thats pretty good. she was only off balance for a second or two despite being hit from behind by a person much bigger than her. nice. she's well trained.
This martial art was actually designed by the japanese legend E. Honda. What you are watching is called "the hundred hand slap". Best aimed at the muscular area on the chest.
@pokoto007 it's actually much safer than a punch. the bones in the wrist are much stronger than the phalanges of the hand.. ( 4 times the size) if you know how to do a palm heel strike, you will have a much higher "PSI" ratio than with a punch.
Closed fists especially to the head risk the chance of breaking your own knuckles. People hope they can overcome a fight with a broken knuckle which is possible. Palm strikes lower this risk especially to the chest. Hardening ones knuckles is possible but usually takes time and many methods cause pain. I use closed fists to the jaw myself. I understand and respect what they are doing. She does over exagerate when she pivots for a strike. This is a beginners technique.
this is excellent exercise and horrible self defense. If I hit someone with an open palm strike it would take one efficient targeted strike 2 stop my attacker. also if you have your forward leaning forward like that you make it easy for someone 2 throw you off balance or throw you. Also repeatitive strikes are easily defended especially if vital area arent being hit. Also you can can only punch like that for so long w/o becoming exhausted.
@levi8then I was considering the innefficiency of turning on the toes. Much more power will be generated without that while also you will not have sacrificed your root to the ground. I realize many practitioners use this method as well as baseball pitchers and boxers, but my personal thoughts are that it leaves a high risk and I favor not taking risks. I am a small person and my only hope is using the ground. LIft the heal = i get tossed.
@sloppymantis exactly; I been studying ju-jitsu for several years off and on, & 1 of the 1st we learn is 2 never put your weight on your front foot because. If I have my foot rooted when I strike I can use whole body not just my upper torso. Im looking at this video thinking that the women in it will have a false confidence and will probably get hurt in a real confrontation. I have a daughter and when I begin 2 train her to protect herself I will teach her 2 hit vital areas with maximus power.
@levi8then Don't get me wrong though, action is superior to inaction.. it is possible that a confrontation may occur in which simply being aggressive will save her. As for me I have not taken any classes but I diligently study trig and physics as it relates to the body. ANgles and directions of force and, as you mentioned, the weakness of the human body. I have to wonder how modified this US Krav maga compared to the original teachings? I've mad some vids lately id be interested in your comment!
@sloppymantis I agree and disagree. Because if she uses inefficient attacks that would aggrevate an attacker instead of stopping him or shocking him to open a window of escape the attacker may become more aggresive. But I totally agree with sloppymantis "action is superior to inaction". There are some punks out there who attack ppl because they think there easy prey but if the victim fights back they scare off.
She should be learning techniques that handle both situations.
@levi8then My friend, that is why when people occassionally ask me to teach (i am not a good teacher hahah) I always start with basic structure. I have seen some self defense vids that "to me" seem like they'd get themselves into deeper trouble. I never "dance" around either due to wanting to conserve energy and reduce risk. I attempt to Never take risks. I have a feeling the krav maga we see here is not the original? My family kung fu is more like wing chun or southern mantis not tae kwan do.
I understand your points but I have to agree with sloppy mantis. She is not perfect and can make her strikes more precise. Forward leaning has its advantages and disadvantages. I have been training MMA on and off for a while myself. It allows more power but does open gates. The strategy of the technique is a unusual aggression. This can throw off a unwary opponent. Most people are probably not going to expect such a aggressive defense. There is no one right action.

I really don't think teaching untrained people to use Palm-Strikes as a means of self defence, especially to the chest area, this is really sloppy.
