  • Great vids hey J.Ceviche what type of wetsuit are u using ? Im from the North East Coast and our water here stays pretty cold even in the summer and was wondering what do you prefer to wear for kayak fishing in cold water Thanks TL

  • @RAREART Currently I am using wetsuit Farmer John style with front zipper for easy front entry and relief. They are made by NRS and are available at your local kayak outfitters. This wet suit is a must wear when paddling in cold waters, it's your only protection from getting hypothermia should you fall in the water. I also wear paddling jacket and paddling pants to keep dry and always wear life vest (PFD). There are dry suits available in the market that will keep you dry at all times. Cheers

  • @jceviche awesome man thanks for the quick response... I noticed the wetsuit you wear in your fishing videos is made from Oneil I always thought if u fish in cold water and cool air that if u fell in the wetsuit would keep u warm in the water but when u came out of the water you would be very cold ? Sorry for the questions just want to make the right decision before I buy a wetsuit or dry top / dry pant combo Thanks !!

  • @RAREART The O'neil top is a surfing top that I use in combination with the farmer john wetsuit. I have fallen in cold water before both intentional and by accident and I felt fine after getting out of the water as long as I'm wearing wind breaker. Another safety precaution is to carry a set of fleece clothes and socks in a dry bag for emergency use. Check out the website of ImmersionResearch. Your life is at stake, I recommend to take kayak safety lessons from local outfitters.

  • @jceviche I see thank you for that info I will deff look into that set up and check out IR's website....So when can we expect a new video I have already seen all of them about 10,000 times lol.. Also is that a custom live bucket u made ? looks like the Shimano livewell bag :)

  • what song is this?

  • @fishingkayakphil Bimini by the Sea by Calipsonian they are local band in Bimini Island

  • do you ever use any lures? or just live bait?

    Phil

  • @fishingkayakphil It depends on the target species. I use fish trap for sand bass, calico and rock fish, I use rapala for thresher sharks, I use irons for yellow tail but there is nothing more deadly ,catch all than fly lined live bait. A properly presented live bait will catch White Sea Bass, Thresher Shark, Yellow Tail, Mako Shark and Halibut. I hope this answers your question. Tight Line,

  • how odes fishing from this kayak compare to the sit on top?

  • @fishingkayakphil I enjoy fishing on both platform, but more so in Sea Kayak as I can paddle faster and farther with less effort. I use Sea Kayak on exploration trips. The SOT however is better preferred by most for obvious reasons, easy to move around, good stability and can haul more gear up to 350 pounds. The cost is also a factor.

  • I'm going to get this posted if it kills me! (4th try)

I'm really impressed with your video. I fish LJ, too and would like to shoot some clips. How are you mounting the camera? The shots are perfectly framed, rock stead, and you shoot from many different angles. I can't see how one guy on a kayak can do that with a camera on a stick. Please share your technique.

Also, what camera are you using?

Thanks, and I hope to see you on the water some day.

  • sdSteve,

I am using a Sony DCR-HC96 camcorder on a water proof box, a helmet cam for remote camera.

  • I just tried to send another message. Don't know if it went. Here's a follow-up. Why did you go against conventional wisdom and buy a sit-inside kayak for ocean fishing? Since you're not using a skirt, a little bad luck and you've got a boat filled with water that's sinking to the bottom. Do you have a trick I don't know about? Sealed bulkheads? Just curious. You're obviously a great kayangler and I'd like to know what you do. Thanks.

    sdSteve at various fishing sites.

  • zamanisana Sit on top kayak has its advantages for fishing but I also like to paddle long distances, island hopping and camping. Sea kayak is built for the purpose of expedition, it can carry all the camping gear needed for the weekend outing and its more sea worthy than a SOT kayak. However to safely use a Sea kayak one needs to learn how to do Eskimo roll and some basic kayak handling by taking Sea Kayak basic I-II & III. I hope this answers your questions.

    jceviche

  • Thanks for the quick response. I understand why you went with a sit-inside but aren't you worried about taking on water, especially without a skirt?

  • @zamanisana

he put on a spray skirt on in the beginning.

Fishing in Sit-in kayaks is a whole different experience that requires good skills. If you can put up with a narrow boat and little space for tackle etc. Sit inside kayaks can offer amazing, multi-day expeditions AND fishing covering much much more distance than a wide SOT

  • I like the kayak. And that was an awesome video!

  • That's a nice kayak! I guess the red one in your earlier video was just a tester and you actually turned around and bought a much nicer Nordkapp. Either that, or you own TWO! Good on ya', mate.

  • daytimeOwl, you are right the red sea kayak is a demo. I just got this orange yak after waiting 5 months and 10 days.

  • nice one... i plan on getting one soon :)
