  • Did you know there are folks in Garmin's management who actually take their employees to strip clubs and then drive home in company rental cars while drinking? Or did you know there are Garmin employees discriminating during interviews based on age and sex? Or better yet, did you know Garmin managers are blocking employees from getting promotions because they are pregnant?

  • I have a Garmin Nuvi & it's a piece of shit. Constant screen freeze. It's going in the bin & I'm replacing it with a Tom Tom.

  • @whitbyjet65 Have you done a firmware update?

  • @GPSTracklog It's in the rubbish. I replaced it today with a decent sat nav (a Tom Tom). I certainly won't be buying a Garmin again. It's the biggest piece of shit I've owned in a long time.

  • Is it possible to listen to the music on this model ???

  • @iirma566 No, it has no MP3 player.

  • nothing about traffic updates ?

  • nuvi 1490t very cheap at mynewgps

  • For the POIs,next to the distance it shows n,e,w,s.Is it from you're position?

  • does it have free map update for lifetime??

  • @BRishal No, but the 1490LMT does.

  • zoom in when you use your poi, it'll give you more map info and nearest place to that location

  • when you push go your star buck note should disappear right?

  • I have 2 questions and I hope you can answer it for me:

    1) Is it possible to make the map show gas station/restaurants/park/etc instead of going into POI? I believed Magellan has it automatically. If it the map shows gas station while I am driving, it reminds me to fill up just in case the next gas station is 50 miles away.

    2) What is the different between "Most" and "Normal" in map detail?

    Thanks.

  • @hornymonk626 You can't make POIs visible on nuvis. I think you can if you load a custom POI file though.

Most vs. normal affects the zoom level at which smaller streets show.

    Hope this helps!

  • Very important question: Is it a capactive or resistive display? Very important for me to know that as a motorbiker because I need to be able to operate the screen behind a plastic covering.

  • @simon44 Resistive.

  • @GPSTracklog you sure yeah? It looks like a glass screen which got me thinking that it's a capactive screen.

  • @simon44 The only Garmin units with a capacitive screen are the 3700 series.

  • I have a Garmin & it's a piece of crap. The screen constantly freezes. TomTom for me next time.

  • I enjoyed watching this one. The world has become everyones oyster with high speed...

  • hello I have a question. can I use this device outside my car? like when I'm wandering? or do I have the to have the cables connected to the car at all times?

  • @manhattenhero Yes. The battery life is rated at "up to 3 hours." You may find a smaller 4.3" model a better size for pedestrian use though.

  • Using Broadband it took me 5 hours to download the one time upgrade map,I cannot imagine having lifetime maps and doing this everytime....

  • Is anyone else having problems with the 1490 Favourites folders? Creating a subfolder is not working (that is, when you want to group all your friends addresses, it wouldn't let you).

I still own a nuvi 260w and it always lets me create subfolder on the Favourites.

    Please help......

  • Very Nice Job on your video! I'm a big Garmin fan too. I have wriiten about the Nuvi 1490t unit myself

  • Anybody know how to fix when your Garmin gps says "Down loading map" and go blank? Can I do anything to fix that? Anyone, help please?

  • @vajtswvtsim Does it say "loading maps" or "downloading maps?" Sorry for the delay in responding, but YouTube's commenting system has been flaky and wouldn't let me post yesterday.

  • have your opinions changed in terms of the gps being good or bad since you posted this video?

  • @goatkiller68 I still think its good. Since reviewing it I have heard of shutdown problems, but Garmin addressed this with a software update this past summer.

  • Does anyone know if Garmin or any other mfg makes a unit that is voice activated such that I can say 'locate Starbucks on my route' and it will without my having to take my eyes off the road and punch buttons?

  • @equsnarnd just go on their website and compare.. yes they have some

  • @equsnarnd

Garmin 800 series - e.g. 805 has this. It uses an external steering wheel button to activate it, and has its mic on this button closer to your mouth. The 3700 series also does, but is high cost - thin and glass face like an Iphone and costs >$400.

  • @82GigEm Thanks for that - much appreciated. I own a 265WT and can't imagine going without some sort of vehicle gps now that I've seen the benefits but I might wait for the prices to come down to get the touchscreen and voice commands.

