back in 90 I remember seeing this guy in a metal mag and thinking who the fuck is this kiss wannabe...a few weeks later i saw the cassette tape on my buddies desk, it was conspiracy.....i thought `heres that weird lookin dude again` i secretly took it it to listen to it. I thought i knew what metal was...i couldn't have been more wrong...
I've always thought of Them/Conspiracy as the yang to Genesis' The lamb lies down on Broadway yin. Combined my most appreciated contemporary recordings. And this song, and the last, ultra melodic guitar lead, my favorites. Taught me a lot about music. Thanks King, Andy, and Mikkey for enriching the world.
Back in the 80's, was any band that was remotely satanic lyrically was labelled Black Metal.. and early KD/MF certainly fit that description. I don't see it as Black Metal myself, but it was called that in the early zines and such. Even Power Metal wasnt what's considered Power Metal now.
can't understand why people call king diamond black metal ! NO! this isn't black metal; this is heavy metal, speed metal ! because of king diamond's vocals and lyrical themes, some fans call this kind of music horror metal ! King Diamond only influenced the black metal scene ! nothing more! Mercyful Fate however had an even greater influence on the early black metal scene, but they also aren't black metal; only heavy metal, speed metal and also some thrash metal traits! pff... is that difficult?
I think the black metal label is because he wears corpse paint- I was just thinking about that! Black metal is like Immortal. They're both satanic so maybe someone just got confused?
i remember when i was a kid i thought king diamond was a awsome heavy metal wrestler i thought he was A warior lmao i was like 5 listening to this. so fucking evil
The comic is kinda cheesy IMO. All these years I've never envisioned King in Them / Conspiracy as his storyteller stage persona with makeup and costumes. I always saw him in the stories as his regular self only younger. I always wanted to see animation of the whole story done in the same style as the "at the graves" pic inside the cover. Very dramatic.
good job!! cd's at the bottom of the last creek to come kreepin' over the floor board of my jeep... from the swamps of central florida... mud!... metal!!... meyham!!!

Guess they thought he would look uncool if he was portrayed as just an ordinary kid.
