He estado viendo versiones de la canción del principio y la del final y todas están bien menos esta, la verdad, no me gusta, eso de que se vea a los personajes hablando y se oiga la voz de la chica japonesa cantando... no mola.

Not a patch on the theme tune for the English dub but all hail Nippon animation for bringing us this wondrous series and also the classic Dogtanian - a happy youth for me.

It seems, as far i can tell, that every animated serie showed in Europe - japan tends to remake intro & thememusic aswell. So it sounds and shows totally weird from european eyes...

Lo mas raro es que Willy Fogg en España se emitiese en 1983 o 1984 y en Japon en 1987. Seguramente (deduzco) que en un principio no se pudo emitir en Japon, y por eso el estudio de animacion no hizo un opening diferente que "pegase" con la canción.

Y si, continúo por aquí... aunque hace tiempo que no subo videos ;)

No creas. Estoy buscando temas de series de dibujos que veiamos en los 80s en su version japonesa y rara es la que se parece en algo al tema que teniamos en España. A mi me gustan mas las españolas.

So, to my knowledge, Willy Fog was developed in Spain and animated in Japan. But my conception was that Japan did this first, then sold the right to Spain.

No. It was a Spanish idea and Nippon Animation agreed to provide the animation for the show. The same thing with Dogtanian.

This is true, but Nippon Animation also held a level of control on the series as well. As a result, they had some control over the content and dialogue. The cut for the Spanish and Japanese version are also slightly different. They employ completely different sound effects and music. "Sky Way" was used in the original VHD release, which we still cannot pinpoint when this came out. It could've came out the same time as the original spanish release...

Nippon Animation had some control over the making of the series, however I believe they needed to gain permission from local Japanese TV stations for them to be aired. They may have handled video releases though, but I'm uncertain. At the start of the sequence by the logo, you will see 1987 written below it, indicating that the show may not have been released in Japan until that year for reasons unkown, a similar thing happend with Transformers: The Movie.

Actually, the VHD release was before 1987, just we do not know when this was, exactly. The odd thing is the VHD release employed a different voice cast. Anything else is unknown. Usually this version is referred to as the "Video Version". Ulysse 31 had a similar incident, where the video and tv versions employed a different voice cast as well in Japan.

That does not make sense. If it went to other countries, it would have been dubbed in their language. This was dubbed into several different languages, especially in Europe where the show (like Dogtanian) gained a cult following.

Ok, doing a little bit more digging, there's a second title for this, atleast in Japan region. Apparently there was an attempt to release this directly to video in the VHD format. (Check Wiki on this, I'm not entirely familiar with what this is..) The title it was released under was Doubutsu hachijuu nichikan Sekai Isshuu. Not quite sure how many episodes were released under this format, but they had a different voice cast then the TV version.

The Japanese title is mention above. It was aired in Japan, not not until 1987 for some reason, while it was made for Spain orginally in 1983. Acording to Wikipedia, they did remove a few episodes, but I'm not sure if it was top make a TV special out of these episodes, or the Japanese just chose not to air them?

No, it was because Nippon Animation could only secure a certain number of weeks for the show to air. Which is why it was removed. (Dogtanian had this issue as well, 24 out of the 26 were initially broadcasted. The later 2 were eventually broadcasted when the show reran.)

I see. Though it sounds weird that they could only get 24 out of 26 of the episodes to air. They would certanly had ran into a few continuity problems.

They have to pay the station to broadcast the series, unless they are directly involved. They secure a certain number of weeks on a timeslot and broadcast from there. Meaning, they have a couple choises, if they only secured so many timeslots: Either remove episode(s) out of rotation, or stop at the last possible episode, and either release it later when they secure a new timeslot or they release it directly to video. In some cases, they're never released. (Willy Fog for instance.)

I see and that actually does back up my theory that Nippon Animation needed permission from TV stations to air their programming as they are only an animation studio, if it was owned by a larger company, then perhaps it would have been them who immedeatily aquires the distribution rights. Thanks.

Actually, from my understanding, unlike WanWan Sanjushi Dogtarian, Nippon Animation had issues getting this show on the air in Japan. Even after they managed to get it on air, they had to remove 4 episodes from broadcast in order to play the series completely. Something similar happened with WWSD, but the two episodes removed initially were rebroadcasted on a different network. I'm not quite sure if Willy Fog had the luxery here...

Tomy for western markets, anyway Takara was exclusive to Japan. Back to Willy Fog those lucky Spanish people ended up getting a soundtrack released in 1984 on all three major formats (LP, CD and casette), so the show was popular over there, well you don't have to be a genius to work that one out. It's too bad western soundtracks aren't given the type of respect they had in Japan and Europe.

True, though Transformers was a US/Japan Co-idea by Takara and Tomy. But the carton storyboards and story etc. were done in the States, while the actual animation process was done in Japan.

I honestly like the song, but it doesn't really match up for the most part because of how it was animated. I really wonder why Nippon Animation went with the intro in this fashion anyways. Still, it's interesting to see how Japan's version of the Opening is for this Co-production.

Curious, do you by chance have the Japanese ending to Willy Fog? I'd like to see how that is.

Teinko, it was orginally animated so it can be dubbed in Spanish, since BRB Internacional who came up with the Willy Fog idea was a Spanish company. The same thing with Dogtanian.

Esto... Volvere a repetir lo que aparece en la explicacion del video... Es una co-produccion española-japonesa... Entre la BRB international y la Nippon Animation. Eso quiere decir que nada de que "los japoneses cogieron estos dibujos". Y Dartacan y Ruy el pequeño cid tambien fueron co-producciones entre las mismas compañias.
