Well the diver acted in the right way when that shark came close. It takes not more than just putting something between you and the shark and after some time it will lose the interest in you.
But it wasn't really aggressive rather courious.
(Like the Tiger shark some retard killed near new orleans because he thought the shark would kill him.. he shot him 8 thimes and later stabbet him with a knife instead of going back onto the boat..)
Thank you all for your brilliant comments. Sorry have been so slack in replying to your questions etc.
Ok lets set the record straight. There was no BULGE left in the back of my wetsuit. Yes the menacing shark was a Seven-gilled shark (Notorynchus cepedianus). Yes these sharks can be bullies, and yes 95% of time pushing them away (or short sharp blows with a fin or butt of your gun) will get rid of them - this was not the first time diving with bully sharks.
Spearing the shark would have almost certainly resulted in losing my gun and anything attached to it. The shark was 2.5 meters plus and would have weighed in excess of 150kgs most of which is pure muscle. Thus resulting in one very pissed off fish which can swim very, very quickly and drag me along with it. Not such a good idea. One last thing, it is not illegal to spear sharks in Victoria, stupid, but not illegal (will the exception of those that are protected obviously).
Yes that is a 7 giller. They act like bullies, you just have to push them off. They seem more angry with you near their stomping ground. They react more to your heart rate and adrenline, rather then dead fish. Blood in the water makes them testy. They sometimes dont even eat the fish. Just want to bullie the divers around.
Spot on - good call. Spots, Single dorsal fin does it for me. Hungry 7 giller sounds a lot more menacing!! LOL. Glad it was not me loosing the fish and cleaning my wetsuit....
being a competition i would have shot the fuckn thing

nurse shark i think

It's tail could easily make you think it's a nurse shark.
But if you take a closer look at the form of the head and the way it moves. You can recognize it as 7-gill-shark (or however the english name is)
But is really is no bull shark^^

Sorry if this is a stupid question (I'm not a spearfisherman), but what would have happened if you had speared the shark?
jawday12345 3 years ago
the authorities will arrest you because spearing a shark is illegal. but for the sharks, biting a diver is very legal. lol
