  • billi duffy so much better que slash

  • Matt Sorum pre Gunners (Steve Adler was better for GnR when sober).

  • Comment removed

  • I saw them live around this time in '89, Sonic Temple tour. His voice was the same. Shot. Here he's singing to a tape of the band. He's the only one live. I really liked this band until I saw them live.

  • Even the vocals in the chorus are canned.

  • gary busey on lead vocals?

  • though this performance had most of the instrumentals dubbed in, you can still clearly see that this band...in its prime..just drove people wild. hell, one look at the audience going wild would tell ya that.

  • i didn't know patti the millionaire matchmaker was also the lead singer of the cult

  • @PorchM0nky4Life envy...

  • can anyone tell me in witch cult albums matt sorum played?

  • @PSETojo1 He´s been in and out but I think the only full album he´s playing on is "Beyond good and evil".

  • Who is singing that "Ohhh... Yeah" shit? Playback?

  • David Copperfield

  • Nagyon jó!!!

  • He looks like a young Gary Busey with long black hair. It's quite disturbing actually. Awesome band though.

  • Haha...... noone singing in some chorus parts, no second guitarist but still amazing to watch! What a fantastic head of hair! The cult rock forever

  • respect from serbia!!!!!!

    i had a 15 years than!!!!

  • Am I the only person on earth who thinx Ian Astbury and Pete Burns of Dead Or Alive sound muuuuch alike? I'd like 2 hear them cover eachothers song... killer fn baritones

  • sebastian bach on guitar! :)

  • Remember recording this from TV to VHS before internet and before Youtube. Ah, the 80's. Awesome music and vocals, and when the singer looks like "that" it's just a bonus! Hot rock goth God. Ian's still great even today. Keep rockin us!

  • Wow i remember this. Love it.

  • guess who's coming to belgrade? :)

  • 5-14-2011. Ain't it fine. Ian Astbury is 49. Happy Birthday, Ian. I'll be joining you in July (at 49, that is). BTW, I saw you all in February 1990 at the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia. Dangerous Toys and Bonham opened. Remember? Many happy returns today.

  • God...I remember watching this!!! When MTV actually had music instead of shows about knocked up teens nitwits.

  • @DJMarcO138 ...same here taped it on the old VHS in high school, good times.

  • When MTV was good!

  • I miss good music.

  • @TheKatandpat

AMEN brother! really ..really miss talent......

  • rock at its best . keep your poison, motley crue ,cinderella, twisted sister, bon jovi, etc. .i will take the cult anyday .

  • Ian looks as though he could use some hands-on, so to speak...

  • playback instrumental with true voice only??...

  • @marchello351 Yeah, unfortunately not a choice of the band, most likely. MTV probably had to save time and move the show along, so they avoided live setups for a lot of the bands that night. Sucks. I'd be embarrassed as hell knowingly faking my own guitar or drum work. Astbury isn't singing during part of the chorus, either.

  • @Politcalamity yeah!! The Cult isn't the responsible. I buy recently Fire Woman, Love and Electric in vinyl!! the discs are in perfect condition.

    a big hug from Argentina.

  • if you want to see first hand the power of this band and this song, look at the first 5 rows of people at this music awards event. they're literally going out of their minds. that folks...is rock!

  • When you have corporate mtv telling you what to do etc...yeah mtv was good...the bands did live or pre recorded vocals and played with a backing track..if you saw the cult live they were either great.. terrible or awesome on the night ..thats rockin roll its real... beacause there's o much monet acts use backing tracks to make the concert reasonable... pay your money get the value ( not)....the real music is still hear just look for it...Byron bay blues festival is one!!!

  • i think this band is one of last TRUE ROCK&ROLL bands or their time. great band, gooood music! and Ian with his killer voice man!

  • there's a second guitar but no second guitar player...

  • Umm, how come there is a chorus when nobody is near a mic?

  • Yeah, his voice is rough! Must be terrible not to be able to perform your own new single.

