I know a lot of people get pissed off with comments linking music to Miami Vice but for me that programme opened me up to music that I would not normally have listened too :)
Hummmm, Clasic at it best, I'm guessing this song was writtten for his soon to be ex-wife, What? they had 20 plus years if memory serves me right? But if I may say so is he not a %&$#*(& musical genius? Kudos Phil, For putting what we feel in words, a true prodigy of music.
From 3:20 on he sings straight from the bottom of his soul... Only real life could create this in him.. His pain is our catharsis by the power of his words......Amazing
Had this song playing on my way to court for my divorce..I got custody of my child.. The house .. I sold.. I received $503.00 a month clild support.. That song prepared me for war.. By the way.. I am a man.. Judges love for a man to have their children.
If I know you or don't,this song will always be dedicated to whoever claimed to be a friend or just enjoyed stabbing me in the back...I never did beleive them much anywaylol. Thanx for the tubage.
I have enough, too. About my familiy, not about my own familiy. I love my husbend and my children. But I`m very angry about my mother and about the wife from my brother! They say about of my own family only "bullshit" and the wife of my brother is happening and laughing about this. I hope they end by the devil.... My mother still believe about this, what she say. I have today no contact to my mother ... while she so bad saying about to me..... :o(((
Hummm, I'm I remember this all to well, Phil is a mentor of mine, and Kudos for putting our words and feelings into music with such feeling and depth, What an awsome artist and prodigy of the the feel of music and the human soul.
okay, I just read the last few comments that preceded my post, you asses need to reread this song, re listen, this is not a bitter song. It's a statement, not vengeful, just a statement.
I remember the evening years ago when my b/f left a snippet of "Stupid Girl" by Garbage on my voicemail and instead of calling him and yelling at him, I got out my Phil Collins tape and left this song on his voicemail for as long as it would let me record it. He tried calling me ELEVEN times after that and I simply kept picking up and hanging up the phone on his punk axx. Needless to say, I won that fight.
Great lyrics! So cool to get the last word and put 'em in their place! But, in the song..you realize you really don't need 'the last word; cuz u don't care no mo lol cuz u r so done with the whole mess! Im SO glad an old boyfriend made me pay attn to this song as he loved it b/c of a break up of his own past. I knew the song but never really paid attn to it. Now it is absolutely one of my all time faves. and sry Paul, chewing the same gum for over 3 days isn't cool, its gross. l8rz lol
My 2-1/2 year old loves the beat and the emotion to this song (I am literally screaming it lol) and my 31-week fetus is jumpin around in my belly to the beat. Wow. Another 2 Phil Collins fans! They seem to like 80's music, just like Mama. :D
I think everyone should have this on a playlist entitled "THERAPY". Along with the songs; Phil Collins-In The Air, Peter Gabriel-Solsbury Hill, Billy Joel-Allentown and James Taylor-Fire and Rain!
@firststrike31 - I like your combination of songs for therapy. It's amaziing Phil and Peter were in Genesis together. A lot of talent in one band. My favorite song of theirs together is carpet crawlers - got to get in to get out....Also, James Taylor's first album. - Sunshine, try that song out. Excelllent
Try working with my staff. These kids dont know good music and I get blank looks anytime I mention something more then 5 years old. And I'm not even 30
@chefmackenzie Shit I know!! I hate these lil bastards today...its not music!! they're so lame n i hate when they act like they're "bringing back" glam rock with "scene" shit! when they were born in effing NiNeTEEN NINETY FOUR!!! i wanna trip those little freaks everytime i see one.
im only 18 and yes i listen to some of the modern bands to but i grew up listening to ppl like meatloaf, queen, alice cooper, metallica, phil collins, the animals etc and they are still better and can run circles round the new bands. the new bands are ok yes but we gotta love golden oldies. i admire the bands like metallica and phil collins too cos how long have they been around? & their still going!! :D wheras ppl like pink (altho mega awesome) i cant imagine stil being their 20 yrs in future
Is that Darryl Schurmah on Guitar? Chester on Drums, i dont know whos on piano? What is the machine where the guy is pounding the keys down with his fist, later on in the song?
yes, this song is an absolute classic.they always had phil collins songs in classic 80;s tv shows like miami vice and magnum pi.
this song is featured in "no exit' on the first season of miami vice.bruce willis plays a great bad guy in this episode, and this song fits in magically at the end shootout.
isn't it interesting after all these years and still people love Phil Collins and Genesis. I first heard them some 30 some odd years ago, and was hooked. And judging from the comments, they still have the same effect...,
@UMGMentor you are so right. Same here--loved Phil & Genesis for 30 yrs now, can listen over and over and it just gets better! Phil and I share 30 Jan birthday =)
I always wondered who is playing drums, it is just as awsome as phil's, I wonder if its "chesta", from Phil's Music Video "I wish it would rain down"? The Janitor Eric Clapton suggests?
@TayouJin Phil Collins has soul, regardless of color. I don't think color/race has anything to do with soul. You can just hear the raw emotion in his songs, and the instruments and his voice are awesome. Phil Collins adequately satisfies the music listener's ears cravings!
You Know What? Phil Said all there is needed to be said. I like the way he made his point across. We all come to a point in our lives where we all just say I Don't Care Anymore. Basicly a middle finger to the world.
wow, what a song. i remember this in the episode "no exit" Miami Vice with bruce willis. when tubbs get on the ship to do the deal and it ends with a fire fight, bruce gets arrested.
Every time I hear this song I think of the magic trick with David Copperfield balanced on the edge of a sword. He used this song as the background for that trick. Ahhh....memories.
I never saw this video until now. It was good for what an 80's live performance music video would give you. Although I have to say I liked the energy of him singing this song at the Perkins Palace. Seeing him move all around and make the facial expressions, was much better than the more dreary sound of this vid. Still 2 great performances.
I always wonder if he wrote this song talking about his first wife who left him. He tries to show he don't care about her anymore but still did? Hard to say since he was starting a relationship with his second wife by this time in 1982. Still a very gripping and chilly song even more of an impact than In the Air Tonight.
This song is one of the most helpful piece of music ever written.
Everyone will relate to this at some point. And this song will help them.
People around you are not you. You are you, and you should do whatever the fuck you feel like doing if you feel it's the right thing.
You can ask around for advice, but you have to understand most people view life as a competition, and the most widespread piece of advice is "don't do it" so if "don't do it" isn't an option, this song is your option.

reminds me of someone who i thought was a good friend of mine and my family's, but turned out to be a total backstabbing bitch - she knows who she is.............

@squonkynut
bro did the girl call the cops on you after fucking you a week before and having dinner with your parents at your house?
cause this is the type of girl im dealing with
at one moment everythings cool with me and my family
im actually fucking her thinking things are going smoothly only to unjustly have the cops called on me
bitches be crazy and im not a woman abuser but she almost makes me look like one....never lay a hand on a woman but let em know what they are
