I saw them live around this time in '89, Sonic Temple tour. His voice was the same. Shot. Here he's singing to a tape of the band. He's the only one live. I really liked this band until I saw them live.
though this performance had most of the instrumentals dubbed in, you can still clearly see that this band...in its prime..just drove people wild. hell, one look at the audience going wild would tell ya that.
Am I the only person on earth who thinx Ian Astbury and Pete Burns of Dead Or Alive sound muuuuch alike? I'd like 2 hear them cover eachothers song... killer fn baritones
Remember recording this from TV to VHS before internet and before Youtube. Ah, the 80's. Awesome music and vocals, and when the singer looks like "that" it's just a bonus! Hot rock goth God. Ian's still great even today. Keep rockin us!
5-14-2011. Ain't it fine. Ian Astbury is 49. Happy Birthday, Ian. I'll be joining you in July (at 49, that is). BTW, I saw you all in February 1990 at the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia. Dangerous Toys and Bonham opened. Remember? Many happy returns today.
@marchello351 Yeah, unfortunately not a choice of the band, most likely. MTV probably had to save time and move the show along, so they avoided live setups for a lot of the bands that night. Sucks. I'd be embarrassed as hell knowingly faking my own guitar or drum work. Astbury isn't singing during part of the chorus, either.
if you want to see first hand the power of this band and this song, look at the first 5 rows of people at this music awards event. they're literally going out of their minds. that folks...is rock!
When you have corporate mtv telling you what to do etc...yeah mtv was good...the bands did live or pre recorded vocals and played with a backing track..if you saw the cult live they were either great.. terrible or awesome on the night ..thats rockin roll its real... beacause there's o much monet acts use backing tracks to make the concert reasonable... pay your money get the value ( not)....the real music is still hear just look for it...Byron bay blues festival is one!!!
Not trolling here, but did this guy really sing on the released version? I have yet to see a live performance where he does the vocals worth a flyin' hoot. This one is better than the other vids posted here, but it still falls far short.
Matt Sorum crushes on drums. Is there anyone who hasn't played drums with The Cult? Those guys go through drummers like they are going out of style. Spinal Tap has nothing on those guys.
@JakeMansonNYC Yup- MTV was great in the 80's & up to the mid 90's. I wont even watch it now. I can't stand this BS so called "music" that's out now.
It's a bunch of C-Rap, Hip-Slop & tards like Gaga & Bieber....MTV SUCKS! The music of today sucks! Hardly any good bands...The only good ones are the older 80's & 90's bands that are touring! :)
This is one of those PERFECT heavy songs. I'll never forget a particular day back in 89' parked in the driveway..turned off the motor and cranked the stereo as loud as it would go...and nearly knocked myself out hitting my head on the steering wheel going absolutely ape-shit to this song. I would put this up against ANYTHING! Metallica, AC/DC, Black Sabbath...you name it and Fire Woman is right up there with the very best.
@poopapie Ian wig? Are you crazy! I've met Ian and he's got hair like an Indian God or warrior! He use to iron his hair back then I've heard him say. He's still got all this hair. It's incredible. What sux is he's singing live here and the band is just faking it.
great band. I hear both lead and rhythm guitars, but only see the lead and bass.....is this a click track? if so its well done. they tended not to take a second guitar on the road, which made their sound very hollow and not as full as the studio versions of their songs.
What is where is the fire woman vidieo where ian's laying on the side of the stage kicking like a mad man during the outro of this song, he's got a big hole in the knee of his leathers, Ive seen it once. anybody know?
dude... i am a dude and I envy his hair. I bet lots of girls do too... He reminded pete from type o.... awesome song (with or without cool hair)!!! I will tell you truthfully!!!!
Lady Gaga and all the pop stuffs are fag music. This is a real legend of rock, not like Justin Bieber... These guys are awesome. Make the difference: FAG VS LEGENDS and they prefer fags... People actually listen to bad stupid music and they have possibility to listen to The Cult. At least these one have some talents. The Cult for ever!
However in the liner notes of Sonic Temple (1989), Ian Astbury revealed he hated his performance for he was going through deep turmoil: he was sick of celebrity and his father was dying...
