  • Bo Diddley e Tom Petty hanno fatto una bella versione di Mona...

  • Sick tone Mr Diddley! Damn!

  • This is my grandfather he is a kind person he most likely let him sing

  • Bo's got one amazing guitar tone. Its HISTORIC!

  • 15 ppl should just die

  • Hey Tom, Let the songwriter sing a verse.....

  • @1blastman Actually, it was uncertain whether Bo Diddley wanted to sing at all. At the time this was being filmed, he was having trouble with his vocal cords but still wanted to play. And he did sing the last verse and sounds great!

  • Who's the bass player - black shirt and blue guitar?

  • @fldonnab Bass player is Howie Epstein, passed away in 2003, probably from overdose.

  • Bo Diddley, Tom Petty, and the HA <3

  • one of the most epic performances ever between the 2 coolest men ever

  • I regret we have to see that terrible copycat spoiling a great tun of Bo Diddley!

  • best version of this song yet, two great muso's...

  • Bo Diddley!!and Tom Petty :)

  • dat rhythm/shuffle.... =D

  • Hey Bo Diddley

Tell ya what I'm gonna do

Spend every day listening to you

  • Bo's guitar never sounded better!

    by Koombaloomba

  • There's Bo, Muddy and The Wolf...and then there's everybody else. RIP Bo, and know that you are loved and never forgotten.

  • Wow, this cameraman makes me hate Tom Petty. Way to overshadow, don't give a fuck about no tom petty hat, bo diddley playin

  • HHAHAHAHA...in Venice "Mona" mean pussy and stupid!!!

  • @Mikcanaja In America Venice does'nt mean Diddley 8)

  • When was this concert? Fillmore... where?

  • @titostacos -Fillmore West I would think...

  • I love this version!

  • I loe this version.Its great.

  • Can't remember if I posted this comment. Was there, Bo steps on to the stage , looks at the crowd, all white, and says "Man this is Texas 1956 all over again". Food for thought, take it for what you want to make of it

  • Cool as sh*t.

  • I used to book BO at my many record hops. The very first time was a TEEN DANCELAND I owned in WELLSVILLE,Ohio in 1958. I remember talking to him about THAT FREIGHT TRAIN sound he was world famous for. He told me he developed it while tryng to play Gene Autry's "I've got spurs that jingle jangle jingle" People have called me a liar. Well, there it is right on WIKIPEDIA,,read that.

  • Wow! What a treat! As a Mona.. I've loved all the Mona songs ever sung! But I gotta say this one ROCKED it! Heeeeeeeyy Bo Diddly.... Heaven is a better place now with you in it!

  • @GATAMONAE If you wanta hear a super version,,hear it on his LIVE album,,it's on here RED COVER with hm playing

  • @GATAMONAE I got slapped real hard by a girl named MONA in HS,when I brushed up against her she thought I was sneaking a FEEL.. Later on I tried to take her to a dance and she said NO,,I told her I only asked her because I felt sorry for her. 50 yrs. later she told my wife at a reunion that she dated me in HS, I just smiled and kept quiet. Probably wishful thinking on her part.

  • A square guitar/? O-O

  • @sketchingpencils They're called box guitars. Bo is famous for those.

  • @tompetty1976 Gretch made that just for him. I think it can be ordered.

  • 13 people are deaf!

  • @rockerbox1973 That's not true. I have a very good friend with a deaf daughter that LOVES Tom Petty and his music. (hearing implant) She sang Free Fallin' and won concert tickets via tompetty.com. 13 people are just plain soulless pricks. :-) I wouldn't vote this video down even if I was deaf... Tom Petty is PRETTY! <3 Makes me wish my name was Mona... humnnnn...

  • exactly!

  • @rockerbox1973 Yep. :-)

  • try rebels and southern accents or even listen to her heart,Brilliant!

  • my dad and his band the now did a cover of this song. good version

  • This is awesome. Petty sings it very well

  • @WeirSpirit ...have this on dvd. but, always good to see here....

