@MOHAN3469 If you have ever been in the situation to take one of those catches, it is extremely difficult to determine if the ball carried or was taken on the half volley. I spent a lot of time fielding in 1st and 2nd slip and i would sometimes have to ask my wicketkeeper if the ball had carried. It is really hard to tell at full speed.
In India and Sri Lanka we are taught to call other teams cheats when we can't win or match their skill. Please don't be angry with us most of us were only born with 1 ball and a very short weener.

cmon man i dont blame symonds here at all.....it was a reflex catch .....and he didnt know that he havnt taken the catch cleanly......and if there was a doubt it should have been the batsman who should have asked the umpire that he wanted another look on that catch ,instead he didnt mind it at all......so calling symonds a cheat is a bit too harsh.And im an indian.

@MOHAN3469 If you have ever been in the situation to take one of those catches, it is extremely difficult to determine if the ball carried or was taken on the half volley. I spent a lot of time fielding in 1st and 2nd slip and i would sometimes have to ask my wicketkeeper if the ball had carried. It is really hard to tell at full speed.

You can only use control as an arguement if (1) he has control of the ball...and (2) the fielder is in control over his own movement...you cant use the ground to control the ball!! lol ...like symonds has clearly done...see 7 and 11 seconds...its physically impossible to leave the ground and catch that without the ball touching the ground he is no longer 'in control'

In your previous comment you said that 'controlling the ball' has nothing to do with it. i was just saying that controlling the ball does have something to do with it. Symonds clearly has 'control' of the ball before the ball touches the ground, the ball sticks in his hand as he is falling to the ground, therefore, as per the rule I outlined earlier, it can be ruled as a fair catch. And it was.

@rudeboydave i do actually watch cricket mate, my dad played for australia, yes they do look for the hands going under the ball. but in this case symonds clearly had the ball sticking in his hand before it touched the ground. you may as well say that there never is a fair catch as they always throw the ball up after taking the catch, as you say having no control over the ball. besides australia smashed the fuck out of sri lanka that day, honestly i think you a little jealous.
