If you think the rev-limiter will stop this from happening and would like to prove me wrong. Go ahead, take your car up to redline in 3rd gear and shift into 1st make sure you record it so we can all laugh. Also for the love of god don't do this around other people as you might kill somebody when your wheels potentially lock up sending you skidding out of control.

@OBCblackhawk lol if the wheels don't lock up from the top of third to first, i would be amazed. he would have to get the clutch in at the blink of an eye to prevent that.

Anyone that thinks a revlimiter will stop engine overspeed on a DOWNSHIFT is a complete and total moron that shouldn't be allowed to drive a manual car let alone talk about them. The rev-limiter can only cut fuel and ignition, it can't physically stop the engine from over revving because you physically connected it to a lower gear which connects you to the wheels and causes the engine to over rev. Only thing that would stop this from happening is if the car stopped the transmission from engaging

I have all the rev limiters on my gsr and still hit like 9k rmp from 3rd to 2nd. its toooo much for the rev limiter when you misshift

I'd never recommend taking off the rev limiter, increase it a bit only. Don't matter how good you are, somtime you might accidently do this.

This chuckle head here shifted from 3rd to second at full tilt causing the transmission to mechanically force the engine past it's governor. If he had just missed the shift and floored it while it was in neutral, it would've just hit the rev limiter but this went above and beyond the 10k barrier...

Very popular problem people can get into. Especially when the tranny is under a lot of lateral force. If the mounts aren't stiff enough, the transmission can shift.