  • @im4out figures! you... library of knowledge and goodies!

    For you Mum ••♥❤(◠‿◠)❤♥••.♫♪♫•¸¸.•*¨*•

  • cool...

  • @im4out

    damn right!!

  • what did he want to say about elvis being the king at the end

  • @JanKenk123 Elvis is King, but Diddly is Daddy.

  • When I saw them at the Fillmore, Bo walks up and looks at the all white audience and says "Man, this is like Texas 1956 all over again". Read into that comment what you will. We still cheered him on.

  • bumpity bump for all eternity bo

  • Oh the splendid glorified simplicity of Bo Diddley - 1 chord song, but who would want this to end?

  • che ritornello imbarazzante :-)

  • As long as i live i vill never understand how anybody can get thumb down fore this music . Im sorry for them ! No lives i think !

  • Comment removed

  • Love Tom Petty and thiis rocks, also love Bo Diddley,as for the stones, dont care for them at all,if thats your thing then cool.

  • a perfect example when you DONT want music to stop

  • tom should have let the "MAN" take the mike and si ng it.this wuld be the way it should be.big BO thumbs up!

  • If Elvis was king, Diddly was daddy!

  • @JWL65 fuckin eh!

  • great video,, bo a true originator,,, under rated, he was 100 yrs ahead of his time, he was playing some amazing riffs back in the 50's....

  • if you think Elvis Presly invented rock & roll, you dont know Diddley...

  • @aaron4wilkins I once came upon the back of a tractor trailer truck on the Interstate and there was a bumper sticker on the back that read "IF YOU THINK ROCK&ROLL STARTED WITH ELVIS YOU DON'T KNOW "DIDDLEY" "

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959 ...wasn't me, coulda 'bn Bo??

  • Bo is the KING!!!

  • TOM SHOWING RESPECT FOR ONE OF HIS IDOLS

  • bo's fills SsssTTtttiiiIIILLL make the song

  • I like this version, second only to the original. Third would be rolling stones. I can see the love between them. It is so thick you can cut it with a knife. So much admiration and respect.

  • @justify798 I love the remastered version on the "live album" that's posted here on You Tube,,it's red with Bo posing in one of his stances on the cover. IT'S REALLY A BETTER VERSION,,if that's possible.

  • True Rock!!!!!!

  • "if'n I don't love you I'll surely die!" A perfect example of less truly being more!

  • Tom is thinkin maybe I do belong... where my hat!...how do you do that Bo? Let me show ya son... just listen to Tom's heart go bumb pide bumb!

  • I wish he was saying "Hey Debi" .

  • Fuckin eh!!!

  • Elvis is King ,but Diddley is Daddy :) Good song, & Tom is so cute as usual

  • what magic that was

  • Two good ones together = absolutely fantastic

  • Bo Diddley was so pimp... awesome^^

  • Great Stuff

  • Listen to my heart go bumpity bump!

    This is the best music!

Play it, play it everyday, play it ((LOUD))

and your day will be great!

  • Love TP!...and Bo too.

  • So Sad Many Many ORIGINATORS,INNOVATORS ROCK&ROLL GLADIATORS LIKE "BO" was overlooked. Bo once said I opened the door for a lot of people and I was left holding the KNOB. He was creating when he said that. Like I always said in my RADIO DAYS as I started one of his records THEN THERE WAS THE DAY THAT I HEARD 'BO DIDDLEY" PLAY.

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959

as crule as it is to have had him pass, at least he was around for 50+ years. Hes a legend on his own stakes, not unlike other legends who got in to drugs, overdosed then became famous.

  • @mrdube666 I think you meant to say UNIKE other legends instead of "not unlike". Bo Diddley was NEVER a doper. In my radio career I booked Bo several times and talked with him many times. I have a seasonal business up north and it's almost impossible to leave except the winter months,,then we go to Fla. near Tampa. Had I been down there when he passed I would've been at that funeral. Steven Segal was the only famous person there. I have great respect for Steven Segal now.

