Hans Zimmer in "Pirates, Day One, 4:56am" on the Treasures Collection. It's a definitely a typical theme from the pen of Hans Zimmer !
@XXensation Not exactly - Hans Zimmer composed most of the themes, but the rest of the score (and even this suite) is a result of a collaboration of numerous other composers (Klaus Badelt, Geoff Zanelli, Nick Glenie-Smith, Ramin Djawadi, Blake Neely, Steve Jablonsky, James Dooley, etc.).
They had only +/- 2 weeks to rescore the whole movie.
@vxl788 heres whats wrong, hans zimmer has repeatedly used the main themes in the movies to come. So much, that if Klaus Badelt actually wrote those themes, he would have copyright issues, and.......he never did. So there you have it. Hans Zimmer wrote for all 4 movies. All Badelt did was write a bunch of crap (WITH 10 OTHER PEOPLE) that made the movie and soundtrack bad. It's very wrong for Hans Zimmer not to get credit for his hard work.
Klaus Badelt is a genius and his piece of music-brilliant. But I think the movies don't suit the melody... The melody would be much better for a real heroic/epic movie, not sth comedy-like like Pirates of the Caribbean.
Anyone knows is Badelt is classically trained? Did he write the full orchestral score? It's one thing to come up with a catchy tune, another thing to develop it into a complete score. btw, he's cute.
@uptilthesky Not to ruin your illusions, but as far as I know, Hans Zimmer actually wrote most of the themes for the film. But due to a heavy workload (The Last Samurai), Klaus Badelt got the job of composing the score... with Zimmer's themes. So I think it's a bit funny, that Badelt is praised as this genius composer at the show, where he actually "only" co-composed the music :)
@uptilthesky Sorry, maybe I read your comment wrong - just thought you wrote, that Badelt was the one composing the "catchy tune"... :) And about the whole co-composing thing... I have no reason not to believe Zimmer, when he says that he wrote/co-composed the themes. I mean, they have Zimmer's style written all over them. Plus, I have never heard Badelt compose anything HALF as good, before or after Pirates... :)
@Ephmreal I do agree with you but if you're looking for music similar to pirates then just listen to the music from a film called The Rock, it's uncanny. Also, interestingly enough, Badelt co-wrote the music Gladiator alongside Zimmer as well as a few other films which people would generally just assume to be Zimmer! I've just researched that now, I had no clue about Badelts involvment in the Gladiator soundtrack before now. :D

Yeah you're right ... I just said that Zimmer composed the main theme(s) ... the actual scoring was done by Klaus Badelt and his assistants from RCP.

Lo que salva a esta mediocre partitura Zimmeriana (por no decir "MediaVenturiana"), es el magnífico trabajo de orquestación en este concierto.

@Bullock1991 I like to think that they came up with that part for Gladiator, but then realised it needed an entire movie. And pirates.
