Hmm... the in-door still video looked a little sharper on the U10, but outside colours look a lot nicer on the Kodak, not to mention macro.

Yes it's definaetly better quality picture and focus than the Samsung, but the sound quality not as good, but it's all about the picture, I can live with that.

They are referring to just the software. I have a mac and both the Samsung U10 and Kodak Zi8 can be used with them. It mounts just like a disk image on a mac the same as if you were mounting a flash drive. You can also update the firmware just fine on the mac.

With the internal memory how long can you record for? Is it necessary to get an sd card for it?

I think its 128mb probaby something like 1 minute in standard definition and 30 seconds in 720p. You can shoot probably 30-40 photos, so external memory is a must. My advice is go on ebay and buy and "8gb topram class 6 sd card". You can find them for $20. Do not buy one at a place like best buy, they'll charge you around $80-100 for the same thing.

Ok, cool. I actually just purchased a Zi6 from Amazon a few minutes ago. They're $159.95 off of Kodak's website but it was $99 brand new from Amazon! I thought that was a great deal and had to get it! I also got a Transcend 8 GB SDHC Class 6 for $17.66.

I think you're right. I believe the Sam records audio in stereo too, whereas the Zi8 only records mono. However, the Ki8 has an external audio jack that can record stereo, so if you have an external mic, you can get better audio with it.

I returned the kodak zi8 and exchanged with Xacti CG10 for 60 dollars more from best buy.

Huge difference Xacti is very good in Quality equal to those expensive $500+ cams

for your own sake never smoke pot cause if you talked any slower you'd be talking backwards. 6mins later and i have no idea whether the interface is easy to use, what file formats it uses, batteries, etc. You know, the useful stuff that ppl base purchases on. not ..."my guitar looks pretty in this light". LOL

Good effort for trying but get off the pot and take a look at another review before you claim to know something that you have just aquired. And don't feel bashed, just become aware.

Nope, I told the people at Best Buy I'm not paying their restocking fee if I do an exchange. So it was pretty much either gimme the Kodak or give me the money back on my credit card with the fee.

Anyone that uses the light from ANY camera seems foolish, it's a little light bulb not really design to give you proper lighting. That's why News Orgs use BIG Pole Lamps; Light is not up to the camera it's up to the user to supply. All flashes on a camera are lame. Just turn the lights on in your house,, or use 100 watts bulbs! I would never use a small stupid pen light on a camera if I wanted to take a nice video.

Now Stills; which is very important to me; I don't want 2 cameras 1 for stills and 1 for video. I can tell you for sure that 5mp to a 10mp is a HUGE difference. So how can it compare.? I need you to send me the REAL source files 1 from each camera in same lighting etc... so I can tell myself! Can you email them or send a link to a site, use tinyURL if you dont have one that supports larger files. PLEASE!

I found the samsung sound may be great in one way, but not the other way. in a moving object, not good at al. I will have one clip up soon about low leve comparison, and you be suprized . I wil lsay thesamsung fails with LOW level, while Kodak states the cam is not for night time use LOL

Yeah the Kodak is surprisingly acceptable for being stated as "bad" for nighttime use. The Samsung gives a greenish tint and completely washes out any color or definition in low light.

really. coloring is good here on it, just my review i cal headlight only shown lower of light not the full while all others grabbed full. thesamsung is softer in nightwith a saphire hue

I've seen your Samsung HMX-U10 video and I got to say the only advantage of this camera is the sound quality but the Zi8 got even more advantage by making you able to hook up an external microphone which will dramatically improve the recording sound quality!

I agree, the Kodak mic isn't as good as the Samsung's mic. The reason I got the Samsung in the first place was the stereo mic system in it because I assumed video quality would be equal in both and I found out the Kodak is much better.

i think this camera is great. do you suffer from this vertical line problem people are talking about? I've got one coming in a few days. Yuo also have wicked side burns! You have a look of dave grohl about you, or thats who you remind me of. I dunno why i mentioned that though, haha but thanks for the video i can't wait to test mine out.

The camera is very good. I upgraded to the latest firmware and did notice that in very low light there can be vertical lines, very light and minor. There is no audio hum or zoom issues in the latest firmware though so thats a plus. In all likelihood you probably won't notice the problem and it will probably be soon fixed by Kodak.