  • @TubeFreakJonas im sure he cried everytime he took one of his paychecks to the bank.

  • amazing!!

  • hi hate shit like thii love ian and the cult but its obvious they got a vocal track playimg for the chorus-piss off

  • @regardingwave Not always the choice of the band.

  • holy fuck! thats good in my ears!

  • hello music industry.... what happened to rock n roll???

  • I'm glad Ian is nothing like Glen Danzig.

  • ian looks and sounds similar to glen danzig.

  • amazing!!!!!!

  • Saw these guys open for Aeromith about 2004. The audience didnt have a clue who they were listening to. They rocked the place.

  • @greg19670 A fan of Aerosmith not knowing who The Cult are? the world is shit

  • Obv playback except the lead vocals...LAME!

  • Not trolling here, but did this guy really sing on the released version? I have yet to see a live performance where he does the vocals worth a flyin' hoot. This one is better than the other vids posted here, but it still falls far short.

  • lady and gentleman, rock n'roll

  • The Cult is so perfect...

  • the most underrated band in the 1980's

  • @tcommll Nearly, but what about The The?

  • @tcommll the original cult

  • When music was live!

  • Alberto VO 5! rules!

  • Matt Sorum crushes on drums. Is there anyone who hasn't played drums with The Cult? Those guys go through drummers like they are going out of style. Spinal Tap has nothing on those guys.

  • This is my favorite song by The Cult, since I was born in December, I am a Fire Sign. :) So I am a Fire Woman :)

  • @katieincolorado happy birthday

  • @katieincolorado Yay... Me too! ;);)

  • Nice! hair Ian

  • Matt Sorum before GN'R

  • Glad I found you again Cult! Rock it!!!!

  • I love it when he screams like a redneck at 0:27. Hilarious! :D

  • Hot Hot Hot!!! Loved being front row at their concert in `93!!!

  • Good times for MTV !!

  • @JakeMansonNYC Yup- MTV was great in the 80's & up to the mid 90's. I wont even watch it now. I can't stand this BS so called "music" that's out now.

It's a bunch of C-Rap, Hip-Slop & tards like Gaga & Bieber....MTV SUCKS! The music of today sucks! Hardly any good bands...The only good ones are the older 80's & 90's bands that are touring! :)

  • Ok maybe not, but hey I roused some comments. Oh by the way my eyesight is pretty bad, ha :)

  • @windyhillsss LOL- I think you do need some glasses! :)

  • @JakeMansonNYC It's Astbury ... and no way.

  • Uma das melhores bandas do mundo! THE CULT ...4 EVER!!!!

  • If Gary Busey was in his twenties and had long black hair they would look alike.

  • @windyhillsss Thanks for that comparison. You just ruined Ian Astbury for me ... forever ... *gag*

  • @windyhillsss Oh dear GAWD! They would NOT look the same! Get better glasses & contacts to go under the glasses! LOL :)

  • Gary Busey sings fire woman!!!

  • @cpedge WTF??

  • no Its not a wig

  • must have made Ian nervous to sing to this tape

  • This is one of those PERFECT heavy songs. I'll never forget a particular day back in 89' parked in the driveway..turned off the motor and cranked the stereo as loud as it would go...and nearly knocked myself out hitting my head on the steering wheel going absolutely ape-shit to this song. I would put this up against ANYTHING! Metallica, AC/DC, Black Sabbath...you name it and Fire Woman is right up there with the very best.

  • mtv crap today, gods from yesterdays, agree

  • @hardtobluff Well, more like auto-tune... cuz the lyrics aren't the same.

  • @hardtobluff lol, just the chorus, but his voice is shot here, too much boozing! lol

  • I cant imagine any cooler song than this, it doesnt get any better!

Thats pure rock n roll, The Cult is THE band!!

  • Heck no he aint got no wig. Let me run my fingers through your hair Ian.