  • So good!!

i have never seen the square shaped guitar before!! :)

  • @hardgreenhorn You gotta be kiddin' What rocker hasn't seen THAT guitar.

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959 ~IT IS THE ROCKER LIKE ME!! no kidding at all, i Dont shy to say i have never seen THAT guitar!!

  • @hardgreenhorn He had GRETCH make that guitar "on purpose" just for him. It can be bought from a GRETCH dealer,,at least i think it still can. Bo was the very first recording star that I booked for one of my RECORD HOPS in 1958 TEEN DANCELAND above the post office in downtown WELLSVILLE,OHIO I was in radio many years,,many stations THEMOJOMAN*COM

  • OMG THIS SONG IS AWESOMEEEE

  • Unreal!

  • Yea, Gainesville here represent! I heard there were only two "celebrities" at his service...one was some old school classic rock bass player of medium "success" and the other...none other than Steven Segal. What upsets me is that people like Clapton, the Stones, and countless other artists have claimed to love and respect Bo, yet not one of them were there to pay their final respects. He truly died a poor old blues man. BUT his legacy and prosperity lives on in grander things!

  • @lazloleaf Now I have much more respect for STEVEN SEGAL. But remember some of those RECORDING STARS are under contract and had shows to do. Shame Tom Petty wasn't there.

  • @lazloleaf Remember most of them can't just 'walk out on a booking". But I do have SUPER RESPECT for Steven Segal NOW. I get down to N.O. and if I catch him doing his new cop show I'm gonna SHOUT IT OUT TO HIM.

  • The universe before and the universe after the bo diddley beat were not the same. Everything, not just music, changed fundamentally in ways it will take several generations to understand.

  • @CroatAndNettles That is a beautiful comment.

  • One from Gainesville and one Lived in Gainesville.. lol gotta love florida!! RIP Bo Diddley

  • I met Bo at a Lowes getting a hotdog filled with saurkraut. He was wearing his trademark hat and I asked if it was truly him. Ho looked at me and asked me if I played and I said yes. He said hold on, paid for his hotdog and said follow me. We walked to his car and hi searched for a piece of paper amongst the cluttery mess. He game me his phone number and said lets jam. I was only 14 and sucked. Never called him. Still have the piece of paper though.

  • @lazloleaf oh my gosh!!!

  • Hell wat a Buzzz that must have been for you. What a shame you didnt jump at it .

You know some of the Best in the world have orginally thought they to "Sucked" as you put it ..... it was only thru others pushing them and Inspirating them did they then go on to become famous in their own right .......

  • Thanks, man!

  • RIP B.D. you will be remembered for ever.

  • is it just me or does anyone else find Tom to be pretty darn hot in that cowboy hat?

  • @freefallin64 iT'S JUST YOU. THE HAT AND THE HAIR DISTRACT FROM HIS FACE. I love Tom and the guys and their songs but he ain't goodlooking. NICE GUY THOUGH

  • Asked about his guitar-style Bo Diddley on discribed it with following comment:

"I play drums licks on a guitar!"

I like to invite you to watch my BLUESCARTOON (playlist) vol. 4 on Bo Diddley.

I played all instruments & did the animation. I hope you'll find the time to watch & hopefully enjoy it.

    bye

Any info about Bo's old marracas player JEROME GREEN will be appreciated (same with BILLY BOY ARNOLD's bass playing Brother Jerome Arnold of Butterfield band fame)

  • Bo was the man! What year was this done?

  • @TheGordonfan

In 1999 off the Heartbreakers live DVD High Grass Dogs: Live at the Fillmore

  • Why dont ya'll leave your egos and at the door and just enjoy it for what it is!!...FFS!!..I just love peeps trying to impress with their knowledge of the arcane. WGAF?!...

  • @semilost RIGHT ON !! WGAF but please explain FFS

  • Then there was that day, I heard Bo Diddly play.

  • @chiburui6 I LOVE WHAT YOU SAID AND IT'S "SO TRUE". I was in radio for years and BO was my friend and I used to "intro" his records with "AND THEN ONE DAY,,I HEARD BO DIDDLEY PLAY."

