Obama is completely lost. Either his handlers are giving bad advice or he isn't listening to their good advice.
Set a date for withdrawal and get your men and women out of Afghanistan while you can still save face. Don't bother trying to train an Afghan police force who have no intention of fighting the taleban after you leave. Pay attention to history...
Obama is contending with a raft of complexities and taking his time to sort them out. He is not an impulsive Cowboy, like his disgraced predecessor. A sudden withdrawl from Agfhanistan would not merely allow the Taliban more and more control of this bizarre, medieval country, it would allow for the further destabilization of Pakistan, already in a precarious position and well armed w/ nukes. The last thing when we need is a simplistic, impulsive decison.
Obama appears to be unconcerned about Iran's acquisition of nukes. It is in that context that I say Barack Obama is the Neville Chamberlain of our day.
'Appears to be unconcerned'. On what basis. I know the neo-cons [ who led us into the misadventure in Iraq] and Isreal lobby have been spoiling for military intervention, which of course would be disastrous re oil prices and I am aware that neither of them would like it advertised that Isreal has the most powerful military in the region [ we subsidize them w/ billlions per year and they have an estimated 100 to 150 nukes] and are well able to take care of themselves.
Brzezinski: U.S. should forcibly stop IAF flying over Iraq to reach Iran[,,,]
Zbigniew Brzezinski, Carter's national security adviser, said on Sunday that U.S. forces should forcibly prevent the Israel Air Force from reaching Iran to strike its nuclear facilities.[...] Brzezinski said that Israel forces have "to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch?" [...] he said the United States would "have to be serious about denying them that right."
[Rasmussen] wants to remake the world's most powerful military alliance, born from the ashes of World War II and shaped by its frontline role in the Cold War, into something that's "relevant in today's world.
NATO will continue to be the guarantor of territorial defense for member states, he says, but it must also become "a provider of global peace and stability" by targeting threats — terrorism, piracy — in distant lands. It needs to be more flexible and agile, and should work more closely and more smartly with civilian institutions like the U.N., the European Union and the World Bank.
We do not have commander in chief we have coward in chief, This gutless wimp is court martiling our brave troops for roughing up muslim savages he still will not mention word muslim terrorist 2 weeks after islamic savage murdered 13 americans in Fort Hood in terrorist attack
Its not a war on islam. Its that mentality that makes boneheaded soldiers do stupid things TO GET COURT martialed. He already spoke of the tragedy of fort hood. Boy you just want to go out of your way to be offended when the basis for your complaint is utterly stupid to begin with.
After Cheney and Bush diverted precious resources to Irag for 7 years, all the while saying this wasnt the case for fuck sakes, thus allowing for a steady resurgence of the Taliban, Obama authorized 17,000 additional troops in March, an increase in Predator Drone attacs, replaced the previous Cmdr w/ McChrystal [sp] and is now looking at an increase of 34,000. In short, he has been far more aggressive than his predecessors. Meanwhile Dick 5 deferments Cheney carps from his secret bunker.
@molloyxx1 obama can take time to travel to europe to try to get olympic games for chicago which is not his job prior to september he only had one meeting with general in charge of afghanistan He rather sacrifice american lives by not using air power, still waiting for him to mention words muslim terrorism to desribe the savage who murdered 13 americans at Fort Hood
Good luck trying to kill terrorists in Afghanistan. Iraq was the better place to attract them to and fight them. We're back-tracking all the way to Sept 10th, 2001. We'll be there again once the man-child president gives up on Afghanistan.
Do you think the appx 100,000 Iraqis who died during W's misadventure think it was a better idea to fight them in THEIR country than ours? And nevermind that Al Queda was swiftly driven out of Afganistan in 2001 and that Bin Laden was pinned down in Tora Bora [but W. failed to greenlight using US troops to finish the deal] and that had Bush not grossly under-resourced Afghanistan for 7 years not another US troop would be in harms way there.
That Senate report on Tora Bora is bullshit. Obama's decided to relearn Russia's lesson and reignite nationalistic opposition to a large foreign troop presence--something Bush avoided by relying on Special Forces, who handle that terrain better anyway. But O's base staged a huge anti-war demonstration last month, so Kerry ordered that report drawn up to get you koolaid drinkers riled up again in your hatred of Bush so you'll forget that you think we shouldn't be in the MidEast at all.
John Kerry was all for the Special Forces approach at the time. He told an interviewer in late 2001 the United States could avoid making Afghanistan into another Vietnam, "as long as we make smart decisions, and we don't go in and repeat what the British or the Russians tried to do. And I don't think we will; I think we're on a different footing."
In mid-December 2001, right in the middle of the battle of Tora Bora, John Kerry supported the administration's strategy: "I think we have been smart. I think the administration leadership has done it well, and we are right on track." Kerry only cautioned against using too much force: "I am not for a prolonged bombing campaign," he said.
Don't handicap our troops by restricting their engagement of the enemy, so they *can* win. Otherwise don't waste money, lives and time by continuing the folly.
