As great as Shirley Bassey is, no-one sings this song better than Tom himself. It's beautiful and clearly written from the heart and he sings every note with an achiing tenderness.

He gave her this soft bittersweet song, and she really tells the story with her vocal ability. I am in such awe of Dame Shirley's voice at age 73 that I am in biased. I like hers best, but the tenderness s you described is nice too.