  • @equsnarnd If you don't mind an older model, the nuvi 855 can be found pretty cheap. The soon to be released 2360, a mid-range model, will also have voice commands.

  • Took to San Diego and couple of times it lead me to nowhere. It has a bad habit of routing around the block to get to destination when the destination is straight ahead. i used all Garmins the last 4 years, it is one of the better GPS but not the best. I heard Magellan is more advance and intuiative than GArmin.

  • u need to explain about the smoother refresh rate and 3d buildings if there is any because older garmin been using the same os until now.

  • finally smoother scrolling...slow refresh rates delay directions at times

  • Please help! Im starting a new job as a driver in a new location to me.I need to know whats a best gps device that its out there...i heard good thinks about garmin ,but yet here i see different things. Also what numbers next to a model mean?Does that mean then lower then older model?

  • I have the 880t garmin cost me lots of money when it came out and I have it for a year now and I am a big garmin fan owning 3 older garmin gps. the 880t is just a big disappointment, too many bugs, waaayyy tooo many bugs. Its like a cockroach nest. I got the latest update and firmware with no sign of improvement. NO MORE GARMIN for me.

  • @drake911 What kind of bugs are you seeing?

  • @GPSTracklog it will freeze on poi search 90% of the time, recaluate when going on a freeway that spirel, It will restart at random, when turning of gps still eats battery life and many more. Not worth the money.

  • @drake911 I'm assuming you've updated the firmware to the latest?

  • mine doesn't show speed limit

  • @otamtotamtam It should, at least sometimes, unless you're in the most rural area imaginable! Try updating the firmware. If that doesn't work, I'd call Garmin support.

  • thanks

  • ARE YOU ABLE TO MAP OUT YOUR OWN INSTRUCTIONS RATHER THAN THE GARMIN FASTEST WAY THERE

  • @TKCOTTRILL You can add multiple vias, which fairly well nails down the route.

  • @cageordie ........THANK YOU

  • how do u adjust the suction cup mounting position . The plastic bearing with holes seem to have locked into one position ie the sat nav can only face one direction.

  • @kamalmichael Use more force :-) You should just be able to pop it off the ball, then have a look and see if there's some foreign object or contamination in there. Other than that there should be nothing stopping it from rotating. You just need to use a little mechanical sympathy.

  • Would you recommend buying a factory refurbished?

  • @kenrc51 I am returning one today. Power issues and a very jumpy touch screen make it unusable. Then there are software issues that I can't live with.

  • i say this is shit, no house numbers, overpriced.

  • @adepsa

    There are house numbers.

  • I went to Wal Mart's website and they're showing a picture of the lane assist feature with this particular model. I always wondered why every single video I find on YouTube that does a review of Garmin Nuvi GPS models only shows the most dull & mundane features that are even available on my Nuvi 200. I want a new GPS unit and I would love to see someone display this model's traffic, text-to-speech, and lane assist features. Cheers.

  • yah same here, i saw the same thing atthe wal-mart site to!

  • @andyrooney11 The traffic display was better on the 670, it's quite hard to get to and not very useful as map detail vanishes quickly as you zoom out. The lane assist can be useful when it bothers to show it, which is mostly on interstates. For some junctions it does a nice job of showing where you need to be at each stage. Where it falls down badly is at forks on minor roads in the middle of nowhere, due to the scaling/detail choices they don't show forks on minor routes distant from the dest.

  • @cageordie

    Thank you.

  • The new one doen't show upcoming crossraods!!! Only the road your currently on (which I find useless). And there are advertisement pop-ups that appear on ur screen out of no-where some times!!

  • can't stand the adverb's. Haven't found a way to disable those yet.

  • @Phewy Supposedly by switching off the traffic info. The thing is that this is a revenue stream for Garmin, they make money by showing you adverts. I'd rather pay a lifetime traffic subscription that be subjected to their inane adverts. Sears and Red Lobster are blacklisted by me for advertising on these things, I have seen their names way more that I want to and it's just irritating.

  • Cool. Looks like main difference between this and the 1390T is the screen size?

  • are you able to "record" tracks, that you have been through? as the gpsmap276c?