  • @chiburui6 RIGHT ON !! I always said that very same thing as I introed his records years ago on my radio shows. And with JB,,,I'd just scream into the mic "James & The Flames" Never saying the 'name" of the song,,cause the audience already knew.

  • I love this song. Bo has a rockin guiitar!

  • bo diddley is the blues in the track :D

  • COOL it's totally a SONG with my NAME in it. HOW EFFING cool is THAT. WOOT for incessant CAPITALIZATION of WORDS and i have nothing valid to say other THAN comment ON the OTHER comments.

    i enjoy this song. :D

  • I spent a LOTTA YEARS IN RADIO and I can tell you this,,BO told me himself in 1958 in Wellsville,Ohio that he CREATED HIS SOUND trying to play GENE AUTRY's

" I'VE GOT SPURS THAT JINGLE AND JANGLE" on guitar. AND THAT'S THE TRUTH.

  • I love this version more than all the others ( M.Jagger's included)

    Thanks for posting this ,Marco!

  • I've got a vinyl bootleg of Bruce doing this. Live at the Roxy, I think, circa 1979. Very deep. Makes this sound like the Rubinoos.

  • It doesn't get any better. These guys get it.

    crow

  • I miss BO.

    I fully support MOJOMAN comment.

  • hot, hot, hot!!! Ich liebe diesen Song!

  • Bonk bonk bonk......... bonk bonk.

    Always loved that beat

  • banjometal NO MAN,, "IT'S SHAVE AND AH HAIR CUT,,TWO BITS." or BANG DA BANG BANG,,BANG BANG ! no K in there

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959 - Well if yer gonna put a DA after the first BANG you should really put in the one after the second, add a pause then throw in a DA just before the next one. I was going minimalistic.

BANG DA BANG DA BANG ..... DA BANG BANG As for the Stones etc. doing it "better", I love 'em all but you can't really say someone that designs a more efficient furnace did more to keep your house warm than the guy who discovered how to make fire. It's all good

  • Sublime, géniale, excelent, verry good . Georges de Livry Gargan (France)

  • knock the fucking doors off that thing Bo!

  • cause you know Elvis is king, but Diddley is daddy

  • Fantastic! Thanks for posting it

  • Bo ROCKS

  • I digged it.

  • cool

  • Dig bos homemade guitar

  • kaja66 NOT HOMEMADE "GRETCH" made them for him. BETTER READ UP ON YOUR ROCK HISTORY

  • Homemade as in CUSTOM ... get it mojoboy

  • Nice vid, G.

  • elvis is a queen amongst gods like diddlley, berry, muddy, hendrix, buddy, albert king, and countless other rock originators

  • does anyone know what tom petty says at the end? its cut off, and i'd really like to hear his take on who the real king is :D

  • "Elvis is King, but Diddley his daddy."

  • thanks, and yep that is true! :D

  • To us blues freaks he is King, let the Rockabillies have their King Elvis.

  • the only description i find suitable for bo diddley is that he is ONE BAD CAT!

rest in peace, the only true originator we should all thank for.

  • Bo Diddley was my friend and I will miss him the rest of my life. First recording STAR that I ever booked for one of my many RECORD HOPS,,1958 Wellsville,Ohio THEMOJOMAN(.)COM

  • AMAZING TONE from Bo ... like seriously a rare find is something that spectacular

  • I love Bo Diddley. I love Tom Petty. I was ecstatic when I first saw this.

  • i can honestly say that my family and i have a long and rich history with both of these very talented musicians. Bo lived and died in the same town i grew up in archer,fl. i would often see him @ my father's automotive shop, or just riding around town. Sporting his infamous black hat. Tom was the son of a local insurce salesman in gainesville. often times he & his father would come by my grandparents home on sales calls. this was of course in the mid 70's.

  • MONA the beat oh yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a nice song name!

    and the song isn't bad:p

  • you can feel the music and the passion in this performance and that's what music should be!
