@TekLok I'd say it stands for Mediocre. The sad thing is, I never got to see it when it played music. As long as I've known about it, it's been that stupid channel with all the bad reality shows. My parents have mentioned a few times how they used to watch mtv and they played 24 hours of music videos, and I'm thinking, oh my god, music on television, that sounds so revolutionary! So I don't know why they ever changed it, because I would actually watch it if it had music and was like this.
Seems MTV hasn't been 24/7 music since about late 1989 to early 1990. My opinion, with the shift to grunge and alt.. The mere prospect of playing that much crap would induce many suicides. With the reduction in music they saved lives and gave fast food dives endless employee pools to draw from.
@Rightsideup it wasn't even 24/7 in the 90s either. By the time this came out they were running garbage like Real Life and Road Rules and the totally awesome Remote Control (although that might have been canceled by the time this aired).

The M stands for Media, or Mainstream TV. I don't think they even acknowledge the M as music anymore.
