Daniel is superstrong and all, but Sharma is still at the top of the game, and I think he will keep putting up new 5.15's at least for a little while.
Sharma has taken a huge step forward both with and for the world of climbing, by putting up routes AND boulders people for just a decade ago would've thought of as impossible climbs. But he cant live forever, and the younger generation of climbers will sooner or later have to take over and bring the sport even further.
In progression (by big up productions) when they're interviewing sharma he talks about the new generation of climbers and how they're gonna push climbing forward to a new level.
take it easy bro. ABS 9 was in boulder, this is from the ABS 8 regionals competition... No need to throw out the language, especially when you're wrong.
if you think he is the best in the world you are sadly mistaken. has he climbed any 5.15s naw. why dont you take a good look at dave graham or maybe chris sharma.
i guess the dumb kind. if you are strong enough to hang with the tough V problems and you cant do hard leads. it is only a matter of endurance not strength or style or any other climbing jargon you can think of. the only difference in the two styles is distance and gear.
they're different enough that they have didn't grading systems. And the fact that you confused the rating systems by comparing v with 5. makes you look like a noob.
i agree this guy sounds stupid and doesnt know what he is on about, but there are some awsome climbers out there, and you cant say, ooh he is the best, because for example, sharma has done climbs no one else has done, soo how can they be compared.
I think sharma is protecting his name a bit by only working on problems of his style. He doesn't run out and try other people's hard scends. On the other hand, everyone gunning for him has gone to all his boulder problems and blown through them. So, it is safe to say the new generation is as good as him. Although, sharma clearly was the groundbreaker and the first to do all these climbs before they were though possible.
sharma doesn't give a shit about his reputation. he climbs purely for himself, so obviously he is going to seek out climbs that are "his style." Why would he do a 14d or 15a that someone else put up if he won't like the climb? He could just put up his own climb and have more fun doing it.
Besides, I'd like to see someone "blow through" jumbo love. I don't think even Ondra could blow through that monster of a route.
@boxsterwelby I think your point is really solid, but consider the fact that he's been the best in the world for years, and I think it's safe to say he'd be fine with having some kids take the spotlight off him. He seems like the kind of guy who's just looking for a fun challenge - not at all the kind to protect his name or worry about somebody else being better. He's even talked about "the next generation of climbers" in his interviews.

Well i think sharma would want someone to take his place, and surpass him, but i still think he is the grandmaster.

This is not an ABS comp. It is the Spot Bouldering Series championship.

5.15 isn't bouldering. In bouldering daniel is at there level. What kind of climber are you to confuse the type of climbing?

hmmm, i argee to be honest. but with most things, if you get a person that is very very good, others copy.

Those are finals climbs -- so I don't think there is any rating. I'm sure they are HARD.
jasonplancaster 4 years ago
Does anyone know what those climbs were rated? Especially the one he kept falling on.
arrowwhiskers 4 years ago
they aren't really rated, but based on having been to nationals and seen him climb, I'd guess V12-13
liberateyourheel 4 years ago
nah id say v10 - v11..
