  • nice is very good

  • Great video.

  • Also where did you ind your specifcations and tolerances for the head. i have been looking and havent been able to find much

  • im going to be building an SR20DET head im my college engine machining class. i have a question if you dont mind.

    1. does the head have aluminum valve seats? or are they of another material?

  • @burkeeluvshiscivic - Laser clad valve seats are not used in this engine like some other cars, it has iron metal seats.

  • @burkeeluvshiscivic

It would be suicide to make a turbo engine with aluminium valve seats- the exhaust temperature would scorch them.

  • @douro20 - Do you know anything about laser clad valve seats? Toyota, Suzuki, and several other manufacturers are using them in some of their engine and they hold up quite well - where did you get your information? Or, is this from personal experience?

  • @fiatnutz

Are you talking about a process to metallise aluminium valve seats?

  • Kind of looks to me that both the head and the block were mounted wrong a little on the resurfacing machine. Of course that still doesn't account for the clearly defined marks and surface issues that were present.

  • Hello Mr Edwards!

I was wondering, what was the Ra before resurfacing the head? What is the Ra if someone uses a scotch brite to clean the old head gasket material?

  • I have seen it all to often..And it happens more often that the person is not so much trying to resurface the head with a scotch bright pad but more so using the pad to clean off old gasket material and not realizing they are taking material from the head creating high and low spots..3m Sells a really nice Disc called a "roloc" Disk and its made to be used on a 90 Degree air tool or standard drill and will remove gasket material without harming aluminum or cast iron! it's a great piece to have!

  • whoever the fuck tried to resurface that shit with a sander if a dumb son of a bitch!

  • thats all mecanics that do that to heads they think they can help the engine builder by sanding the head-block down

  • 17.9 Ra nice nice :]

  • what do you think about using a brass wire wheel on a block? is this bad?

  • yaaaaaaaaaaay

  • john just a question do you think that a better seal can be achieved through fibrous gaskets with a rougher machined surface, perhaps rough ground in the case of cast iron blocks, or smoother surfaces with metallic gaskets ?

    I have heard mixed opinions

  • Can't believe someone tried to clean it with a disc sander...

  • What it is is those Scoch Brite pads, they take off waaay more than you can imagine. My machinest says he's made a fortune resurfacing blocks and heads because people keep using them

  • We used to have a large steel thing, like a carpenters plane, flat and heavy, you put your production paper on the bottom and cleaned it over. The weight did all the work.

  • I might have to get a surface grinder..

  • just like the engine block he has it mounted wrong I work for nissan and faactory mistakes do not happen with that

  • what does resurfacing the area to the head do ?

  • It shaves of any uneveness or warpage. Therefore the the headgasket can provide a "perfect" seal across the head.

  • Perfectly flattens/levels the head for the gasket to seal.

  • pretty sweet

  • Cool