  • @poopapie I'm having a hairgasm~!! Love Ian's hair! That idiot thinks it's a wig! LOL

I just saw them a few weeks ago. His voice is back. He sang GREAT! Sounded soooo good! He's growing that hair out too :)

  • @poopapie Ian wig? Are you crazy! I've met Ian and he's got hair like an Indian God or warrior! He use to iron his hair back then I've heard him say. He's still got all this hair. It's incredible. What sux is he's singing live here and the band is just faking it.

  • Wig.

  • @onebrightmonkey you've obviously never seen The Cult live or you would know that isn't a wig.

  • @onebrightmonkey LMAO! That's NOT a wig...SMH!

  • @onebrightmonkey Uh- A wig would fall off with all that movin. That's his hair....beautiful hair!

  • WOW!!!! One of the greatest live bands of generation X

    Nut you better like :)

  • Dang when music meant something.

  • I love the Cult but they're lip-syncing the chorus.

  • great band. I hear both lead and rhythm guitars, but only see the lead and bass.....is this a click track? if so its well done. they tended not to take a second guitar on the road, which made their sound very hollow and not as full as the studio versions of their songs.

  • What is where is the fire woman vidieo where ian's laying on the side of the stage kicking like a mad man during the outro of this song, he's got a big hole in the knee of his leathers, Ive seen it once. anybody know?

  • live'ish. Wow'ish.

  • when the hell was gary busey in a rock band?

  • @midatlanticcycle LOL!! Ya I see the resemblance a bit ...but Ian Astbury is way Hotter

  • Too perfect, too drugged out, too righteous, too visual, too sexy, way TOO much better than anything today!!!

  • @skylab20

    So well said....

  • @skylab20

    So well said

  • @Amaryllis28 Thank ya! Miss this style.

  • Ian may be the coolest man on the planet ... well, other than me haha

  • Well said Dark Team. Take your pop crap today and shove this in your eardrums kiddies. THIS is music. MTV is a waste of HD airwaves.

  • Cool.

  • I like The Cult but.....Ian, voice finished uh?!

  • @HormoRock75

Nah, dude. I was alive back then. They toured so much that year, Ian almost needed a lung transplant.

  • @HormoRock75 I just saw them. His voice sounds GREAT! :)

  • dude... i am a dude and I envy his hair. I bet lots of girls do too... He reminded pete from type o.... awesome song (with or without cool hair)!!! I will tell you truthfully!!!!

  • @edbald

He kinda has a native american look goin with all that hair.

  • @JoeSidhu well the Cult is heavily inspired by Native American mysticism.

  • Matt Sorum was playing there! awesome, guns also played that night!! who knew back the he was gonin to be their dummer!! haha

  • @nachoriqon Too funny G'n'R used to open for The Cult :)

  • That rocked \m/

  • Lady Gaga and all the pop stuffs are fag music. This is a real legend of rock, not like Justin Bieber... These guys are awesome. Make the difference: FAG VS LEGENDS and they prefer fags... People actually listen to bad stupid music and they have possibility to listen to The Cult. At least these one have some talents. The Cult for ever!

  • Perfect!

  • @JakeMansonNYC well said

  • Oh yeah what a decade the 80s were

  • The Cult forever!!!!!

  • I love this song

  • i want one of those hot tub time machines to take my ass back to 1984

  • Best fuckin band ever.. Long live rock n´ roll

  • This is the first time I ever saw The Cult, I was about 11 years old... I instantly fell in love with Ian!

  • @DevinaSarine LOL- me too. I was 12 and Ian was in Southern Death Cult. Ohhhhh....I've been drooling & enjoying the music ever since :)

  • This is great! (Despite its just karaoke hehe) Thanks A LOT for posting THIS!!!!

  • que chapas tenían en esa época!

