  • This truly is a good idea and I'm glad more people are finding ways to do stuff like this involving recycling.

  • The concept is a good one. However, he is the type of person I would hate to be sat next to at a dinner party. So, what do you do? Oh, I collect cans...

  • @malgrimace So we're not having dinner?

  • @TrashAmps No, sorry buddy :)

  • omg i want one :D

  • This is honestly so cool. Why don't you do Red Bull cans? (I know some of them are small, but the 20OZ Can is the same size as a monster can)

  • Wow. That's awesome. Though the presentation seemed kind of "Canned!" HA! Get it!?

Awful joke. But yeah. I love the idea! I'd love to get a few of these for myself and my friends!

I love it! Keep it up!

  • so are the cans even necessary it looks like you are just decorating the speaker with cans and box's and they have nothing to do with the sound it's like placing an Xbox in a cardboard box and then saying you made the cardboard an Xbox it's silly

  • @nnnjc1 While the cans may offer some protection; I believe they are mainly for decoration, much like the white plastic and xbox logos are on the outside of the system. Plus if you're into the whole going green scam you can somehow feel better about yourself for taking a can out of the garbage and using it i guess.

  • @Jakearoo14 The can definitely serves a cosmetic purpose, you are correct. The thing people have misunderstood is that the Trash "skins" are in fact necessary to create a sealed speaker cavity. Significant loss in bass response and overall performance is sacrificed when using the Trash Amp INSERT solo. Do you have any suggestions for improving Trash Amps?

  • nice can. what's the name of the song?

  • @robertxtm The song is "The Reason" by Hoobastank

  • 3:19 "Then you can do some jazzy stuff" - I'm not sure John Mayer's St. Patrick's Day is jazzy but cool product nevertheless aha

  • @IRyzoI You must be a far superior guitar player than me! I'd love to have some real experts do a quick video with the Trash Amp. What do you think?

  • Nice, you are Eco Friendly and I like it....

  • hey do you think you can make lights for that same adaptor? cause that'd be kind of awesome to have spots or stage lights that are that portable.

  • @adam14000 This is a great idea, thanks for sharing. The whole concept of Trash Amps is that you can make anything out of anything, so lights could totally be put into different Trash Items. The main hurdle would be power, as bright lights usually require lots of power. You could make something that plugs into the wall. Let me know if you create something like this! Reuse It For Music!

  • @TrashAmps using reflectors to focus a group of LEDs would probably work. My main problem is that i just have the concept and no money or skills to make it.

  • hopefully this also works with GOOD music

  • ive used a stack of toilet paper rolls as an amp for my phone speaker. Stacked three ontop of it worked great. XD

  • I got one at the maker faire yesterday. There was only thing I was wondering. How do you cut the cans? Can I cut my own? Thanks.

  • @3DpI Hey, thanks for writing! The can cutting process is a trade secret right now. I'm working on a patent for my method, then I plan to release it to the public. This method has taken me about 2 years to develop, cutting a can perfectly is really a challenge!

It is possible to cut your own cans with scissors, but it's hard to get a straight cut. Also, we usually don't advise people to cut their own cans because it's unsafe - don't want people to get cut. Which town are you from?

  • @TrashAmps So you're not really promoting recycling since people can't really use their own cans, just the ones they have to buy from you.

  • @JustAnotherJake

Hi there, For liability reasons, "we do not currently recommend" that customers cut their own cans. However, a can is easily cut with a pair of scissors -- there's no reason people cannot cut their own cans. In addition, it is extremely time consuming for me to find all of the cans people request, as well as to clean and cut every single can. In the future, I'd like to move toward people cutting their own cans - we're definitely in agreement on that.

  • @JustAnotherJake

On a higher level, the concept of Trash Amps - turning trash into portable speakers - gets people thinking before they throw away. I aim to encourage people to think of things we currently throw away that could be reused. So Trash Amps are simply a memorable, cool example of reuse.

Thanks for writing, and Rock Out

  • @TrashAmps It seems to me that the technology would be very similar to that of the side can openers. The old models used to cut the inside lip of the cans, until they invented one that cuts the outside edge. I would imagine that if you could modify a side can opener to have the cutting edge lowered to the desired height that you would have your huckleberry, no?

  • Adam, this is rad. I was sent a link to your site a while back by a family member who thought it was a cool idea. I had no clue it was your creation at the time! Best of luck buddy!

  • I got this for Christmas. Absolutely awesome idea.
