Dumbass it's from wires getting heated causing the current soldering work to be ruined, the trick is to wrap it around the towel for it to basically "solder " back together. HALO NERD KNOWS NOTHING!

@iscreamscene How does it help? It works the same way the oven trick works on video cards. Get the machine hot enough that the solder on the loose chip melts. Its basically re-soldering itself.

The towel trick keeps your xbox good for about a week and a half then it will start to get the ring and you need to do the towel trick again but every time you do it the time (in days) goes down untill you get it fixed.

i actually did this not even an hour ago. and it worked for me. after 20min the system auto turned off and gave 2 rings instead of 3. let it sit for an hour. turned it back on, and bam worked like a charm.

@iscreamscene The Red Ring Of Death can come from multiple reasons, and I'm positive that it has never came from a "loose chip". Most RROD's come from the lack of solder on the wiring, so by wrapping the Xbox in towels you begin to heat the internals and melt the solder back onto the wiring properly, letting the console start up normally.

i used mine a tad diff, all i did was wrap in towel, then wrap it in blanket, make sure it is off, no plugs or any thing in it. just let it sit for about 20 to 30 min and your good

the towel trick works like this: since the xbox can get extremely hot when left on for quite a while, some of the soldery or thin metal parts will melt, and short circuit the xbox. all the towel trick does is melt the metal parts again so they HOPEFULLY go back into their places. however, the towel trick is very risky. it could melt the wrong metal parts and screw up your xbox furthermore or your xbox could catch the towel on fire and burn your house down. i do not recommend toweling at all.

after I got red rings of death I just got an intercooler since the rings are usually caused by the xbox 360 overheating. after I got the intercooler it not only got rid of the rings but made my xbox work faster.

ok. leave in all your cables. 1. To overheat it more quickly put something in the back vent to block the fans, Im used allen wrenches since theyre curved on the ends and wont fall inside. 2 Wrap a towel around the xbox or at least securely cover the vent and turn it on. 3. Go do something else for 5-10 minutes. It should overheat in that amount of time. 4. Turn off the console and unplug all cables. 5. Wait a minute, plug them back in and turn it on. If it didnt work try it again. Cheers!
