Good god, that was awesome.

I have a question; does the shield only protect from the front or can bullets hit the back and not kill you? I know in the old Gradius on the NES that was the case, but not in the newer games.

Yes you will die if hit from behind or below/ above... I got lucky a few times on some of these videos...