  • Awesome - fabulous group - the lead singer does look like a young Gary Busey with long hair. LOL I totally agree, windyhillsss

  • the leadsinger looks like Gary Busey with long hair, Ha. The Cult is great I always loved this song

  • @windyhillsss WTF? Gary Busey is in his 70's. They look NOTHING alike! Andddd EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW !!! LOL!

  • @WENCHY101 "EWWWWWWWWW" is my sentiment exactly.

  • @Aphrodizzle I know! I read that & just thought 'no fkn way!' LOL :)

  • ian astbury had the greatest hair of any musician ever.

  • Singer seems to be kickin' ass on the mic........why not let the rest of the band play live? MTV always found a way to fuck up a good thing.

  • hot singer

  • que hijos de puta pedazo de banda de rock and rolle, asi da gusto escuchar musica

  • However in the liner notes of Sonic Temple (1989), Ian Astbury revealed he hated his performance for he was going through deep turmoil: he was sick of celebrity and his father was dying...

  • lol Astbury had too much hair.

  • @JoeSidhu No way! Ian had Perfect hair :)

He's growing it back now too :)

  • Well alright! WOOO! Love The Cult!

  • Love The Cult, just horrific they (MTV) would not allow the rest of the band to do their thing in the true live fashion, but it's typical MTV drivel anyway, whether it was 1989 or 2010. More than obvious Billy isn't playing and neither is Jamie, I don't think Matt is either.

  • Bad Ass Song, Hot singer w/ great stage presence and a guitar player underrated.

    CFFC♥

  • Nice vid, but it's not live. Nice lip sync job.

  • He is singing live, if you can't tell that you are pretty dumb. Read the description its says live vocal only as in singing live over a backing track which I think is correct.

  • Yeah-au! I totally agree! Love The Cult!

  • I LOVE THE CULT!!

  • @GrzegorzSatan Love em they wrote this song for me

  • Its only bands like the CULT and EARTH CULTURE that kick ass

  • Sweet Jesus what a band!

  • the cult was the 80's answer to the doors

  • what are you trying to say ?

that the Doors werent good ?

  • @kyannac21 no. Katacus is saying that the Doors were great and the Cult was the 1980's answer.

  • What a great band and what beautiful long hair Ian had.

  • the face of ian looks like the combination of morrison and tyler

  • Ah ah ah that's true!

  • @jo2jokiel ...and Gary Buesy. lol

  • too "american" for an english band

  • Where the f was I? They sound GOOD! Ian was in top form that night!

  • I love THE CULT, but why the playback? guitars, voices... they have more things recorded than fucking Britney!!!!

    dam!

  • damn this sounds like bad girlfriend by theory of a deadman

  • hmm.... i think you got that BACKWARDS

  • @papadakis217 that horrible band wishes.theory of a dead man aren't the same genre and the singers voice is harsh where as Ian is very high.

  • Ian has aged. Good song though.

  • We all do unfortunately.

  • @Vivien71

    Even Rolf Harris.

  • Even me.

  • My opinion. Sothing's doesn't look like real in this video. During the chorus singer's voice seems a Playback.

  • agreed.

  • i remember watching this live. also remember being disappointed that the music wasn't live and watching billy duffy outta sync with his own song. Still great band during a magical period in time. Saw 'em 6 months later in 1990 with Bonham and Tora Tora.

  • great cult song love it

  • yesss best cult song xP^^

  • Ian is God's gift to women! lol

  • Heard this live on the tarmac in a plane in Seoul, Korea. Awesome, and been looking for the live version ever since

  • juuust incredible. I recall watching this a spotty 15 year old and vowing on my hamster's life that I would play guitar at at least one tenth the level of Billy Duffy! This song and the performance was soooo exciting. Thanks for posting this, made my evening! BTW I had a les paul in my hand within 2 years, and was playing the lead breaks in this song (and in EDIE) like it was going out of fashion!

  • Ian Atsbury doesnt even need that little monitor! hes voice is so powerful that he doest even need a mike!!! he can sing louder than the P.A.!!! hehe

    :P
